  1. Well - one is Royal specific and the other is more of a general Princess question. 1. Is the running/walking track actually "run-able"? meaning, is it large enough for a strenuous early run or are there too many turns and is it too narrow? 2. Will the International Café fill a travel mug when making a late' or will I need to transfer it from the paper cup?

    Thanks!

I can't answer question #2, but my brother ran 5 miles every day on the Royal track (7 laps equal a mile). The runners lane is actually wider than the walkers lane (makes no sense to me since runners are frequently solitary and walkers frequently are couples). His only complaints were that during the day the runners lane would have walkers on it and frequently folks were not walking/running in the designated direction (counter clockwise). After the first day he avoided those issues by running at daybreak when he frequently had the track to himself. As an added bonus, the sunrises were gorgeous.

  2. There are more things to do with the new schedule. We like it for the nightly variety.:D

We do too. We've been on 4 cruises since the change (Sapphire, Coral, Caribbean and Royal). We usually go to the elite/suite/platinum lounge for a drink and then the early show followed by dinner and whatever we feel like the rest of the evening. Maybe our attention spans are getting shorter in our old age:D but the shorter shows work well for us.

  3. We would like to eat at Alfredos around 6:30 on first night of cruise. Does this venue take reservations? (for 2) Also is there a long wait to eat there at that time on first night of carribean Royal cruise?

Alfredos is casual - and very tasty - dining. They don't take reservations. I would think you won't have any problems on the first night since many folks won't even know about it yet. In December we ate there around that time and had no wait at all. Enjoy!

  4. It amuses me to see people get all angsty about toilet doors, forgetting that non-hand-washers have probably come into contact with every other door on the ship.

I always wonder if they are so 'angsty' working in an office (common restrooms, elevators, break rooms, etc.) or shopping (elevators, escalators, shopping carts, etc.) or traveling (hotel rooms, airport/airplane restrooms, etc.). The preoccupation leads me to wonder how some ever leave home!

  5. While you can make arrangements with your tour provider in advance, please remember that arrival and departure times can change in the course of the cruise. It happened with at least 3 ports on our British Isles cruise last summer. Most tour providers stay on top of the arrival changes but make sure you notify your driver when you board if a change was made to the departure schedule.

  6. Question for those in the know regarding elite tendering benefits.

Is the benefit the same when your returning to the ship as far as the line - or do you just need to wait in line like everybody else?

Wait in line - no distinction is made on the return trip.

  7. As one person earlier mentioned, suicide is a selfish action. I believe it is often used as a way to punish others (in this case, we heard from his co-workers that the crew member's wife was the problem). As the father of a small child, he had to be pretty angry and thoughtless to leave the child fatherless. It is very sad.

Should you or someone near and dear to you suffer with severe depression you might change your harsh opinions - not that I would wish that on anyone. The rest of your post was very considerate but I think you have no basis to pass judgement on the mindset ('selfish', 'thoughtless') of the crew member.

  8. Check these recent threads about the new shampoo/comditioner combination. We had it on our Royal Princess cruise. In a full suite it was in small plastic bottles but I think it is the same product in the dispensers in other cabins. I hated it -- my hair was like a birds nest that was next to impossible to get a comb or brush through. Luckily my husband had brought a small bottle of conditioner - even though he doesn't have much hair to use it on :p. I commandeered it for the duration of the cruise. Next month I'll be sure to bring my own shampoo and conditioner.

  9. We are staying at the Gallery One and see that the Trolley is an option to use. Does it go to the beach and is it a long time between them coming around again?

Also want to just ride it to see the sites.....

Anyone have any info that has used it?

    Thank you

While waiting for folks with specific experience to answer your questions :D, you can check out their web site: http://www.suntrolley.com

  10. The more crowded it is, the more people who can't follow simple directions (staying in lane with walkers on the inside and everyone going counter-clockwise). My brother - who ran at least 5 miles a day - quickly discovered that daybreak was the best time to run after trying out the track on embarkation afternoon. At daybreak he only had to share the track with one or two (if any) other people and sunrises were gorgeous. That worked for him because that's when he normally runs but for those of us who want to sleep late, that option doesn't work. I walked it a couple of afternoons and ran into (so to speak :D) the folks who couldn't follow directions.

If I was (re-)designing the track I would make the walker lane wider than the runner lane since there are frequently couples walking together while running is more solitary. I'd also make the walker lap on the outside so they don't need to cross the runners. But no one asked me!

Added - just looked at Dave's pictures -- everyone headed in the right direction but you'll notice the walkers are on both lanes...

  11. We were on the Royal Princess Dec 8th cruise and my DB - who at the age of 51 still hasn't realized that his older sister is always right :D - went to the MDR one night in shorts (his wife had warned him too). The hostess very politely sent him back to his room to change. His wife and I were amused :). They didn't join us in Sabatinis or the Crown Grill but ate at Alfredos or the Horizon Court on the remaining evenings to accommodate his aversion to long pants. We joined them a couple of evenings and the food and atmosphere were lovely at both - and we usually avoid the HC at all costs but not on the Royal!

  12. My AC has been off for three days.

There are people sitting out at the pool. I think they are from up north.:D

Right now there are people swimming in the ocean in Pompano Beach (just north of Fort Lauderdale) - the locals call them 'Canadians'. :) Our pool has women in bikinis sunbathing - must have warmed up some since 2 hours ago they were also wearing hoodies!

  13. Is the Minisuite really that much better than the balcony, as far as money goes?

We like the extra space and bathtub in the mini suite. If you decide to go with a mini suite on the Coral, I recommend picking a cabin on Dolphin deck in the 7XX series. That is the aft of the ship so it is quiet and there is a little known aft public deck that you will have mostly to yourself. But the absolute best thing about those cabins is that the balcony is fully covered which you'll appreciate if it is rainy.

  14. I am surprised and disappointed. I would avoid the Ruby in Alaska. The space ratio is just awful and one may not feel it in the Caribbean but when on the Crown (Ruby's sister), it was very crowded in Canada NE. There is another deck of passengers compared to the Grand, Golden, Diamond. So imagine the Diamond Princess and add 500 more passengers with really no additional space on the ship for more people and there is no covered pool.

Pick the Coral Princess! The Coral Princess has a great space ratio, never feels crowded, has a covered pool. It has a different design compared to the Diamond. It is more long and narrow. There are just 2 dining rooms in the front of the ship. The Coral and Island ship are some of the highest rated ships for Princess passengers.

There is no decision for me, the Coral Princess is the better ship in a cooler climate and is a better ship IMO.

Absolutely agree - have done Alaska on the Coral twice.
