  1. From FAQ yourcubacruise

If I was born in Cuba and am a citizen of another country can I travel with Cuba Cruise?

At this time the Cuban authorities will not permit any person of Cuban citizenship, regardless of dual nationality or country of residence, to embark or disembark at any Cuban port.

  2. One last question - are reservations required for flights?? or can I just give off the ship, grab a taxi, and head to the airport? Worried about missing a flight time if we have tender issues. Thanks!

Make a reservation!!!! Tropic has a great web site you can book on....No guarantee of a plane without a reservation.

  3. You don't say which ship you are on or from which US port you are sailing from. That would handle the time question. Belize does not observe daylight savings time. It's 2 hours behind current US Eastern DST and 1 hour behind current Central DST. I believe Maya Air flies out of the Belize Municipal airport which is closer to the cruise port/tender pier but I think it makes a brief layover at Belize International. Taxi to either. On landing probably the golf cart is the best option as any vehicle larger would probably not be allowed. You can walk the entire island in a half hour.

I believe Wade the Gringo on these boards works for or worked for Maya Air so he's very familiar with the set up to Caye Caulker and hopefully will chime in with succinct details.

Never heard of Maya....Just Kidding, I work for TROPIC AIR....LOL

  4. Great info blue_water! So looking at the schedule they have a 4:20 arrival at Belize int and a 4:30 arrival at Municipal. Our Ship (JADE) departs Belize at 6:00pm. Which airport is closer to the port and would this scenario allow us plenty of time to make the last tender? (not sure what time the last tender would normally be) Or would this be cutting it too close?... I don't want to take any unnecessary risk on missing the last tender!

Belize muni is the one you want. The intnl is just that, security lines customs and twice the price

  5. I don't suppose I'll be able to find Mackeson Milk Stout (from Trinidad) in Belize, will I? I've only had it once, and I really liked it.

you are in luck, It is sold in some stores in Belize. not a lot of bars serve it though.

  6. We spent the day on Isla Mujeres several years ago. Rented a golf cart and had a blast. This will be our 4th trip to Belize. First time we walked into town, then did horse and carriage around town. Last 2 times stayed in port. Like to try Caye Caulker if it is like Isla. Concern is there and back on time.

Caye Caulker is tiny. Most walk around the Village. Some will rent bikes. You can rent a golf Cart, but I think that would be a waste.

San Pedro on the other hand, a golf cart would be great for exploring.

  7. I have sailed my last two cruises on Pullmantur. We did the Caribbean. I think the transatlantic are repositioning cruises. so they sell what they can to fill the ship. The ships were ok. No balconies, Older ships from Royal Caribbean. We found most staff spoke English. but most passengers did not. The food was defiantly not the class of the main cruise lines. Carnival even had better food. We had the all inclusive drinks. Limited selection but was fine.

    Would sail with them again.

  8. If I may I add to Skai's comments, the area directly around the tourism village is called Fort George and it is the site of many foreign embassies, including the US, the national museum (further up)and some higher end hotels where many US celebrities stay when visiting Belize. Not that you can either get into these places or see celebrities. But as Skai mentioned not a lot to attract tourists.

You can walk up a short distance along the tender pier side of the street and cross over the swing bridge into downtown Belize City and still hugging the shore line wander down to the old colonial Governor's Mansion, now a cultural museum, and the historic Anglican Church across from it. You can see the small cannons and an old Yacht in the yard from the tender as you approach the tender pier. There is a decent restaurant, Bird's Isle, closer to the swing bridge.

If you turn right out of the tender pier area and walk along the shore line you'll come to the Baron Bliss lighthouse and a nice promenade along the shore and the Smokey Mermaid Restaurant in the Great House, a local inn. But not much else, in the near vicinity. Across from the tender pier is a small crafts/ flea market with local goods at prices much cheaper than inside the tender pier area, and vendors will barter a bit.

FYI...The US Embassy has moved to The capital of Belize, Belmopan.

  9. I hope all of you that buy prescription drugs while on a cruise without a valid prescription realize that bringing them back into the US is a felony and if caught you face prison time.

    I am a regular user of Ibuprofen 800, C I a l s and metformin all of these I buy without a prescription.

I am a US citizen living in Belize. Would you recommend I visit a doctor in Belize for a prescription before my next trip to the states so I don't get into trouble?

  10. Always put itinerary in bag. I have worked for airlines for years in the states and a here in the Caribbean. If your bag is misplaced/ mislabeled. the tag may have come off. There is more than on "small medium roller bag with beach clothes in it. Just your home address is not good. You don't want it sent there while you are still on vacation. A full itinerary will assist in reuniting your bag with you.

  11. For the most part yes. The only exception is during bad weather. They might not run on schedule for safety. Easter week is another big week. Also Belize elections, a lot of people move on the water taxi's. We just had one, so not for another 3 years.

Remember there are two water taxis and two airlines if you get into trouble.

  12. I am not sure about the pharmacies in Belize city. Crewsweeper sounds right.

I live in San Pedro. Most drugs can be purchased without a script. No narcatics.

Yes they are much cheaper than in the States. Some cheaper than what my co-pay used to be.

I have been taking "Belize" drugs for seven years. All work as they are intended.

  13. For the most part Belikin is a monopoly. I travel a lot around Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. In my opinion it is towards the top of my favorite list. Bowin and Bowin sells Belikin, Belikin Premium, Light house, Stout and they also produce Guinness stout.

You can also find Beers from Trinidad, Jamaica Belikin still may fav.

  14. We almost stayed on the ship during our first visit last year. After some last minute research on this site, we decided to hop on a water taxi to Caye Caulker. We are SO glad we did! My wife laughs at me when I tell our friends, but I swear I almost shed a tear as the boat approached that place. The contrast between the deep blue water along with the turquoise water, white sand, green trees and blue skies was just absolutely amazing. Breathtaking for sure. Plus we had a blast on the island during our short visit. We liked it so much we are planning to return in January when in port on the Dawn. As far as the port goes, I thought it was fun enough for passing through. We don't spend much time in the actual port at any of our stops. But there were enough places to shop or grab a drink on the way to and from for our needs.

Did that seven years ago and haven't left:):):)

  15. Valdemar Andrade - Director, Destination Planning & Cruise, BTB

"Yes. As far as the last conversation I had with the director of port operations Mr. Colin Murphy from NCL, yes. We are still on target for February of 2016. I think all the aspects on the island are on target. We are also working with the tour operation side of it. We are now having the detailed discussions as to what kind of tours they will be having there and being able to get those on target as well. So from our side and in terms of the cruise calls we have secured from that port, yes, everything is set for February 2016."
