  1. Any store will take US and give change in Belize$. with the exception of Tourist Village. Some shops there must give back US. There may be an A.T.M. in tourist Village that dispenses $20s and $50s BZ. If you take a walk into the city, across the swing bridge there are two banks. Scotia bank and Atlantic Bank. The rate at the banks is not 2 to 1. It is 1.00 US to about 1.90 BZ.

  2. "Nothing going on over there, the legal issue (CAUTION) scared the **** out of everyone!

The Split have no customers, no traffic, just a few people on the seawall.

Lazy Lizard cannot open until new agreement or he goes to court and also getting new liquors license,

all work of demolishing main building is stopping !!!!!!!

transmission of information is going as well as it can, discouraged or given second thought to everyone involved!"

    The SAGA continue...

  3. I cant see anyone running out of beer. They may run low on cold. You want warm to take back. Should not be a problem. The going rate for one beer at a regular shop is $3 bz. In a bar $5bz is the norm. I don't know if they get more in the T. V.

  4. Hey Wade, Thanks for the input! If you were us and only visiting for one day, what would your recommendation be? Caves, Shark Alley, River tour? We have seen caves, snorkeled/scuba, zip-lined around the world, etc. so none really hold more appeal than the others. We would like an introduction to Belize that will whet our appetite to come back for more. Your thoughts?

I found Belize on a Carnival Valor sailing. I took a water taxi to Caye Caulker for the day. Fell in love, packed up and spent a week there. Now I have been in Belize, on Ambergris Caye for six years.

I have done Lamini, Nice boat ride up the river. Sharks and rays. I think if you want to see Belize, Visit Caye Caulker or San Pedro. I also love Placencia, but the only way to reach there is a flight and the timing still is bad.

  5. We sailed the Pullmantur Horizon in 2011. Pullmantur is the Spanish cruise line. We are booking with them again. We did a 7 night that sailed from Mexico. The ship was smaller but in great shape. The staff was international and most spoke English. The clientele was mostly from Spain or Mexico .I found the food not the same as main cruise line food. It was very acceptable. Room service was not included in the all inclusive.

They have transferred the ship. I would love to try the French version but as stated the airfare is high.

  6. Has anyone done the Celebrity excursion Sharks, Rays and Island Getaway?

Really want to do this but not willing to pay the price for just swimming with rays, I want to experience the sharks.:) Anyone with experience?

    Thanks,

    Cruiser77

Don't know about the excursion details. I live here in Belize. I have been to "Shark Ray ally " on a few trips. The sharks and rays are all in close proximity to each other. In most cases they will all hear the boat and be there when they hear the boats motor.

  7. Just found this cruise.

    Itinerary

    Yucatán (Puerto Progreso)

    At sea

    George Town (Grand Cayman)

    At sea

    Belize City

    Roatan (Honduras)

    Cozumel

    Yucatan (Mexico)

We live in Belize, This is an easy cruise to get to without flying into the states. We did almost the same one in 2011. loved it. cant beat the all inclusive!!

  8. Does anyone have a current link to the water taxi service? When you click on the one for Cay Caulker from this thread, it shows that the website has been closed due to management's decision.

I also read in another thread that the water taxis have consolidated.

Has anyone been recently or have updated information?

    i use this taxi.....http://sanpedrowatertaxi.com/

  9. We are doing a western Caribbean cruise this summer and was wondering if there is a good excursion in Belize to play with dolphins? I'm having trouble finding any. Any advice is appreciated...thanks!

None in Belize. Lots of Rays and sharks. If you are lucky you might see a turtle or two while snorkeling. I was on a boat last week and we had a pod of 4-5 dolphins racing the boat for about 15 minutes.

  10. I've been looking at the Jungle River Cruise excursion. Here is the description-

Board a river boat for a guided tour of the nearby Old Belize River. On this scenic waterway you will see crocodiles, howler monkeys, iguanas, and lots of birds. Lush tropical foliage lines this waterway. You will disembark at Burrell Boom, a community which was once a logging camp, for shopping, refreshments and a locally prepared lunch. After which you board the boat for journey back to Belize City. The tour concludes at the Belize Tourism Village/dock for transfer to the ship.

I've tried Googling ''Burrell Boom'' with no luck. What can anyone tell me about this area? Would this be a good place to try local food? If I were to place museums and places of high culture on one end of a continuum, and great sources of cheap plastic souvenirs on the other, where would this area land? Any information would be appreciated.

add belizetothe search."burrell boom belize" lots ofi nfo.

  11. We have been to Belize 4 times, and if we had a choice we'd rather spend 2 days in Roatan or Cozumel than to go back to Belize. The whole tendering thing is a pain in the butt, plus to do anything on the island is a long bus ride. Of course this is my opinion only.

If you take a bus to the islands it would be a short ride...Just kidding. Belize is a hard port. But it unlike any other in the world. so much to see on the mainland and the islands too. I found Belize on a cruise 7 years ago and went home and packed my bags and moved here.

Do find something that interests you and experience a taste of Belize.

  12. Anyone heard of this website? Anyone use them? Are they reliable? I am looking at taking the tour that flies you to Ambergris Caye to go snorkelling at Shark Ray Alley.

It looks like they are based in California. That would make refunds easy for you.

That would also say that their tours are done by a number of suppliers. I live in San Pedro and all of the local tour companies are very good. I work for one of the local airlines, probably the other one... Always the best option to fly.

  13. From Google Maps, it looks as though it's about a 10 minute walk from the water taxi stop to the split. Not sure how accurate that is.

Thats about right. 10 minutes if you take your time..... from the Water Taxi. Keep your right foot in the water and you will find it. You can also take a golf cart taxi if in a hurry for about $5.

  14. So are we the ONLY ones who had lunch with Wish Willy on Caye Caulker??? Oh, but you missed the most wonderful, one-of-a-kind experience. If you're going to Caye Caulker, research Wish Willy's and experience the home cooking over an outside grill! And Maurice, aka Wish Willy, is so interesting!!

I second that. We eat there every chance we get.

  15. Pirate - is there snorkeling from the beach in Caye Caulker? We were there for lunch on our last trip (Coral Breeze snorkel tour) but never explored beyond the restaurant. This time I'd like to relax there for the day...wondering about the snorkel situation. Thanks!

yes the best place is at the split. Food Beer and good swimming.

  16. So if I understand we can just take the water taxi to Caye Caulker and then hang out on the beach there? That is all I really want to do.

    yes you can.

Two water taxis that go there. Check both scheduels and use the second choice as a back up.

once you get of the boat a golf cart taxi can take you to the split for cold beer by the bucket for $10us.
