  1. If you can save it to your Apple wallet, the numbers just show under the bar code, so no need to scan. Otherwise you probably need an app to scan this type of bar code.
  2. Yes, we would also be fine in a std, just happy to not be. We have never done the gty before (but I know how it works). We are testing out the “book cheap a few weeks out” concept now that we are empty nesters with no school schedules to work around. We have bid many times, between Royal and NCL, so very familiar with those programs.
  3. Not really — they have been processing bids at about 3 weeks out, so if I don’t have my bids in place then I could miss out on an OV category, which we would like even more than the virtual. What we don’t want, is to pay for a bid on a virtual when we seem to already be assigned to one - or to lose the virtual AND not get any of our other bids accepted.
  4. We kept our bid for two different OV categories — but will be perfectly happy in the virtual if the other bids aren’t accepted. It was more of an issue of preferring the virtual vs a standard interior. The std has very little space between the corner of the bed and the couch and/or cabinet on the other side. Very easy to bang ones knee in the middle of the night heading to the head. The virtual cabin doesn’t have a couch, just a chair, which opens up the space on that side of the bed. Since my husband has a bad knee, we prefer that little bit of extra space.
  5. We decided to cancel the bid, and go with the prevailing opinion that we can reasonably expect that we already have that category.
  6. If you actually get a set sail pass, you can use a barcode scanner app to read the barcode. The last four numbers that come up are your tentative cabin number
  7. It’s a $10 bid, so not super worried about it. The deck number has already been removed from the set sail pass — now says “reprint” instead of 10. But the one I put in my wallet, shows the deck number. I guess i just don’t fully trust their IT dept at the moment
  8. Thanks for sharing your opinion. While you were sharing it, I was creating a thread for opinions, lol. I agree with you, but will hold off a bit just cuz now I’m curious what the broader consensus is
  9. Looking to see if anyone has any experience with this. Today we finally got our Set Sail Pass for a short 3 night on Navigator end of the month. Our app shows us on deck 10 and a muster station. The barcode trick shows a cabin number for a virtual balcony, which we have a Royal Bid for — but they do not seem to have processed the bids. I have no charge pending, all of my bids show as “submitted” but I’m also aware that we are not officially assigned this cabin yet. Should I cancel the bid? I don’t want to pay to be in a category we seem to already have. But I prefer this category over the other interior options.
  10. Ours has also showed up!! Very happy with the assignment that I can now see with the barcode trick. Now the quandary — we actually bid on this category, but are not “officially” assigned it yet. Should I cancel the bid? We also bid on the next level up, which I will obviously keep. (And I have double checked, not charged for an upgrade, it still shows as an active bid, etc)
  11. We booked one last August. We were in a suite, so the concierge was able to arrange the specific cabana we asked for, but we didn’t get confirmation until boarding. Pricing back then was way less (cabin and cabana) than it currently is, but based on today’s pricing, $1800 sounds good, especially if you have 8 people. We were doing bucket list travel last year, so it was a once in a lifetime cruise. It was incredible and I highly recommend it. We had cabana #1
  12. There is a more entry level Chase Sapphire card — the “Preferred” also offers travel insurance, although to a lesser degree. The annual fee is much lower but it doesn’t include some of the perks like airport lounge access, etc. It is still a really great card option for people who want travel benefits from a credit card.
  13. I think that is just what they are hoping to get — if they don’t sell at that price, at some point they will be reduced. We booked at $998 last August a few weeks before sailing — but for months the price was $1899 approx. Personally hope people decide not to book the various options that are so over priced, so that the pricing settles back to a more realistic range.
  14. @rklo— I would be livid with half of what you described. I generally really like the RC product but my current cruise booking experience has been more frustrating than past bookings. They have a lot of IT problems right now, so sadly, I’m not surprised to hear your experience, although I should be. I hope you end up having a great cruise in spite of it
  15. Have not heard, but don’t believe the Bahamas got hit by the last couple of hurricanes. Certainly not by Ian, and I don’t think Fiona either
  16. When I check my husband and I in, the first selected arrival time is always added to the second person before I even complete their check in, so you should be fine.
  17. Staff at the ports are hopefully aware that there is an ongoing issue with this. At least on the app a message pops up saying to go to the desk, which at least tells port-side crew that you have a booking and should not be summarily turned away. I will print edocs when they show up, if the set sail pass does not. I still have time to be patient for now.
  18. That makes a lot of sense. I’ve been here, on and off, for quite a few years and the overall change has become quite noticeable. I’ve never paid any attention to the booking part of the site, and certainly don’t plan on starting. Especially after finding out the ownership history. I’m not a fan of the particular travel brokers you mentioned. I do miss the great roll calls though. Of course, there are other venues for engagement but it’s just not the same.
  19. Many people are having the set sail pass issue. And it doesn’t matter if you use the app or website — no set sail pass. Been waiting for a few weeks since checkin and still nothing.
  20. It’s hard. Usually we book a hotel with a parking package and stay the night down there beforehand but this is just a 3 day, so it’s cheaper to park at the cruise terminal. I guess we will see how it goes between getting out of the house (hubby tends to be less focused about that than I am), traffics, etc.
