  1. Thank you Rich, Roy, drinks ladies, our recipe lady and all how enjoy this thread.

Bubble gum ice cream was always a favorite when I was young.  Basically showered with a friend this am as DH chatted with my while I took my shower.  The weather forecasters provide good entertainment value when taken with a grain of salt.

We are off to a medical test (non-Covid) and then signing our refi documents on the way home.  More money to spend on travel whenever we get to do that again.

Prayers to those who need them and best wishes to all.

Yum, carrot cake.  It’s one of the few cakes I like.  On my birthday one year we got the Pinnacle to make a small one for me, it was yummy.  It was very nice of them to do that.  We also had a carrot wedding cake.

We, too, had carrot wedding cake.  It was fabulous.

Thanks to Rich, Roy and the 'drinks ladies'.  The wine sounds wonderful for me but not DH.

A sunrise pic at the coast this am and a little bit of rainbow for a lucky start to our day.

Prayers to those who need them and best wishes to all.

  3. Thanks for the daily.

This spunky old broad is enjoying a rainy day on the Oregon coast.  Got my walk in with light rain at low tide so I could see what washed up last night.  Lots of dog walkers.

We finished all our interim steps for our mortgage refinance and should close early next week and save some bucks to put forward, hopefully, on cruising.

Prayers to those who need them and best wishes to all.

  4. Thanks for the daily and all who are here.

Prayers for all and best wishes for everyone else.

Had a lovely cold walk this am looking at the snow on the hills just above us (500' or so).  We had a few snow flurries yesterday afternoon but nothing to stick due to lots of rain.  Fortunately no ice this am.

I'm trying to learn how to stream so that we can cut the cord this week.  The remote works differently on every service but I have managed to figure out how to get almost everything we had on cable.  Can;t get the local antenna to pick up all my local channels but will work on that with chats with the neighbors when I'm on my walks.

Love Nat Geo and miss volunteering at the library shelving books.

  5. We sailed on Zaandam from Vancouver to Rio in Sep/Oct 2017.  We were in 1827 on the main deck.  Loved the location as we are early risers.  This cabin is right below one of the gangplank locations.  We enjoyed watching all the maneuvers.  Our cabin was identical to the lower promenade deck cabins that we visited during the cruise.  We had a lower promenade on Zuiderdam in 2019.  The only concern there is people who want to jog on the promenade deck even when it's posted 'no jogging'.  Again as early risers not much of a problem.

Just be aware of where the possible gangplank locations are.  We thought main deck was very quiet all in all.

  6. Thank you for the daily and great compliments to all who provide input, inspiration, comments and just enjoy the thread each day.

I've already seen good belly laughs posted today!

As for Beer Can Appreciation, just thought I'd share a small corner of DH's man cave.

DH has already requested hamburgers for dinner so no fish or turkey.

The dutch apple pie I made yesterday will be dessert again.  Yummy!

Prayers to all those who need them and good wishes to everyone.

Oregon has gone back to rainy today and looks to be included in most days for the next couple of weeks.447630398_beercans.thumb.jpg.539a408c857095a85db72f8b7590ce1d.jpg

  7. The penguin pics are marvelous.  Glad to see a couple of rock hoppers as they are the only ones outside of a zoo that I've gotten to see in person.

Another rainless day is Oregon although they are saying more tomorrow night.  My frosty walk this am was about 29F, just encouraged me to walk faster.

We got our Roku devices today so I am working on figuring out the whole streaming thing.  By this time next week, I think I may have the basics down.  Will spend a bit of time in the darkness of the day tomorrow morning to figure out how to arrange for my ease of viewing.  Then work out a training plan for DH.  We can get all our favorite shows and save some bucks off our crappy cable even with extra subscription channels.

Prayers to all.  Be safe everyone.  Good wishes to all who have gotten vaccine or appointment for it!

  8. Love all the South America pics.  We really enjoyed our trip on Zaandam several years ago.

Thanks to all.  Just a quiet, sunny day here.  Tomorrow isn't supposed to be quite so sunny but still dry so maybe a little weed pulling (at least where other can see them).

Time for New Scandinavian Cooking on PBS.  Need to do a Norway cruise.

Prayer for all who need them and congrats for another good day.

  9. I have enjoyed reading through the daily today, as always.  Just took me until the end of the day to get here.  That martini sure looks good.

Spent a fair bit of the day catching up with some old friends, which was marvelous.

Thoughts and prayers to all who need them and congrats for all.

Have a safe evening and good weekend.

  10. Thank you to Rich, Roy and the drinks ladies.

I'd never really thought about making a 'bloody mary' with red wine, kind of a veggie twist on sangria.

Maybe there will be someone down at the park flying kites on our sunny day.

Enjoyed an early morning walk.  Here's the sunrise.

    Everyone have a safe day.

  11. Wet and wild here in Oregon, as previously mentioned.  The wind has been pretty fierce knocking down a few trees in our area.

Thoughts and prayers with all.  Congrats to those of you able to get your jabs, may need to take a trip somewhere to get one as we are very far behind here.

  12. Thanks to Rich and Roy and the drinks ladies.  That margarita looks fabulous.  I, too, like no wood chardonnay so it's good I live in Oregon where most Chardonnay isn't woody or buttery like California.

Yesterday I mentioned a mask frame with a yogurt container.  The pattern came from Made By Barb.  https://www.madebybarb.com/2020/09/09/diy-face-mask-support-frame/

Here's a pic just placing it in an existing mask.  If you have a mask where you already put in a filter pocket, you can just slide it in.  I made a couple of pockets for existing mask (you can't see the frame) and just cut the ends to fit the width of the mask.  It sure makes breathing a bit easier.  Plastic milk jugs work well too.

  13. Thank you Rich, Roy and the drinks ladies.  I so look forward to all the info from everyone.

A little friend on my walk around the golf course at the 16th tee.  Some mornings I've seen two.  Another sunny day now that the fog has burned off, just not very warm.

Since I missed making lasagna the other day, I'm going for a black bean themed dish today.

Now it's time to make a couple of new masks with inserted frames to give us a little easier breathing.  I knew all those old yogurt containers had a purpose....

  14. Thanks to Rich and Roy and the 'drinks ladies'.

I was thinking of making black bean chili today and it turns out that is just perfect for bean day.

Today's wine almost sounds like a single malt scotch description from Islay, just missing the seaweed.

Rain here all day so taking down the tree and decorations and finishing my puzzle sound like good indoor activities.

  15. Lovely sunny morning here, about 45F but perfect for my morning walk.  Yesterday was a wet one.

We have lost luggage once coming back from Edinburgh, which then made us miss plane connections with 5 other co-ticketed individuals, and then involved a long taxi ride from Washington National to where our car was parked near Washington Dulles in the middle of the night.  We survived and eventually got our luggage delivered several days later.

  16. Happy New Year to all.  We celebrate New Years on Edinburgh, Scotland time so there is no need to stay up late.  A couple of the neighbors set off fireworks at midnight that woke us up but they didn't last too long, so back to sleep we went.

We opted for leftovers yesterday and will have two nice meals today.  Oyster stew for lunch and then steak with mushroom sauce and broccoli for dinner.

Looking forward to continuing enjoying this wonderful thread each day.

  17. Thanks to Rich and Roy and for all the wonderful things on this thread!

Missed the Zoom yesterday as we finally had some sun and decided to get outside, even if it was only in the high 30's.

Love fruitcake, especially Dundee Cake aged over the year with a few tipples of scotch.

Overhead Fred - rather than re-baking your cake, you might just want to let it age, like rum balls, that taste much better several weeks after they are made.  A nice treat for Valentine's Day!

  18. Lovely photos, especially of sunsets (which I won't see for a few days).  Out storm watching on the Oregon coast in Yachats - High wind and gale warnings, flooding (hopefully not too much in all the fire ravaged areas of the state) and small craft advisories.  Wonderful storm.  Made a big pot of veggie stew to enjoy and walked to the local bakery this am for fresh bread and treats.  Just finished my jigsaw puzzle, a favorite activity while my DH gets coffee in the morning on our cruises.

Thanks for all the wonderful posts!

  19. Thank you Rich and Roy and all the wonderful posters with pictures and thoughts.  I so love reading this each morning or afternoon.  I've just been lurking for several months and found this set of threads to be worth signing back on to cc boards.

We continue with much foggy weather here in the Oregon Willamette Valley.  Enjoying looking up the wine selections.

Thank you for such a nice place to visit each day!

  20. I've made several searches and read the CC basic page on San Diego embarkation.  I am trying to find out how early we can check our luggage with the porters.  We are the only ship listed as being in port on 6 Dec (HAL Rotterdam).  We get into SAN at 0835 on 6 Dec and wanted to drop our luggage and head over to the USS Midway.  We don't need to check in until later but don't want to drag our luggage around.  Any advice would be appreciated.
