  1. Thanks for the Daily.

Love the Hazlitt quote.  The others are good too.

Need to make sure to thank my neighbors for taking care of the house and yard while we are gone.

My creativity today should be pretty good as it is also my birthday so I get to do what I want after we fly to NY.

The wine should be good as it comes from Carlton, a good pinot producer.

Haven't been to the port, so looking forward to pictures.

Prayers for all those on the care list and those who need them.  Best wishes to all.

Sunrise from Myrtle Beach last week.

  2. Thanks for the daily.  We've made it to Charleston SC on our east coast adventure.  Lovely weather, not too humid.  Great set of days.  I, too, think my primary doc is great.

We've been to Reykjavik and Iceland several times and love it.  Don't have any pics on this computer.  One of our favorite activities is to head over to one of the public swimming pools in town.  Great place to swim laps, play on the slide and soak in the super-heated pools.  Costs are very reasonable and you can take a city bus from the cruise port.  I also think it's great fun that you can buy anything in Iceland with a credit card, even just a hot dog (tasty).

Prayers to all those on the care list and those who need them.  Best wishes to all.

  3. Thanks all for the Daily.

After several lovely days on the Florida Panhandle coast and in New Orleans, the fierce thunderstorms have made some driving days painful.  It took an hour to drive about 20 miles yesterday as the downpours abound Tallahassee required the traffic to slow to 25 mph as times and we still couldn't see much.  Today is just rain in JAX, so indoor activities at a few museums.  Off to Savannah tomorrow for a lovely weekend.

Prayers to all on the care list with a special prayer for Roy and everyone who needs one.  Best wishes to all.

Now to catch up on the past week.

  4. After a week of getting the garden sorted, I think today is a perfect day to slow down and meditate in the garden.  A free press is needed and maybe we'll see one again some day.  Fortunately no lumpy rugs here.

Doing the last minute shopping and tidy up before we head off for several weeks of south east and east coast touring ending with a jaunt to Kentucky.  Looking forward to so new places and visiting old friends.  And yes, although vaccinated masks, distancing and hand washing will be a major focus.

Prayers for all those on the care list and extra prayers for those undergoing surgery, pre-op and other health procedures today.  Best wishes for all.

  5. I started off reading early this am and then DH said let's go to the beach.  The weather was wonderful and even got a little sunburn.

We had so looked forward to spending King's Day in Delft last year after our TA but it was not to be.  Something to try to do in the future.

Today's wine comes from a winery about 20 minutes from our house.  The various vintners on Ribbon Ridge produce some nice Pinots.

Prayers for those on the care list and those who need them.  Best Wishes to all.

  6. Happy Birthday @dfish.  Thanks for all the recipes.

The 1989 Loma Prieta quake scared me as my folks lived very near the epicenter but I was in Virginia.  My uncle called to say they were all well.

When we lived in England there was a 4.0 earthquake in Lincoln that woke us up.  My DH and I looked at each other and went 'earthquake' and rolled over and went back to sleep.  The next day is was quite the news.

Prayers to those on the care list and those who need them.  Best wishes to all.

@rafinmdGreat news for the plan forward.  My prayers will be with you.

@superomaGood luck with the radiation treatments and your way ahead.

Love garlic in just about any savory food item.

Great pics of the canal and garlic!

Mushrooms are yummy, eggs benedict is not yummy.  I guess I'm our bean counter but my sis is a real bean counter for a living.

Our only visits to Liverpool were to the airport for a discount flight somewhere around Europe when we lived in the UK.

@kazuGood luck at the dentist today!

Used ASL in a past life but have forgotten most of it.  Virtual high 5's are the only ones available at the moment.  Love my rubber erasers, still - great for puzzles I do in pencil.

The meal looks good, I think I'll do a riff on it for dinner as it would use up some leftovers.

The heart test yesterday was a stepping stone to a possible lung transplant for DH in the future.  He is still 'too healthy' for the transplant but we are trying to get all the tests done so that if something happens to cause a precipitous drop we will be ready to go.  DH is much cheery today and doing well.

Again, thank you for all the support.  I love this thread.

I need to go look at our Panama Canal pics from Dec 2019.  As we came into Gatun Lake it was sunny but you could see the storm coming towards us.  I'll post pics later.

Prayers to those on the care list and those who need them.  Best wishes to all.

@rafinmdSorry to hear about the 2nd trail.  Definitely keeping you in our prayers for another alternative.

No ex's, one nice estate attorney, and laughing is indeed the key to success.

Got up really early after a bad night's sleep to get DH to the hospital.  The catheritzations went well.  His stents and arteries are clear and there is no sign of pulmonary hypertension.  He is resting now at home.  Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers!

I will now have a glass of wine and relax.

Love all the pictures of the fjord and the other pics too.

Prayers for all those on the care list and those who need them.  Best wishes to all.

Glad we're celebrating our plants and gardeners, peach cobbler sounds wonderful, and scrabble is great fun especially when 'arguing' about real words.

Back to normal after the day off yesterday with vaccine effects.  Had a wonderful walk this am.

Prayers to all on the care list and those who need them.  Best wishes to all.

@St. Louis Sal Best of luck with the drug trial screening today.

Have the 2nd shot malaise today but am not complaining.

We've had more wind today that I expected and it's made it pretty chilly here.  One of the biggest winds we have experienced was on a trip in the Orkney Islands.  We had taken the car ferry over to Rousay to visit the neolithic sites and were able to lean into the wind without falling forward down the hill.  Then we heard on the radio that they were shutting down the ferry early and folks should get back in the wanted to go back to Mainland.  A very choppy 30 minute ferry ride with waves coming over the sides.

Grilled cheese is always a good choice.

As a library volunteer, I adore all the librarians and the work they do.  Our library has been able to open as long as we aren't in 'extreme risk' category.  It is the busiest library in our consortium because it has been open.  So nice to visit my library in person rather than just picking up books.  I can start volunteering again at the end of the month since I have my shots.

We stopped in San Antonio in Oct 2017.  We had booked a shore excursion to a winery and then the Chilean rodeo demonstration with lunch.  It was a cool day but we enjoyed the vineyard and chatted about living in Oregon Pinot Noir country.  The wine was lovely.  We really enjoyed the rodeo demonstration and the drinks and lunch.  This was a good excursion since lots of folks were disembarking and embarking that day and we didn't have to be around.

Prayers to those on the care list and those who need them.  Best wishes to all.

@rafinmdprayers you get the second study.

  13. Thank you Rich, Roy, the drinks and recipe ladies and everyone who enjoys the Daily.

Our neighbor lady is in a barbershop quartet and loves it.  We've seen her once and thought the ladies were great.

No 8 tracks but we used to see them quite a bit at car shows before Covid.

No pets of our own as we were traveling a lot and thought it unfair to be gone all the time.  May reconsider in the future but love to play with other folks' pets!

Just got my second JAB this morning.  DH got his last weekend.

Looking forward to the warming weather this week and getting some more yard work done.

Got the taxes back from the accountant with a refund.

We have a busy week ahead with a variety of appointments.  Would appreciate prayers on Wednesday for DH's heart catheretization procedure.

Prayer for all on the care list and those who need them.  Best wishes to all.

    POWs are definitely heroes.

@sailingdutchyThank you for the Keukenhoff pics.  I still want to go but will have to wait another year.

@bennybear Love the cherry blossoms in Japan.  Your pics are wonderful.

On a business trip many years ago, I was in Tokyo and Hamamatsu during cherry blossom time.  We were hosted for a special dinner that ended with cherry blossom ice cream that was just divine.

Best wishes to all those celebrating.

Another grey day in the low 50s.  Did have a bit of sun very early on my way to a doctor checkup with a nice bit of rainbow.

I've been trying to find a pic of me and my siblings riding a camel at the SF Zoo when we were kids to no avail.  It was a special treat.

I will definitely leave the drawing to others.

Grey and cloudy here today so having to move the furniture and vacuum well for the carpet cleaners tomorrow gave me a good work out.

Will be having beer with dinner.  Caramel corn is a nice treat.  Have enjoyed all the pictures of the beavers.  Living in Oregon means half the cars have OSU beaver stickers.

Love the pics of Greenland, hope to see it on a VoV sometime in the future.

Love California Poppies growing across the hills.  Will have a wee dram in honor of Tartan Day while wearing a Tartan scarf.  I, too, had to look up New Beer's Eve.  Definitely have a nice beer tomorrow.

We visited Aruba in Dec 2018 as the last of the ABCs.  We took the local bus to the Butterfly Farm where the butterflies liked hanging out on DH.  Then caught one of the local van's back to Oranjestad where we just wandered about.

Prayers to all those on the care list and those that need them.  Best wishes to all.

    Happy Easter to all.

A fairly sunny day here.  Have already walked around the golf course and do try not to bump into things when just generally walking around.

Love the pics of Messina.  Not a place in Italy we have visited.

Dinner will be grilled salmon and asparagus with mashed potatoes.

DH got his 2nd Pfizer shot yesterday.  Yeah!  Mine is scheduled for next weekend.

We've been off at the coast enjoying a good relaxing week so I'm trying to get caught up.

PB&J on a toasted everything bagel is always good!

Happy Good Friday to those who celebrate.

A good fresh pecan waffle sounds marvelous and is a good idea for breakfast tomorrow.

Breaded pork tenderloin sound like it really ought to be pounded thin and turned into schnitzel!

I would alter our drink of the day to use Black Bottle (a blended scotch from Bunnahabhain on Islay) rather than bespoiling my Islay single malts.  Islays are some of my favorites and DH and I have visited all the Islay distillers, some more than once.

Have spent a fair bit of time near/at Port Canaveral.  Most of it was at Cape Canaveral when I worked for the Air Force on launch.  Lots of wonderful stuff to see at Kennedy Space Center also.  One of the most wonderful things I got to experience was watching the sea turtles come ashore one evening.  That was really cool.  Unfortunately no pics.

Prayers to all those on the care list and those who need them.  Best wishes to all.

A nice combo of days today.  We'll have to make a 'happy drink' cocktail this afternoon to celebrate.

It's supposed to be a rainy day today so just a few errands.  Costco called that DH's new glasses are in.

In September 2019 we were supposed to stop in Sydney but Hurricane Dorian had other ideas so we missed Sydney and St Pierre and Miquelon while hiding out behind Anticosti Island.  The Captain did a great job keeping us in calmer waters, just a lot of rain and no outside decks open.  I've been to Sydney on a land trip of Nova Scotia and loved the Cabot Trail.

Prayers for those on the care list and those who need them.  Best wishes to all.

  22. Thanks to Rich, Roy, the drinks and recipe ladies.

Great selection of days.  Goofing off is high on the list today.

I successfully installed the new wifi router the other day and it is much faster than the old one and no rental fee.

We disembarked in Rio in Oct 2017 after 38 days from Vancouver.  We really wanted to end in Buenos Aires but settled for Rio because the rest of the itinerary was great. After having to get VISAs we decided that we should spend several days to partially justify the cost.   We agree with @kazu and @StLouisCruisers and others, that we don't really need to go back, and certainly not as an embarkation or disembarkation point.  The main tour lecturer on the Zaandam gave what we thought was a very good chat about Rio.  We heard about all the highlights and being careful, staying with groups of people you knew, not going on the beach after dark, pick pocket heaven, and good safety procedures.  She also strongly recommended against taking any of the favela tours both due to safety and that they directly support the drug, sex, and weapons traffickers.  We didn't have any desire to go to a favela so it wasn't a difficult decision to make.

The lights were beautiful coming into port early in the morning. You can see Christ the Redeemer on the hill with Ipanema and Copa Cabana beaches where the bright lights are.

After dealing with the chaos at the port we got a taxi to our hotel to drop our luggage and were reminded to stay in the area after dark, not go to the beach after dark, and only get cabs at hotels.  We popped off to look for lunch and found a great little local joint where the ladies sitting next to us helped us order, including our really cold Polar beers.

    DSCN6858.thumb.JPG.3afa43eeb5b4ec7861cb3513df0e290b.JPG

The next day was the Day of the Dead.  We had a nice hotel on Copa Cabana Beach with a view so got to watch a big parade.  Then we took a taxi to the far end of Ipanema beach and walked back to the hotel meeting with other folks from our cruise.

Our final day we took the grand tour before heading to the airport.  Agree with @bobpatj that this is a terrible airport, even after the Olympics there was really nothing there, especially not anything you would expect at an international airport.

Bottom line on Rio.  It's worth a stop on a cruise but I wouldn't start or end there.

Prayers for all those on the care list and those who need them.  Best wishes to all.

  23. Thanks to Rich, Roy, the drinks and recipe ladies and everyone at the daily.

Spring is continuing the cool, rainy weather of yesterday.

I decided several moves ago that we had to stop collecting books.  Still an avid user of the library, both hard books and ebooks.

Happiness is a great way to enjoy the day along with caring for the earth.

My task for the day is to install our new wifi router as we have cut the cable cord, so I can send the 'rented' one back and cut another few bucks off my bill.  Not a real techie type but found a couple of tutorials and should be able to make this work.

Prayers to all on the care list and those who need them and best wishes to all.  Glad to see lots of jabs occurring and scheduled.
