1. If you're in a pinch getting ready for dinner and there isn't enough shower time for you and your cabin mate, sometimes I'll run up there and use those showers in order to speed up our "getting ready" process. Depends on your location on the ship, but it's saved me a lengthly wait in the cabin a few times! :p

  2. Personally, if it were free and you weren't specifically in another cabin, I'd take it! We've done aft before and never had an issue with motion or vibration. I prefer to go midship usually but going aft is a unique experience as well. If it's free, enjoy it and see what you think :) you'll like being so close to the aft Lido area and aft Promenade, near all the action!

  3.
Not comforting to know we are on the last cruise before the repairs.
What difference does it make? As others have said, work like this is usually difficult to schedule due to the availability of dry docks. The fact that your cruise is the week before is sheer coincidence. I'll bet you 99% of the ship has no idea it's going into dry dock the next week.

Unless the issue worsens (and none of us are experts enough to say the odds of that, but Celebrity isn't expecting it to happen), your cruise will be completely normal. Don't stress over this.
  4. We were there last year and having San Juan as a port of call was no different than any other port. I think the lax setup is only as a home port...

In my experience, this is correct. Keep in mind that at home ports, the security screening is done by the port, and on ports of call it is done by the ship. Meaning the lax security is when embarking at San Juan. If you're just on a port call, you'll be subject to the same Carnival on board security as all other ports.

With that being said, I've managed to carry liquor on. Once was in a rum runner wrapped in a towel. Other time they sent me to give up my bottle but the person at the desk wasn't paying attention, so I just walked by...then ran to my room! Haha

So my two cents: bringing bottles will be more difficult this time around.

  5. This whole requesting an upgrade thing has always seemed like a bit of a unicorn to me. Plenty of talk about it, but I don't think it actually makes a difference. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes with guarantees to decide when/where your cabin is assigned though that there are plenty of theories. For PVP's who tell you you're on this "list", they look like a superstar if you do happen to get upgraded though.

The only thing my PVP has said that I do believe about guarantees is if you're linked bookings they'll try to accommodate you close by if you request it. It makes perfect sense to me and has always been the case when we've done guarantee.

    Deck 8 – midship / across from 8395

    Deck 9 – midship / across from 9403

Best time is any time that is not right before dinner on a formal night ;)

I don't remember the prices, but we've never had trouble getting change from Guest Services. I suggest bringing soap/detergent as the ones on board are usually quite pricey.

  7. another strategy would be to wait for your Balcony assignment and then make your move. Then you can weigh how much that move is worth to you. I was a Balcony guarantee on Magic and just got assigned Deck 9 right under those Lido cabins. Just steps away from stairs and elevators to pool. I'm probably closer to pool than a lot of the Lido Balconies. Not worth the $600-$700 it would cost for me to get assigned to Lido. They are using the guarantee rates to fill ship while maintaining the assigned levels at much much higher prices.

Not a bad strategy at all. Do you guys gamble? Haha! ;)

  8. Well the waiting is over! We have been assigned 7299. Looks like it is midship with all cabins around it and in every direction so it should be quiet! I like the rock of the boat though so we will see how much movement if any...other than that I am very pleased! I cant find any pics or any info on it though on Cruiselinerooms....so that was kind of a bummer! So my hunt for information is ON!

Congrats on the assignment, looks great! If you go back to Cruiselinerooms and look at Conquest (sister ship to Liberty) there are some pictures of that cabin. It's a pretty standard layout so most suites of that same category will look the same. Trust me, you'll love it :)

  9. Be advised that sometimes this charge is sufficient to trigger a fraud warning on your credit card. It happens to me almost every time and then my credit card company puts a stop on my card. The charge goes on the morning of your cruise, not when you check in. It will usually be Miami FL and the "vendor" will be the name of your ship. Now when I give this specific info, the credit card company seems to be better with not flagging it.

  10. I find the aft "adults only" area to be very poorly signed/enforced. Most people are not aware that it is adults only and therefore it is not uncommon to find families with children. For that reason, I prefer Serenity.

In my opinion, putting an adult only pool and hot tubs next to the 24hr pizza place was probably not a stellar design move :p

  11. And this is a potential dilemma? Really?

Clearly it is, if the OP took the time to post it. And judging by the number of views/responses, clearly others are interested as well. I didn't know what the protocol for this was either so I found it interesting to know. No need to knock others, just don't post at all.

  12. 10 people for ATD is probably a poor choice. I've heard of a lot of long waits for groups above 4 people. But of course it all depends on the night and what time you go.

So you do run the risk of having to wait if you do ATD with that many people. But an assigned time (if you can all agree on one) guarantees you no waits. Depends on if you want to take the chance and how well everyone is with waiting, when needed.

We have a group of 9 for my next cruise and have an assigned time, exactly for this reason. My PVP suggested this for us and I think it's the best way to go for us because when we're hungry, we're hungry!

  13. Yeah on that itinerary the side of the ship is really 50/50 so I'd be inclined not to act on their advice. As for location, we've never had an issue with noise on Lido/Panorama balconies. We usually try to be just forward of the elevators as the ones further back tend to be a little heavier traffic. Very convenient being able to walk right out to Lido and having the atrium elevators right there. Not far from anywhere!

  14. We are sailing the Freedom the week before you on Sept 1. I just noticed a price drop yesterday on a balcony and contacted PVP to upgrade. It was on a GTY rate, went ahead and took the gamble. Within about 2 hours my cabin was assigned.. Panoramic Deck...

Any thoughts on this deck from others??

We've done the Panorama deck many times and we really like it! Great to be able to just walk right out to the pool deck without needing an elevator, and very close to Serenity if you're one for the adults only area. Great assignment for a guarantee! To pay for that upgrade it could easily be $100 to move up to that deck on a 1 week cruise. So you did well!

  15. When I went to Alaska on Carnival a few years back, the sailing was very quiet. Never anyone in the nightclub, hardly anyone at late dinner. After 9pm on the public decks, you'd have sworn we left Vancouver empty :P

That was in the month of May, in the summer (when school is out) there may be more families. However, I wouldn't expect it to be a party boat up there, not excessively at least.

  16. I find that the first night or two and early on can be quiet, but that later in the evening and later in the week people always seem to come out. We usually will go early-ish and stick it out. Lately we've met a lot of fantastic people! Some cruises the martini bar turns into "the" place to be after dinner, with a lot of straight guests sticking around for the fun company!

Also, more often than not we have had staff join us. Some of the social hosts and sometimes dancers always seem to make an appearance at least once in the week. Hope this keeps up!

  17. Not that I would want to, but the 1A's have come down in price by a wide margin. They would consider that a downgrade correct? (in other words, not possible?)

That is also a considerable downgrade. From a premium deck all the way to basement bunks lol :P

Your best bet is to see what price the balcony cabins are at. If you have a spa interior, you're on the upper end of the interior cabin categories. So you may find you can upgrade to a balcony for a modest price.

    Good luck!
