  1. Yup, that will be perfect - His parents will definitely not let him be out of the cabin beyond the teen club hours/events, which I assume should be concluded each evening before midnight 🙂 Thanks for the info... he'll be VERY happy to know he can gorge himself on pizza almost all of his waking hours lol!
  2. Thanks for the info so far... perhaps I'll post in the ports of call page for the shopping info.
  3. Oh another question... is Izumi open for lunch as well as dinner? Thanks 🙂
  4. Hi there cruisers... we (hubby, sister, her hubby and their teen son, and me) are cruising on the Jewel next month, and I was hoping You might be able to provide a little info for me in advance if possible? 1. What kinds of activities are there for our nephew to enjoy? Is the teen club well run on this ship? 2. Same nephew is wondering about availability of pizza in the evenings? (He's a bottomless pit of a stomach disguised as a human in sneakers these days!! LOL) 3. Us grownups LOVE to dance to live music, preferably 80's, disco, classic rock, etc. - are the current music offerings for live music pretty decent? 4. What theme nights are happening on the ship these days that we might want to pack special clothing for? 5. And particularly for the ladies... my sister is time crunched leading up to our trip and will need to shop for sun dresses/evening smart casual dresses the day before we cruise after arriving in Port Canaveral - can anyone recommend a great mall not too far from the port where we might be able to shop for clothing for her? Thanks for any info you can provide... Happy Cruising to you all!! 🙂
  5. I thoroughly enjoyed joining you virtually on this trip, and can't wait for our turn next month! I'm so glad to hear that you're pleased with the ship and crew and food, and hope we have the same great experience as you. Safe travels home to you, and hopefully you have a smooth flight 🙂
  6. We are Canadian, and yup, one carton per traveller is our exemption limit which is fine... just trying to find out the exact cost for him 🙂
  7. Congrats on the blackjack and poker wins!! Thanks for all the great pics and your honest opinions on the food too... and hope you enjoy your massage 🙂
  8. 1. I've seen lists for various cruise lines that show which cruise directors are on each ship and for how long... but was wondering if Royal has a list like this for various musical acts/bands, or comedy/novelty acts (jugglers or magicians, etc.) ? 2. Does anyone know the cost of a carton of cigarettes in the duty free shops on board in the Caribbean? We don't smoke, but our house sitter does, and he's hoping to know the cost. 3. Has anyone seen actual crab legs on any of the ships in the last few years? Thanks for any info you can provide 🙂
  9. Oh hey... if possible, could you check and see if they have any flavored Pellegrino beverages on board? Many thanks 🙂
  10. So glad I found your live review - we're boarding the Jewel in December and love hearing all about her! Glad to see that you're pleased with the MDR food and service thus far, and hope we enjoy the same great experience 🙂 Have you had a chance to check out the live band entertainment? What offerings are there? Ideally, we really enjoy a band that can play pop, rock, top 40 type music for dancing. Hope you continue to enjoy a great cruise!!! And hope you keep sharing those great pics of food... can't wait for our turn! 🙂
  11. Howdy... wondering if RCL stocks just plain San Pellegrino, or if they also happen to carry the flavored options?
  12. YAY!!! Success!!!! Called back and asked for a supervisor, and while it took them over 20 minutes, they eventually were able to accomodate my request to switch the room without any additional costs or fees 🙂 Now to wait for the next 4 months before we can enjoy that amazing balcony!! Thanks everyone... I figured I was correct in my initial understanding 🙂
  13. I'm a little confused... I was under the impression that as long as I am currently booked in a category, 4B in this case, and another 4B has opened up that I like the location of better, I should be able to switch over to that other location... yes? On the phone with one of their reps, they're telling me that I can't switch unless I want to pay double. Uhhhh... what?! It's the same category... just a different location. I don't get it. Any insight from any of you who might be able to explain why I can't switch? Jewel of the Seas, Dec 2022... deposit paid, not paid in full yet.
  14. Without reading all of the responses thus far, I'm going to take a wild guess and repeat what I believe most people have said: Yup, sucks that they moved you like that, and I'd be a little upset too, but why on earth would you go beating up on the guest services staff upon boarding?! You're a guest with a legitimate beef, yes... but if you do that, it just makes you a guest with a legitimate beef who also happens to be a total a-hole. You ever hear the phrase "you can catch more flies with honey that you can with vinegar"? Try applying that.
  15. Don't know... all I know is that there have been confirmed cases of the cruise lines allowing passengers to smoke in bathrooms/balconies... just addressing the OP's original post. I suspect it is probably a case by case (or ship by ship) decision made by the captain.
  16. We were on a Princess Alaska Cruise May 25th to June 8th, and the quarantine zone on that ship was on Aloha Deck (deck 12) portside, balcony rooms. We had a pretty high count of positive cases, though there were no official announcements indicating numbers. Guests quarantined in those rooms were allowed to smoke on the balcony. I recall reading a "live from" thread with Jim and Iain in which I believe Jim had stated that once he and his partner were quarantined in their oceanview room, his partner was expressly told he would be permitted to smoke in the bathroom. If I remember correctly, they were on the Silhouette doing a rather extensive cruise in the Caribbean, TA and Europe.
  17. this is essentially exactly like your room, with the placement of the bed nearer the bathroom as shown:
  18. Hey Don, no... definitely not a disaster... that would have been the Costa Concordia or the Diamond Princess at the beginning of covid 😉 Definitely some less than stellar experiences though... but overall, still a great cruise for us - we knew going in that we were going to use it as a way to just kick back and really relax, enjoy the scenery, food that I didn't have to cook, and just the feeling of being back on a cruiseship (I always say my favorite place on the planet is in my husbands arms at the railing of a ship 🙂) We certainly had better buffet food, and though covid is to blame for some of the shortcomings on this one, that's not the whole reason. But main dining room food wasn't too bad in general, and I still managed to gain a couple of pounds haha! The music was snoozeville, but I guess that's the vibe Princess was going for with this being an Alaskan cruise rather than a more vibrant Caribbean kind of feel, so we just sought out different forms of entertainment and still had fun and danced. And the staff... well they are still a HUGE part of what we love about cruising - they genuinely seem to want to make guests happy, and by and large, we were happy almost all of the time! 🙂
  19. A couple of times we thought we could smell cigarette smoke, but couldn't tell where it was coming from, aside from one time we actually saw one guest smoking two decks above us... turns out it was coming from Aloha deck where covid positive guests were being jailed - they had been given permission to smoke on their balcony. It was really fleeting the couple times we noticed it though... so not really an issue, even though we spent quite a bit of time on our balcony. I hope you have a wonderful cruise and the weather is as lovely for you as it was for us 🙂
  20. Her photos and valuable input, especially during my "live from" were awesome!!
  21. Agreed... There may have been a sign somewhere in the terminal at check in, but if there was, it wasn't obvious - and yep, it's in the FAQ's on the website, but you have to go digging for it. It should be very prominently displayed, much like in the airports. Being new to the Medallion, I had no idea, but I'll certainly know going forward! 🙂
  22. Before the cruise, we were required to have a covid test done, and then we had to show proof of the negative test upon check-in in Vancouver. During the cruise, nope... not even on turnaround day in Whittier, and as Canadians, we were not required to take a covid test before flying home, but Americans were required to take a covid test if they were flying into the US from Vancouver - some guests had opted to take the Princess shuttle to Seattle and continue their air journey home from there, as domestic flights within the US at that time were not reliant on covid tests being procured prior to a flight. I believe it has now changed for US bound flights departing from Canada, in that there is no longer a covid test requirement. However, the situation seems to be changing almost daily, so definitely be sure to read up on any requirements right up until your cruise date 🙂
