  1. I'm willing to bet that it's part of a marketing tool to sell more fitness related services/products. Once people see how much they gained, they're more likely to shell out for a "detox" wrap or the like.

I've noticed that I gain several pounds of water weight on the ship due to the salty air, salt content in food, and traces of salt in the tap water. Typically, I can cut down on the water retention by drinking bottled water. The good news is that after a couple days back home, I've lost about 90% of any weight I put on. I attribute the last 10% to actual indulgence. :p

Celebrity has had scales in their Suites for quite some years, even before they were promoting their fitness programs. And I agree...drink bottled water. The salt content is much lower.

  2. We stayed at the Emirates Palace a few years ago and loved having a butler. The pool butlers brought us slippers and housecoats to use by the pool. They would come by with fruit skewers and to clean your sunglasses periodically. After lounging by the pool all day, we asked the pool butler to call our butler and ask him to draw us a bubble bath. We arrived back to our room to have our butler waiting for us with a hot bubble bath with rose petals scattered over the top.

    Now THAT is true luxury...

  3. We have had wonderful Butlers for some of our cruises. One that stood out was Mateus, onboard Mercury. We were onboard for a B2B out of Sydney, Australia and disembarked in Hawaii, 29 days laters.

He was wonderful. I always ordered fruit and yogurt for breakfast...but one morning he delivered a huge platter of piping hot french toast. I started to tell him no, but then he quickly held the plate up under my nose, so that I could get smell that wonderful aroma. It worked like a charm. And that was just one special thing he did. He always had our lattes delivered every afternoon, and wonderful little sandwiches as well.

It's special Butlers like him that create lasting memories.

In two weeks we'll be onboard Equinox, and hopefully we'll have another special Butler to put in our memory book.

  4. No one has mentioned as yet the key to the exclusive Elite+ washroom..

YES, YES, YES! An Elite+ washroom! A place where there will be an attendant who will hand-dry one's fingers (wouldn't want to spread that nasty norovirus)...a place where iced lemon flowered water would flow...a place where all the "thrones" would be soft cushioned and resplendant in gold and jewels...and a place of solace, to escape the maddening crowd that isn't afforded this luxury.

THIS is my dream, THIS is the ultimate, THIS is nonsense...

  5. Thank you everyone for your serious input. Most people I talk to always check , but no one knows what would happen if you did find them in your cabin. Does anyone know of any repellent to take with you to kill any found. Thanks for your answers:D

Google "Bed bugs". You'll probably find all sorts of devices for detection and abatement.

  6. We lost our 1,2,3 promotion just recently. We had originally booked a S2 for a Venice Overnight cruise on Equinox. We then noticed on Celebrity's site that the S1's price had dropped after final payment (which usually occurs). We knew we could not get the lowered fare, but did want the cabin location of the S1.

We were informed that since we were making a change in cabins, we would lose the promotion.

But this week our specific cruise was listed on the Tuesday Specials, and now there is a Suite fare of over $2000.00/cabin less than what we paid.

Needless to say, I'm not a happy camper. I'm never one to complain over fare reductions. But this tremendous drop in price isn't sitting well with me. I called Celebrity to voice my concerns, and to at least get our promotions restored and was told that wasn't possible.

    as well as many others.

There is a lot of very good information already in these threads that probably does not need to be repeated again.

However, if you have additional and specific questions after reading these threads, I am sure many here would be glad to answer them.

    Happy reading!

Thank you for obtaining all the threads for me. It appears that Oceania may be our new choice of cruising experience.

  8. My wife and I have have done 3 Celebrity( approx. 36 days) and 4 Oceania cruises( approx. 60 days). We also have 136 days on Seabourn and about 60 on Silversea.

In our opinion Oceania is a significant step up from Celebrity. Open seating, better food, dress code, and the type of passenger.

    Thank you for your response.

  9. My DH and I have been Celebrity loyalists for almost 14 years, but have found some of their policies not to our liking. We are looking for a change.

We've cruised on Azamara and found that the smaller, intimate ship very nice.

We'd like to know what are the distinct differences between the two lines?

Thank you in advance for your comments.

  10. Say it ain't so!! But yanno, I found that to be true at the local gym also (just one more reason I don't go anymore). It's one thing to have to lift your own weights at home, but when you're on a cruise is it too much to ask to have some tall, buff, tanned hunk do it for me while I lay in a chase with one of those umbrella drinks?

Sounds like a plan to me!

  11. I was on Silhouette in April and there was a new show called "Sin City" held in Celebrity Central.

It is a later show and they continually let folks know it is "ADULT ONLY" and

I don't know if the same show is on Reflection or not.

Now, that particular show? It is Adult Comedy and I remember it being

3 times during the cruise....(it may have been more but I remember seeing

it in the daily 3 different days)...anyway, that show? I do believe they

did the same stuff.....not everyone goes every night so I can see why

the material might be the same.

Personally, I thought it was VERY FUNNY:D.....one of those shows where

the Comedian was very good and it related to daily life and you could laugh till it hurt;)

This show was actually later than usual.....I think it started about 11-

    11:30.....

As fo the rest of things? Some folks say boring.....I say laid back

    and relaxed:)

Lois, Sin City is on Reflection. We loved it! Very funny, and yes, it's an "Adults Only" show. Great addition to evening entertainment.

Cruisestich, I agree with you. Most Celebrity reviews usually point out the negative, and if you do post a positive review, there will be some responses that will label you a "Celebrity cheerleader". Go figure.

We've been cruising with Celebrity since 1999, and have enjoyed every cruise. Some were better than others, but all in all, this cruiseline fits our lifestyle and what we want in a crusing vacation.

Keep an open mind, and I maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised.

  12. We were in #2219 S2 right next door to the S1. Some noise from the chairs above, but nothing that was excessive.

There was one evening when apparently a cleaning crew had been told to clean the table and chair area at 2 am and it was very noisy and woke us. All the cabins Aft cabins had complained, and we received apology phone calls from Guest Relations, and a letter from the Hotel Manager, stating that there would be a new policy started. No one would be allowed into that area after 10:30 pm.

This was just a one time incident. I would definitely book that cabin again.

  13. I have purposely avoided reading and posting for the last few weeks as I can't stand the bickering. Remember, "One man's trash is another man's treasure".

My husband and I sailed on the inaugural of Reflection, AQ 2149, slightly off the hump. Nine night sailing, eight days of rain, consequently all indoor spaces were utilized to the max. It did not feel too crowded, ever. Seems that the busiest spot was the sales center where people were lined up night and day to book their next cruise, which tells me that Celebrity was doing something right.

My larger, angled balcony on deck 12 worked perfectly on those rainy days. I put on several layers of clothes, and a blanket and thoroughly enjoyed the view, even in the rain, protected by the overhang. Bed was positioned closer to the balcony, but it didn't matter as Aqua Class does not permit triple occupancy. The food and service at BLU were outstanding, and the only time we ever had to "wait" for a table was on the first night, when it was suggested that we arrive after 8 PM. The tables WERE close together, which facilitated conversing with fellow passengers, when we chose to do so, which was every meal. BLU is fine dining at sea, small ship experience on a large ship. We ate in the MDR twice, food and service were really good.

We are not Elite as this was our first time sailing Celebrity, but we have cruised with other lines, so I won't begin to get into the free drinks, coupons debate. On our other sailings we have bypassed ports because of weather, political issues, and all sorts of other reasons. We never received any sort of compensation, with the exception of the inaugural of Sovereign of the Seas, which experienced problems because of the politics in Haiti at the time, and also because the ship was trapped in San Juan Harbor when a tanker ran aground in the channel leading in and out of the harbor. The additional 14 hours in San Juan caused us to bypass St Thomas, and passengers were very upset, missing the opportunity to shop, which I didn't care about, and also missing out on the fanfare of the very first new cruise ship in each port in decades, which I did. All passengers received a certificate for a "buy one, get one free" cruise, which my husband and I used a few months later, to take our kids. All in all, a good deal. If you are unwilling or unable to deal with the unexpected, I suggest you stay at home.

Thank you for your opinions. It's always good to have another point of view. And I agree with your statement, "If you are unwilling or unable to deal with the unexpected, I suggest you at home". This is so true when it comes to cruising.

  14. I'm with GaryCarla, RichSea and the rest who think the bricking should cease and desist!

We are new to Celebrity, usually sail HAL and decided to try the Reflection for our upcoming family cruise. Now I'm thinking I made a HUGE mistake! What I've seen by X sailers is truly an "Elite" mentality!!!

"I'm Elite and I didn't get my free drink and the captain didn't invite me to his table"

"They gave me a COUPON....*I* do not use coupons"

"I booked Aqua and I had to wait 12 seconds to get a table in Blu":eek:

Oh, the humanity of it all!!!

    CaroleSS,

You will not be alone. I have booked May 17, 2013 sailing on Reflection. Deck 6, MDR, and I cannot wait. No one will crush my vacation with their opinions.

Spring 2012, I sailed on Celebrity Solistice, with my husband, who constantly complained about the food. I thought the food was fantastic, I am a seafood buff, ordered seafood just about every night, and could not be happier. So you know what, my Reflection cruise, I am leaving him home. I DID NOT HAVE TO COOK. I DID NOT HAVE TO CLEAN, I DID NOT HAVE TO LIFT A FINGER , What is better than that. People, just stop complaining and consider yourself how lucky and fortunate you are to even be able to afford a cruise. Think about the unfortunate. Think about the people that are still trying to pull their lives together after Hurricane Sandy. Just STOP, STOP, STOP.

I like your attitude. We''ll be on the Transatlantic a couple of weeks prior to your cruise, and we'll keep everything tidy for you. Enjoy!

  15. Yes Karynanne.. Time will "FLY BY" for sure...

I flew airplanes for well over 40+ years...and, I can tell you, my career was there and, it flew by so fast, I can hardly remember it anymore....

How are you folks anyway??? ;)

LOL, LOL...Gary, after re-reading my post, I noticed my awful pun. Groan....

We're just great! Thanks for asking!
