  1. I'm glad you had such a good time. (I'm the allergy person who wanted to know about whether the mattresses were bare.) Another odd question: Did they have actual dairy/cream for the coffee in the Studio Lounge?
  2. I prefer filling this out to having to specify my allergies every single time I eat. https://ncl.secure.force.com/AccessDeskForm/ When I was on the Jade, I was assigned a special crew member who oversaw all the special dietary needs. I was able to tell them ahead of time what I wanted and they made dishes special for me, which I liked. I love lamb, but never usually get to eat it at a restaurant, due to the use of rosemary, sage and thyme. I was able to have it on the Jade. That was pre-Covid days. I'll be going on my first post-Covid cruise in September, so we'll see how the Escape handles it.
  3. Well, in my case, I would love to know ahead of time how to contact the Hotel Directors on the Escape and Pride of America, because I have special allergy needs for my cabin. Or to know who to look for on embarkation day for those reasons. Generally, this info gets passed on by the Access email, so I eventually find out.
  4. Not sure this will help anyone, but I decide on the travel insurance based on the trip. For instance, we have 2 driving to nearby states vacations I'm not bothering to insure, since our health insurance and car insurance will cover everything and the hotels are refundable. For the New England/Canada cruise out of NYC, I got a tiny bit of Basics Travel medical insurance to cover me for the 2 days in Canada and At Sea day. The entire trip will only cost $1500, so not worth spending much to insure it. For the big expensive going to Hawaii and doing Pride of America, I got Preferred coverage, with like $500,000 evac stuff, natural disaster coverage and even a quarantine rider, just in case. After some research, I went with AIG Travel Guard, whom I have used in the past.
  5. In some of the NCL Escape dailies, I've seen Thermal Spa day passes on sale for $54 during port days. Not sure if that price is current.
  6. This may sound old fashioned, but I bring a hot water bottle. It's made of some kind of rubber or silicone and has the screw-on plastic stopper. Alternatively, bring many Ziploc bags and put hot water from either your cabin's coffee maker or the buffet hot water (you will need a thermal mug to carry it) in the outer Ziploc and then put your compress in a smaller Ziploc inside the bigger hot water bath Ziploc. My cold therapy trick is also Ziploc-based. Ice in a ziploc, wrapped in a towel. I haven't used any, but I think there are chemical packs for both hot and cold, where you just sort of crush the pack and it will get hot or cold.
  7. Thanks. It's very rare that I ever stay anywhere that has one. PURE hotels used to, but they stopped because it took housekeeping too long. Yeah, you wouldn't be able to tell by visual if the mattress had a pillowtop feature, but you would feel that through the encasement.
  8. These forums seem to no longer allow person to person messaging, but I would love any information about the mattress and bedding, so I know how many allergy covers to bring and what size. That does look like a full size bed, but sometimes cruise cabins just have 2 small beds pushed together.
  9. I do always contact the access desk, since in addition to dust mites, I have allergies to fragrance, and food allergies and also have a cpap machine. And Hallux, if you could find out (my cabin will be 11519) what the white space is and also the mattress cover situation, that would rock!
  10. I'm trying to figure out what the white space is in this picture. I circled it in red. Is that a door to the Studio cabins or is it just where the hallway turns? Also, if anyone knows the answer to this, I would be very appreciative: Do they have 6-sided zippered encasements on the mattresses or just the fitted 5-sided ones? Or worse, nothing at all on the mattresses beneath the bed sheets. I have allergies, so I need to know if I have to bring my own stuff.
  11. I know it's not allowed when there are foreign ports, but because PoA is all in the US and is a US ship, it's possible. However, call NCL to make sure it would be allowed.
  12. I had to update NCL to my middle name, as well, to match my passport. And, to be safe, I checked my United airlines account and had to add it there, too. Better to do it all now than to be stopped at TSA.
  13. I would think that as long as you wait your turn (or let any kids go before you do), it would be fine for adults to go on the slides. If I feel brave, I might do it, and I'm a senior citizen.
  14. Yeah, combining it with some of the free holiday days off.
  15. He doesn't want any sea days. He gets upset if a cruise has more than 1 sea day. My options are limited. He also only has 5 vacation days to work with.
  16. The Na'Pali was amazing from a helicopter. On the flight I was on, we went over the Waimea Canyon, by the Na'Pali coast and then inside Mount Waialeale, where it was amazing to see goats and sheep perched on teeny cliffs. I'm trying to convince my husband that it will be great. I also did enjoy taking a catamaran to the Na'Pali coast and snorkeling. There are also sunset dinner cruises and adventure rafts to the coast. There might be enough time for the truly adventurous to do the Kalalau Trail, but you need reservations and gear and to be in really good condition. And not afraid of heights. But it's the true Na'Pali experience, for sure. You can also do the Kalalau Lookout at Waimea Canyon and see that part of the Na'Pali. The valley and the jagged mountains are dramatic. Fog-dependent, of course. For @cruiseny4life : Yeah, I know the flights are short, but it still means we lose part of a day to travel, since we have to drive to the airport, go through TSA, wait at the gate, fly, get to the next hotel and so forth. If he had more vacation days, I might be tempted, but the PoA cruise is a decent way to give him a sample of the 4 basic islands in the shortest amount of time.
  17. I offered that to my husband, since our deposit is refundable and I haven't made any other payments. I've been to Hawaii twice with a previous husband and done Na'Pali by helicopter, catamaran snorkel and also partial Kalalau Trail, so for me, it's not huge, although I did get a cabin on the port side for this purpose. But my current husband, who hasn't been to Hawaii, doesn't want to do multiple airplanes and multiple hotels; He wants the cruise, even just as a floating Best Western. 🙂
  18. I wondered how long it would take for the email to come to us. Our sailing is February 24, 2024: "Dear Valued Guests, On behalf of Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), we thank you for your loyalty and for making us your vacation of choice. We have important information regarding your upcoming sailing. We ask Travel Partners to share this information with impacted guests. We are committed to providing the best vacations at sea and exceptional guest experiences while driving a positive impact on society and the environment. As part of our global sustainability program, Sail & Sustain, we are continually seeking opportunities to reduce our overall carbon footprint. As such, we have altered Pride of America's seven-day Hawaii Inter-Island itinerary from January 6, 2024, through and including December 28, 2024 by extending the scheduled overnight call to Nawiliwili, Kauai, allowing you more time to enjoy this tropical paradise.." At least this gives me a while to find what Na'Pali excursion we want.
  19. If this was actually about the environment, there wouldn't be cruises at all.
  20. I did the NCL chat and spoke to August. August says: This promo code (LATDBLX.) 3 night and more for each day you will receive (2) latitude points So for my 7 day NCL Escape, I would get 14 points.
  21. I looked at my booking for the Escape to NE/Canada for September 2023, but I just have the LATDBLX, which I assume means I get my 1 usual point and then 1 additional for 2 Latitude points a night or 14 for the 7 day cruise. I booked a Studio, so maybe that's it.
  22. Wow. Which 2 cruises are offering the triple points? As mentioned the Latitudes Insider page is disappointing.
  23. Do you recall if it had someone making eggs/omelets to order or was it just the pre-made eggs and things in the metal bins?
  24. I knew at about what age we'd be able to cruise more, both time and money-wise. My husband and I love NCL, so in March 2020, when the market crashed, I bought 100 shares and crossed my fingers that NCL doesn't go bankrupt before I can do a few cruises. It's good to know about the way it looks split in the cabin. We'll make sure to use only one credit card.
  25. I tried looking but haven't seen how the Free At Sea Dining applies to Moderno, since that one doesn't generally have the appetizer, salad, etc.
