  1. Not sure about how long the refund takes to process and show on your credit card or if they will send you a check for the difference. I might just be of a suspicious nature, but, I would contact Princess again and request an e-mail with the updated booking info for any change made. Does the change with the lower price show in your cruise personalizer under the Payments and Credits tab? If not, call Princess. Again because of my suspicious nature I would print out and save all documentation showing the old and new prices so you have proof should there be a problem receiving your refund.

Just called and had them resend the email. So I now have the confirmation.

They will refund the difference but it will take 7-10 days.

    Thanks for the help.

  2. Go to the Anchor Steam brewery. For breakfast go to Sears, 439 Powell St just up from Union Square. Look at "Wild San Francisco" walking tours. We did the China Town tour last year and it was great fun. I want to do the Haight and Castro tour next year. Take the Alcatraz tour, but book in advance.

The Wild SF Tours looks fun. Thank You!

  3. We are doing a 15 day Hawaii Cruise out of San Francisco and between before and after the Cruise we have 3 1/2 days to explore.

Since my wife has never been to SF, some of that time will be taken up by the touristy stuff.

But I am looking for suggestions as to which Breweries and Beer Pubs I should add to the list.

We will be there In late March and the first weekend in April. I know the Giants will be in town that weekend, so I may need to stay away from that area on April 7-8.

    Thanks in Advance!

  4. It's hard to talk about beer in SF without mentioning Anchor - far and away the most historic brewery. Fortunately they offer more than just the less-than-spectacular Steam Beer that they're most famous for (compared to US macro beer it's a toothsome brew, but palates have changed a lot in over a century!)

Unfortunately since we don't get to SF anywhere near often enough to keep up with changes in the breweries I'm loathe to say that X or Y is the best. I much prefer to visit a good independent beer bar than a brewpub, where we can sample a range of different breweries all at once - Monk's Kettle, Mikeller, or the Beer Hall should all give you enough options to get nicely buzzed (although I have to admit that on our last trip - an overnight cruise stop - we didn't drink a single CA beer and instead went to Rogue's SF outpost!)

    Thanks for the tips!

  6. If this is your first time to Hawaii, you may not want to rent a car and try to do things on your own the first time out. It is hard to recommend things to do, without knowing what type of activities you like, or what you want to see there.

You may want to start with the Princess excursion booklet to see what they offer. They will be offering things that can be done within the allotted time in port. That is not to say you have to book excursions with them, but it will give you a starting point for the popular things to do. You could always book independent tours going to the same places if certain things interest you.

The first few land based trips I did to Hawaii had structured tours to many of the sights on all the islands. That laid the groundwork for exploring on our own for later trips. Just know, that visiting by cruise ship will only give you a small taste of the islands.

I don't think I would ever rent a car on Oahu. It is so easy to get around on the BUS, and you do not have to deal with parking.

Make Duke's one of your stops for a place to eat and drink, and try the Hula Pie. As far as local beers, it is hard to tell what is local anymore. Kona Brewing has several, but they brew a lot of it here on the mainland. In fact, I think you can get one of them at BJ's Brewhouse north of the Ross Park Mall ( I see you are from Pittsburgh).

Anyhow, enjoy your planning and your trip. And Go Pens. Here is hoping for a 3 Peat.

Thanks for the tips! I have a client that lives on Oahu and she gave us a very detailed run down of places to go given our limited time. I figure we have six months to build an itinerary, so the more tips and recommendations the better.

Oh, and Let's go Pens!! I think the last day of the season is our last day on the cruise.

  7. M107 is a fabulous Mini-Suite. The best we ever sailed in. Great having a separate bedroom with a huge picture window facing forward. While the forward facing balcony is huge it can sometimes be tough to sit outside while at sea due to the wind. However It was great for sail away and entry into ports especially being able to see forward, aft and port side from the top of the bridge wing. Grab it if available !!!

I second this. We had M107 for Barcelona to Rome and it was magnificent!

  8. Grand Hyatt is a very nice hotel in a good location.

But there are a lot of very nice hotels in good locations in SF. What kind of info did you need?

How many nights in each case?

As I said in the other post the Stanford Court is a great hotel, but you have to Uber pretty much everyplace because it is up on top of the hill and therefore not very walkable.

If you have multiple nights pre and post cruise I'd keep the Stanford Court for one stay and something in Union Square for the other. If it is one night each stay, just keep the Stanford Court.

We arrive in the morning the day before our Hawaii cruise. We are staying there after we get off the ship and leave on a red-eye the following night.
