  1. We have a reservation for a 9/14 Pacific Coastal on the solstice. It’s not a typical itinerary, Seattle to Vancouver with stops in Astoria, San Francisco and Victoria. What is everyone’s thoughts on this itinerary? I’m having second thoughts and final payment is Friday!

Personally I love all those areas and would rather fly to Seattle rent a car and drive. You could take a ferry to San Juan islands as well. I guess it just depends if you would rather cruise.

  2. We have taken many cruises on different lines and around ten on Celebrity ships. On our last cruise, a transatlantic with seven days at sea, there were many informational seminars scheduled: skin care, pain management, healthy eating, foot care, taking care of your back and spine, etc. I attended some of these, and each one did some heavy selling of products or scheduling spa time. The prices were ridiculous! I admit I spent $500 for two acupuncture sessions to help my aching shoulder and they pushed me to sign up for five treatments for over $1,000, which I did not do. The acupuncturist assured me that Medicare would pay for acupuncture treatments which turned out not to be true. Some people signed up for thousands of dollars of health foods, to be delivered to their homes over a period of months. They have a captive audience on a ship and those sales pitches are very convincing. So just be aware.

Why would anyone do any of these things on a cruise ship?

They can’t even do a decent manicure let alone a medical treatment!

  3. My husband and I are flying into FLL for our April cruise.

Airlines that release their fares 330 days prior have release their schedule and the cost of flying is crazy ridiculous. Anywhere from $600 to $1100.

I am hoping that Southwest will be less. On June 28 they are releasing flights through March. Anyone know when, historically, they will release for April?

    Thanks!

Be patient, we booked February 2018 for April 2018 cruise and paid $296 round trip from SFO to Miami.

  4. We are booked on The Reflection next month and would like to know if anyone has taken the shore excursion offered by Celebrity that includes a visit to the Sagrada Familia? Does a visit mean we get to go inside? Once inside, does it include an audio guided tour, a tour guide guided tour or walk around on your own? There's not enough detail given in the tour description and I want to make sure that we actually get to go inside and are guided in some way. Am I better off not taking this excursion and buying my own skip the line tickets with a guided tour on the Sagrada Familia online site? Would appreciate any suggestions...thanks

As in another post I would do Hop On Hop Off bus you will have stops near many Gaudi sights and if you can purchase skip the line tickets do so. the lines get very long. Whatever you do don't miss it.

  5. ghstudio's suggestion is good. You might take it a step further and actually download Google "offline" maps to your phone. It's just one more step. We used them in every city we visited over a 28-day trip from Gibraltar to Rhodes!

Little known fact: You can use your phone in port with GPS on the offline maps WITHOUT using data or having wi-fi access.

Set up your phone as follows to prevent unwanted data charges. As long as you maintain all of these settings, you shouldn't incur any data charges. Settings vary by phone.

    • Turn off data: Phone Settings > Data Usage > Cellular Data.
    • Turn off data roaming: Phone Settings > Data Usage > Settings > Cellular Networks > Data Roaming.
    • Turn on Airline mode. (Very important that this is always on the entire trip).
    • Turn on Wi-Fi (when desired).
    • And of course turn on GPS (when desired).

If you're curious about our trip, I posted it here: http://www.lavasurfer.com/info/eastern-mediterranean.html

    It's very detailed.

Thank you for the information. another reason I love Cruise Critic!

  6. Hi, we are off on the Constellation in August, our first time on an M class ship.

We have one of the large Concierge Class Aft cabins. The balcony looks huge and we are thinking that one night after a busy day we might like to just relax, enjoy the balcony and have our meal there. Is it still possible to order a meal from the restaurant's main menu or would we have to stick to the cabin service menu?

We've also read somewhere that the ship also had one of the new Edge type cabins with the infinity balcony. Are we able to visit that to take a look as we are booked on Edge in one of these cabins next year and are really curious to see what it is like.

    Thanks

We are sailing on her August 30 from Venice. We haven't been on M Class ship in 13 years.

  7. Are there generally taxis available at the Port of Catania? What is the fare from th port to the bus station? I know its only a mile, but the last time we were there it was very hot and humid so the walk was a little rough.

  8. We will be in the port of Catania from 7-4. We would like to take public bus to Taormina, is this possible? Where is the bus station and how far from port?

How much time should we allow in Taormina and what time to catch return bus?

I know a lot of questions but in my research I could not find the answers I need or information was very old.

  9. We would not normally consider a flight before 11, but it is possible to make a 10am flight...if you assume you can be off the ship and in your transportation by 6:15. Our favorite means of transport is Romecabs.com...but you will pay extra to have a car/driver that early in the morning.

If you do try it, you would be well advised to use Express Disembarkation where you carry off all of your own luggage.

    Thank you

  10. We have been sailing on Celebrity solstice class ship for the past 7 years, but this year because of itinerary we are sailing on the Constellation. I'm worried about closet space.

Does any one have a photo of the closet? I think there are drawers in closet but how many?

Also beside the section of closet with safe and drawers are there 2 additional closet spaces? Any help will be appreciated so I know what to expect.

  11. We were on the ship in September and I wrote about how we did not enjoy the entertainment and the staff did not seem very interested.

This cruise was quite the opposite. Could be because the new captain Kate has injected some energy about the ship and we experienced a new cruise director Maarten.

Overall we had a brilliant time with music acts around the ship being really good especially the house band [The Badness] whose sets really complimented the cruise. The other house band Nu Image were very good and so was the young girl who mostly played in Ensemble Sashi. I still have the opinion that too many production shows on board.

New Orleans was a blast and we docked right next to the Riverview Shopping Mall making it very easy to walk or grab the trolley.

    Excellent Cruise.

I agree great cruise with a few exceptions. I wish they would have skipped Freeport, total waste of a day. Captain Kate was wonderful! Little disagreement in the entertainment we thought house bands were much better for the September cruise. We followed both bands at all. Their venues in September ,this time not at all.i do agree the production shows were not good and were exactly the same on September cruise. It’s too bad they are not repeating New Orleans those were the best days.

  12. Since Croatia is not in Euro, I was wondering if anybody has thoughts about getting a small amount of Kronos. We will have euro and if we do any shopping will likely use credit card. We expect just to explore areas near the port and just use cash to buy food for lunch and snacks or small kinck knacks on small shops who may not take credit cards.

We will be in Dubrovnik for one day and split for another day.

Do I need Kronos? I was thinking of just getting around $75 for a party of 4. Is that enough?

    Thanks

We used credit card at a local bar but at ice cream shop we needed Kunas.
