  1. This is our first time on celebrity. We love Princess. My favorite thing on Princess is the Pizza and the Fettuccine Alfredo. What do I have to look forward to on Celebrity next week. Ready....Go!

It depends which class ship you are on. We love the Solstice class ships. Lots of storage and larger than average size bathrooms. We also think Celebrity's quality of food is better than most.

    Have fun!

  2. Jordaan doesnot offer much choice in hotels, it is and was mostly houses and apartments for the people.

However with the help of expedia I found this for you.

    http://www.expedia.nl/Jordaan-Amsterdam-Hotels.0-n6046532-0.Reisgids-Filter-Hotels

Since Amsterdam is rather compact and walkable most hotels in the center are not that far away.

Also google maps can be a great help to check locations.

PS Amsterdam information doesnot belong on the northern europe but western europe board, you will find also lots of there.

    Thank you so much.

  3. We are going on Splendour of the Seas in September 2015. Our travel plans are to arrive in Venice 3 days before the cruise and stay 1 day after returning from the cruise.

We would like to stay a comfortable distance from the sites and not far away from the port, or at least close to transportation to the port. We will have a fair amount of luggage. We are able to walk distances. We are looking for the Venice experience in a hotel--maybe something rather small. Any ideas?

    Thank You!

Our favorite hotel in Venice is the Hotel Commercio Pelligrino. Very close to San Marco and steps away from Vaporetto stop ( perfect when you have to haul your luggage. Reasonable rates, also has elevator and includes breakfast.

  4. I am also interested in things to see in Civitiveccia and not, Tarquinia.

Most recommend Tarquinia. Is there not anything to see in the town of Civitiveccia?

No there really isn't anything in Civitavecchia, we walked to town then back along the beach we were back to the ship before noon.

  5. We do not want to go into Rome as we will be doing this post cruise.

Any thoughts or suggestions on what to do in and or around this port from 7-7.

We did a private tour with Rome in Limo tours from Civitavecchia to the hill towns of Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoregio. Beautiful towns!

You can find more info on these towns in Ricks Steve's Italy Hill Towns book.

  6. We just booked Med cruise for Sept 2015. I logged into Captains Club clicked the cruise we had chosen and it showed a $750 discount per our chosen cabin. I was not able to complete reservation on line so called Celebrity, they said I would not receive both Captains Club discount and the 123 offer, I would have to choose one or the other.

Is this how this offer works ?

  7. My husband have been looking at the various European itineraries. I originally wanted to book the Barcelona to Venice 12 night, however this is no longer offered by Celebrity. We are considering 10- 12 night itineraries and would like to include Venice, Florence, Rome and Greek islands. I have been to Europe but my husband hasn't. Also, does anyone have any ideas for pre or post cruise 3-4 day tours of Italy since we don't want to take our luggage on the trains and prefer not to rent a car. Thanks in advance.

We have done many different itineraries hard to say favorite. I think you have to pick a few favorite ports and then try to find cruise to fit.

We love Venice, Barcelona, Dubrovnik, Mykonos, Santorini.

If you start or end in Barcelona definitely spend 3 or 4 days there, same if you begin or end in Rome or Venice. These all deserve extra days.

You could do easy day trips from Rome, this way you would use Rome as your base.

  8. We arrive in port at 7 AM and depart 7 PM.

Thanks everyone for information. It doesn't look like we would be able to do this on this trip. I would do rental car but as was said not a good idea on a Sunday.

Would consider sharing a shore excursion but most people on our cruise are doing Rome and we have been there 4 times.

  9. Not surprised that the islands of the Med were included. We did the Med tour many years ago. Did Barcelona and Italy. We personally have been to Italy many times as I want to retire there for a year or two. But Greece has been on my mind for years.

Thank you all for your input it is so appreciated.

I love these boards and have learned so much about cruising and traveling over the years.

Ditto all the above cruise destination choices, but be sure to pick one of Celebrity's Solstice class ships such as Silhouette or Equinox

The choice of this class of ship along with Mediterranean itinerary will make for a memorable cruise.

  10. We have been researching private tours from the port of Salerno. Many of them include Amalfi, Positano & Ravello. They are less expensive than ships tour but they only stay in each town about 50 minutes. this seems a little rushed.

Has anyone done the Celebrity's tour of Sorrento On Your Own ? This seems more relaxed. Does it follow the coast road?

Unfortunately public transportation from Salerno seems limited. Any suggestions would be welcome.

  11. Celebrity is in the process of transitioning the spa from having Steiner as the vendor to Canyon Ranch. During this transition people have been having difficulty booking appointments online; just head to the spa after you board and book then. I have never seen the spa so busy that they did not have tons of availability for on board booking.

    Thank you

  12. We are on Celebrity Equinox Mediterranean cruise May 8th and when I had tried to make nail appointments several months ago with no results and then when we paid balance and every day and time slot says nothing available. I find that hard to believe.

Is there a minimum amount of days before cruise to make appoinments?

  13. Our family, with 2 teenage boys, will be in Naples on 7/11 and plan to take hydrofoil to Capri and do the Blue Grotto. A friend will meet us there.

Anyone with experience on this please fill me in......

How far is the hydrofoil ferry area from where the ship docks? Is sea sickness really that much of a problem. (one son is a bit senstive)

Recommendations on the best way to do the BLUE GROTTO with 5 people?

    Other recommendations for CAPRI?

    Beaches?

THE LEMON TREE restaurant was recommended.

    THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The water from Naples to Capri is can be a little rough. 2 suggestions make sure he has something for sea sickness and maybe goes outside if he can.

Not sure what ports you are visiting but if you are going to Malta the blue Grotto there is much better than Capri. The water in Capri can be iffy and you may get to the grotto and may not be able to go in if the waves are too high.

  14. This is just the sort of thread I was looking for to plan a day in Capri. Thank you! Does Celebrity dock close to the Naples ferry terminal? We will be there on June 12th. Will it be the high tourist season with the accompanying crowds on that date?

You are very lucky if you are docking in Naples most of the itineraries have changed to docking in Salerno which is much more difficult for transportation.

As to your question the ferry docks are virtually next door to cruise ship terminals.

  15. Tried to do a search, but I keep getting an error message so decided to ask the experts here.

We will be on the Connie in March & have Select Dining. In the past when we've had this on other cruise lines, we were in larger groups so always just requested a table for the whole group. This time, there will only be 3 of us. We would like to be seated at large tables so we can meet & interact with more people. Not sure how this works on Celebrity. Would someone please explain the process to me? Thanks so much.

We sailed Silhouette last year. After making final payment I went into manage our reservation to reserve a few specific dining times and was able to request the size of table we wanted. Then during the cruise even on the nights we hadn't reserved, they sat us at the same size table. You can also request table size when you enter the dining room.

    Good Luck

  16. Hi everybody,

I just finished my lengthy review of our 3 week European vacation which included a 3 day stay in Rome before our cruise started. We spent 12 days on board the Silhouette visiting Naples, Malta, Kusadasi, Athens, Rhodes, Santorini, Mykonos, Crete and Venice. After disembarking in Venice, we rented a car and spent 2 more days exploring Tuscany and Umbria before flying back to the US from Rome.

    We had a wonderful time.

I documented everything in our travel blog

    http://pandbtraveladventures.blogspot.com

I took lots of pictures. The tabs on the left side of the blog indicate the dates we visited the ports. Click the tab and the page will open.

    Hope it is useful

Thank you for the review and pictures. Lots of great tips.

What model Garmin Nuvi do you have and how did you download it? I am electronically challenged.

  17. Thanks. We are unsure about what to do so this is good info.

We love Sorrento, but it looks like if we wish to go there we would have to sign up for tour that would include Pompei ( been there done that ). We too like to do things on our own but it looks like transportation to Sorrento isn't easy from Salerno. You can take the boat from Salerno to Amalfi then transfer to Sorrento but boasts might not be running yet. Not sure about bus/

We like Sorrento because it is a little easier to walk around, some of the other Amalfi coast towns require a lot of stairs and uphill climbs.
