  1. so there was a drug bust on the allure that weekend. 2 guys were arrested trying to bring drugs on the ship on Sunday the 3rd. This mat have been posted, i didnt read every page.

There was a drug bust but it wasn’t on the Allure. They intended to board the Allure, but they were careless and pretty stupid and got caught. Thank goodness.

If you think the search violated your rights and was illegal, by all means file suit and have your day in court.  No one else can feel embarrassment for you, only you can feel embarrassment for yourself.  What do you have to feel embarrassed about?  Full public display?  In front fo 10, 20 or 30 total strangers?  Had I been passing by your hallway at the time I wouldn't have given the incident more than a passing thought.  Life presents daily challenges and I have more important things to deal with than a guy in a hallway in a robe.  Move along, this incident isn't worth any further consideration, IMHO.

    Wow 😮

    Another heartless individual!

I would thank you for your response but that would be dishonest.  😄

I appreciate you being strong enough to let fellow cruisers know about your experiences.  I have learned a lot on CC over the years and appreciate knowing what may happen on a  cruise vacation.  It's sometimes difficult wading through the "mud" on some threads.   I truly feel for you and your partner and hope for happy sailings in the future.

Well it’s been a ride.  A few of you subscribed to my YouTube channel so it wasn’t a total disaster. 😄. Thanks everyone.

One take away from  your post, if someone knocks on my door and the peep hole is covered, I'm not opening it till I get dressed and I all security on the phone. (partially a stalling tactic till I get dressed.) Not a criticism of how you responded in anyway.

My spouse opened the door. He thought it was our friends from down the hall horsing around.

Yes, the one with the big deck.  We had 12629 December 2017 for two weeks. I think I participated in that thread

BTW, folks can also look through your posting history and glean information.

That cruising profile banner never updates. I cannot seem to get it to go to 28. I’ve deleted it and re-added and it says 26 still. Frustrating 🤪

Can you at least TRY to stay on topic? This post had NOTHING to do with everyone disembarking or embarking and all the bags of almost 10,000 passengers coming and going through security on the dock!! This is about guests being in their CABINS and armed guards and dogs opening all your belongings, ripping out everything you had neatly packed to move cabins and being humiliated as you were forced to stand in a hallway in a bathrobe and barefoot as guests and crew pass by not knowing if you deserved the treatment or not!! Clearly for YOU it really is that hard to understand.

Thanks for your understanding. You seem to get the point of the post. I’m getting exhausted defending everything. People tend to knit pick things. I hesitated to post this and I’m starting to regret it. Sigh.

Perhaps you are unaware that former US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was once physically patted down by the TSA at Chicago O'Hare in July 2011.  Surely when TSA inspected his ID they knew who he was.  The fact that you are a trusted traveller and have had security clearances is irrelevant to law enforcement agencies.

This is law enforcement doing their job.  Your belongings were searched and you answered a few questions.  You were not detained for a significant period of time.  I see no reason for you to feel embarrassed.  Law enforcement does not have to explain to you what prompted the search.

This episode seems like no big deal to me.  If you travel long enough and often enough these things happen.  If this is the worst incident that happens during your travels I think you are doing well.

    Wow 😮

I actually was pulled out of of the shower and stood in a bathrobe on full public display. You think I wasn’t embarrassed? Your post is heartless to say the least.

Cruise Critic can be exhausting. Yikes!

For some reason Mike I think you hit the nail with this comment. B2B cruisers were most likely looked at more carefully for this factor, perhaps after last year’s death on Harmony. I think I also read about others caught in the past trying to get “the goods” on board the ship on embarkation day.

We have done 2 back to backs and have not had this type of treatment.  That being said, someone of nefarious actions might think that they are slipping something past the law. Perhaps this type of individual might have brought drugs on board when they originally boarded or picked up them up in a port of call, to sell the following week.

Trickie Dickie, we were on the same sailing as you for your week one. Lisa and I would have gladly tipped one back with you in the pub. We had a few good laughs watching Matt Yee a few nights preparing for week two, in the Schooner Bar. Sorry you had to go through all that.

I remember back in the day when you did cruise reviews. Fully enjoyed them. Side note, I drove through the Peg many a time on my way to Western Canada or back to Ontario. I could always spot the landfill on the by-pass, the highest spot in town. 😉

Matt’s room was raided as well.

I'd say this has everything to do with the Atlantis cruise.  This is not the norm and I have trouble believing the steward said this happens weekly.  We've been on 26 cruises and have done one b2b.  We've never seen any room raided, ever.  It happens, but not that often.

Also, OP said something about their current clearances and their "former career".  The two don't go together.  Clearances go away when you're no longer working in that field.  But, that doesn't really matter, they can and will search whoever they need to.  Wouldn't "scare" me in the least to have my cabin searched as they would never find anything.  As for the poster whose afraid to come here, then don't.  You really need to do some real research.  There are many countries that I'd be much more afraid of than the US.  And, quit believing the "news" source you're watching.  Aquahound is correct.

We have a friend who worked CPB and believe me, they find a lot more than they don't.  They have good instincts and are very professional for the most part.  They do use interrogation tactics.  They have to.  People lie to them all the time.

I guess you’re the security clearance expert. 😄

OP, sorry this happened to you....I would be more than mad if it happened to me.

    Just thinking....

At the airport, when a dog hits on a bag/luggage...then they get a warrant and search it. (ok, let's forget about 4th Amendment rights for a moment...it may not apply on a cruise ship...or does it?)

Dogs are trained to sniff different things...bombs, drugs, plants, etc....and when they get a hit...they jump up and down and bark at the spot or item.

It sounds like they (people that searched your cabin) told you the dog hit "AFTER" they searched your cabin and when they were interviewing you and your partner...is this correct?

Did you ask exactly where the dog hit?  (It would be the first thing out of my mouth because if the dog hit on something in my cabin....I would like to know where.)

Did they find anything?  What explanation did they (ship security/guest relations/CBP) give to you as to why your cabin was searched?  Did you hear if anything was found from other passengers/cabins?

Can't even imagine having to spend the time having to re-pack and organize all your belongings to move to another cabin.  This event is just way over the top with the number of LEO's involved to search a small cabin, two passengers, and guessing no weapons.  Just like other posters said...we've never seen this and hope it never happens to us.

Last question: Did RCCL compensate you or the other passengers for all the trouble and embarrassment?

I didn’t ask anything except what the dog hits on. I answered questions. Royal Caribbean doesn’t owe me any compensation as they didn’t do this.

9 officers and a dog does not sound like a random search. That’s a lot of resource for one room. They also typically don’t go to that extreme looking for casual users. This sounds like something more. Could it have been a training exercise? Did they scrutinize the personal identification as well?

They never asked for our ID.

They randomly chose a few B2B passengers. The rest of the departing passengers went through customs with luggage, and the new passengers had to have their luggage scanned ad well.  I don't think you are getting that part.

It was half the B2B passengers, not a few. I don’t think you read my entire post. This wasn’t my first B2B. It’s never happened before.

Right.. but you said you were on a B2B so this was between the non Atlantis cruise, and the Atlantis cruise, correct?

Maybe with the problems they have had in the past, they wanted to make sure the B2B people were not trying to avoid heightened security at the time of embarkation for the Atlantis cruise, by circumventing the normal boarding process? In other words, people could have brought on drugs the week before with less scrutiny. I don't know this is what happened... but seems plausible.

If this was the case then it wasn’t a random search. That would be a targeted search.    We were told that it was a random routine search.   Our state room attendant concurred indicating this happens often.
