We never take a debit card, in fact after having a checking account being totally whipped out, we no longer possess one. Two years ago when we did an extensive road trip, we did did prepaid Visa cards that in no way tied to any other accounts. I may do this for our April trip.
We do have Capital One accounts with no foreign transaction fees. The Chase Milage Plus card also has no Foreign transaction fees. I agree with the post above, you need some Foreign currency for items you may want in small towns. I know the rate may be higher, but I always get my monies prior to leaving home. I then have funds form tips upon arrival at my destination. The last thing I want to do is have to think about monies and conversion rates after a long flight. Decide what you are comfortable with.
We do take cash, but a limited amount. This will be my 9th trip to Europe.

Susan:
This is also our 1st river cruise. If you go into AMA's website,I think it is under things you need to know prior to cruising, it will tell you what tips are expected. We will get three currencies for countries we visit. I will order what I think we need prior to leaving the States, I try and calculate tips, and gifts to see how much we will need.

What is the configuration of recessed plug at desk? I have these two plugs. White is Apple, and black is one that connects to transformer. Will I need extension for outlet at desk with these plugs?
Thanks for all you help

Thanks! Used to travel with a power stripe, however Celebrity has confiscated them twice so no longer bring them. I have a small three plug adapter which I will take. This has survived Celebrity's security.

Thanks for the photos. In recent years, particularly on RC, amenities have been down graded and some eliminated. I would, as stated before, prefer not to have to pack lotions and shampoos.

Thanks, for all. I think I have all the plugs we will need. With all of the electronics we take, great to get a heads up of number of outlets. Also on the amenities. Having not to take lotions and shampoos, etc, is good. Again, thanks.

We sail in April. We are in an A+ cabin. Looking for some info. In the baths what kind of amenities do they offer? (Body Lotions, separate shampoo and separate conditioners, shower gels?) We are on the AMAdante, I believe the plugs are European? How many plugs are provided? I do have converters.
Thanks!
Sandy

Does anyone know when tickets can be ordered on line to tour Parliament in April?

There are many free tours for are sailing in April, however I really am looking forward to some of the optional tours. I thought most of the prices were reasonable.

I can understand. The only way I was aware of the optional tours was because when I booked Feb 1st they were listed on the detailed itinerary. I have called twice as well as my TA with questions about excursions. We are on the land and sailing on the Amadante (legendary Danube) April 17th. The optional tour I wanted, and they still offer are the following:
Prague-Folklore Dinner and to city of Terezin
Passat-Linz-Trip to Salzburg
Melk-Vienna-Mozart Strauss Concert
I believe there is also one in Vienna, and there may be one in Budapest.
Call AMA question what they will offer on your sailing. They should be able to tell you. I really wanted to go to Salzburg. It is a sham they have removed the excursions. You cannot book them until you arrive.

If you have booked an AMA sailing in recent months or are considering one, you might want to call and speak with one of AMA's reps. Since we booked the first of February, they have changed their web site on a least three different occasions. There are some great and reasonable optional tours they offer which are not showing in the itinerary section of their site. When we booked, the optional excursions were listed. They still offer most of them, but do not list them.

We are doing the legendary Danube in April. We are doing the pre cruise with AMA. The thing I considered prior to booking last Feb was if AMA changed departure ports for some reason, it might ne difficult to change transportation to a new port at the last minute from Prague.

Rent a car. Several agencies at Port Canaveral. No drop fee in Orlando. We live in area and always rent a car when going to airport.

Thank you doktor for making this post! We are booked on the same trip that you are, however, we have booked it through the Silvestryn winery in Napa Valley. Just a few extra wine dinners and tastings. We have also cruised many ocean cruises but never on a river. We are flying on Thursday the 14th from Detroit to Prague to have three nights on our own in a Marriott as we had points to cash in. I was able to find a private driving company that quoted me US$170 in a town car to pick us up at our hotel and take us to the ship. Did this to say we booked that! I would be happy to pass information along if anyone would like it.
Enjoying all of your posts! Does anyone have any idea what to expect for weather in mid April?
Carmel:
Are you on the AMASerena or the AMADante? We are on the AMADante. The river sailing starts April 20th from Nuremberg. We have 3 nights in Prague with AMA prior to the sailing. Are you on this cruise or the April 17th sailing which sails from Vilshofen?

Glad Carmel your onboard. We also fly on the 14th. We fly Orlando to Frankfurt and then on to Prague. We are staying in AMA hotel(have to look up name). AMA is also providing transportation to hotel with a cost, but I think, less than you are paying. We will also stay 3 nights in Budapest at the end.
Weather to us wii be chilly. It has been awhile sense I have looked at what I have planned and the details. If I remember correctly weather will be anywhere from high 30's to low 70's. My direct email is Jim816@aol.com. We live in North Melbourne, Fl. Looking forward to chatting!

Cruising the Danube - First Time!

We generally book airfare on our own. It may be more expensive, but we like to be in control. We wants flights with the shortest times, and the least amount of connections. We usually arrive well before our booked cruise. This April we will arrive two days early in Prague, and we will stay three nights after in Budapest. We have booked AMA hotels and transfers. We will have a total of 5 nights in Prague and 5 nights in Budapest. We will have three day each on our own. We speak no foreign language, however we have found English to be spoken wherever we have traveled. I also have a translator app on my IPad and phone as well as a money converter. We will do two private tours with Tour by Locals prior to connecting with AMA. We will do private tours with Gabriella Torok in Budapest. We are hopeful to do Parliament in Budapest on our own.
