News item from Cruise Critic:
AmaWaterways Adds New Life to its Chefs Table
AmaWaterways has revamped the menu in its 28-person Chef's Table restaurant. The reinvented concept will feature a true tasting menu, with three appetizers, a sorbet intermezzo, three main courses and three desserts. The restaurant will continue to have a demonstration kitchen where passengers can watch the chefs prepare food, as well as regional wine pairings. The Chef's Table is included in the fare.
Thanks for the update!

Just curious, what is considered "GOOD COVERAGE"?
I ask as different people look to cover different things, such as:
Cancel
Cancel for any reason
Missed sailing
Missed or cancelled flight
Trip interruption
Lost Luggage
Health Insurance
Medical Evacuation
Life Insurance
And when you buy, are you looking for all of these, or just some of them (costs vary)
In order of importance:
1. You did not Include: Coverage for pre existing conditions
2. Medical Evacuation (Policy taken for April 2017 is $1,000,000.00)
3. Health Insurance (I want Primary Coverage, “Not Secondary”)
4. Cancel after final payment
5. Trip Interruption
6. Missed or cancelled flight & Missed Sailing (generally not a concern as we usually arrive at our embarkation destination at least a day in advance, or more)
7. Lost Luggage (Usually coverage will not begin to cover what is in a suitcase)
8. Life Insurance (If this comes with policy, OK, but if not I would not pay for it)
9. Cancel for Any Reason
I really do not care if policy covers from 6-9. Generally when you choose primary coverage, you will automatically be cover with the other items plus Car Rental Insurance. I like this company better http://www.QuoteWright.com than insuremytrip. I have used Quotewright in the past but now just go to Travel Insured. I have had several minor claims with Travel Insured in the past, and have gotten immediate response, and quick payment. They are one of the few companies that offer primary coverage.

There are many things I considered . I am in my 70's and husband in late 60's. I WANT GOOD COVERAGE! I buy primary coverage most offered are secondary. It is not cheap-better to be safe than sorry. I use Tavel Insured, and usually buy my own insurance . On occasions, if my travels are only in the states or on a Caribbean Cruise I will talk TA offerings.

In Budapest it is rude to leave tips on table.

You might want to check with Ama. We sail in April and we too were at the International Continental. Our TA notified us last Monday of the change. It was just after I finished arrangements for a couple of private tour. Oh well, I certainly have time to notify the tour company

AMAwaterway has just switched to a new hotel opening in Sept. The Cosmopolitan! It is in Old Town.

I would also like to know which Spa you visited. At this point, via photos on line, I like Rudas. Anyone had experience with this bath house.

Beware! If you encounter rough waster the draws in cabins will not stay closed. Hard to sleep with banging drawers! Finally duck taped on the Infinity while sailing in April, cabin 1141
. Many used towels.

I got a quote from Viking for a similar date and cruise. When the Viking representative stated final payment was due over 9 months in advance for April 2017,I said good bye!

Looking forward to your posts. We are doing the Legendary Danube April 17th. Will more than likely Leave States, April 15th and then spend 3 days at the end in Budapest. We booked, on the Amadante, 2nd Floor, I think cabin 238.

Can you come back and tell us about your river cruise from a first time cruiser and the difference from an ocean cruise. Please tell us where it is.
Yes, please come back and share your experience.

Welcome

Thanks

It looks like the weather in mid to late April will be chilly by Florida standards. Should we spend one or two nights extra in Budapest?

We did Amsterdam to Budapest with AMA. My only regret, and my bad, was we did not stay an extra day in Budapest. We had an included excursion with AMA but there is so much more to see and wished we added a day. Otherwise, our AMA experience was perfect! We are booked on their Provence and Spain this year and adding the pre cruise Paris and post cruise Barcelona.
Yes, it is much different on the roll call vs ocean cruising roll calls. However, I did correspond with a great couple from Australia on our prior rivercruise on a roll call. We felt like we knew them all our lives before we met them. So, there is a chance!
I thought , out of the Rhine, Main and Danube we cruised, the Danube is the prettiest and had a lot to offer. Enjoy your cruise! You will surely want to do several more.
I plan on stay an extra day in Budapest. Thanks for the suggestions.

Travel Insurance

We have Medicare advantage, but I can just image all the paper work required to get them to cover. Remember most travel polices are not primary, thus you have to get your US policy to pay first. I have have dealt with insurance claims in the USA with my deceased husband. I would hate to have to deal with our insurance (addition to Medicare) when your out of the country. Most insurance companies will question large claims.
