  1. Hi all,

Thought I would update you on my search for formal clothes for my QV cruise. I was walking past a store in my local shopping centre yesterday when the announced a sale on last seasons formal clothes.

I purchased 1 dress, not long but in between in a lace fabric, 1 sparking red top and jacket, and 1 long black skirt. The amazing thing was the price! All reduced dramatically to about 10% of their original price! I asked why and was told, their HO told them to clear because summer stock was about to arrive! Can't believe my luck!:D So now with my other cruise clothes I am ready to go!

  2. I am amazed at the wealth of information I have received from starting this thread.

I am one of those that need to take into consideration a flight at the end of our cruise and also different climates!

I will try and purchase a formal gown (only 1 unfortunately!), but will probably wear twice (). Other than that, cocktail style dresses, two favorite black dresses and a series of skirts (formal) and long trousers combined with formal type tops! Do you all think that will be suitable? Hope so!

Thanks to all for the information:D

  3. I honestly didn't think when I started this thread I would get so many replies. We also have a baggage problem as our cruise starts in Sydney and finishes in Hong Kong so we have a flight one way. I also have seen formal clothes decline on Princess and Royal Caribbean so that is why I asked the question.

I will purchase 1 formal long gown and wear cocktail length dresses the other nights and hope that is acceptable. Problem is finding something suitable for my age!

Looking forward to our first Cunard cruise, just now hoping we look the part!

    Thanks again.

  4. Thank you all for your information. I will look for a long gown and see how I go. I will take my cocktail length dresses of course as they can also double for informal nights.

The dressing up part of a cruise is what we like, but I did not want to purchase a long gown if not necessary! Now the problem is to find something appropriate for my age!

    Thanks again:D

  5. Hi All,

Have booked our first Cunard cruise on Queen Victoria. In our 21 night cruise we have 5 formal nights.

Now we love dressing up BUT having not cruised on Cunard before I do not have any gowns, just many cocktail dresses.

Would this be suitable or should I purchase formal long gowns?

DH has a Tux, so just worried about myself (of course!!!)

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks

  6. Second the above comments. We did 2 cruises on the QV, 1st in bd (deck 5), forward on the hump; second on deck 7, don't recall the letter, both were very good. Would be very happy to do a db again on deck 5.

Thanks all, still not sure whether we should try for a BD on a higher deck. Currently have 5179. We usually have cabins on higher decks. Also , never had an iron or ironing board on Royal Caribbean, always thought they were totally banned.

I am just looking forward to the experience. Cheryle

  7. We have done many cruises on QV and always book this grade of stateroom. They are well positioned and I have never felt too much motion in the room even when the conditions have been quite rough in the Bay of Biscay in the winter time.

The balconies have glass fronts and you have a good view from them.

Enjoy the ship - she's my favourite ship.[/quote

Thank you all so much for the information. As this is our first cruise on Cunard, something we never thought would happen, I appreciate all information. I do hope the experience is something special!:):) We are going a bit our of our comfort zone, being Elite on Princess and Diamond on RCCL.

    Thanks again.

  8. The term "sheltered balcony" refers to the in-hull balconies on decks 4, 5, and 6 of the QM2. These balconies have a metal front that extends from floor to ceiling with a cutout for viewing out. That metal front is actually part of the ship's hull. See this recent thread for pictures of sheltered balconies on the QM2.

    Queen Mary 2 Questions

There are no sheltered balconies per se on QV or QE. The metal fronted balconies I mentioned earlier on deck 4 forward are not considered to be sheltered balconies since the metal fronts on those balconies only extend to the height of the railing, the same height as the glass fronted balconies.

    Regards,

    John.

Thanks again, will stick with the balcony on deck 5. Appreciate your assistance.

    Cheryle

  9. Thanks, zider. Just to make sure we haven't confused the OP, the aft balcony cabins on deck 4 (with the slightly deeper balconies) are actually category BE rather than BD. A relatively minor detail, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

    Regards,

    John.

Hi Can you advise whether the BD balcony is sheltered and it has a glass front?

  10. I think a BD balcony on deck 5 is a pretty good choice. It's convenient to the Britannia restaurant on decks 2-3 directly below. The royal court theater is only a couple decks below as well (though all the way forward). The Lido buffet is only four decks up. A lower aft location tends to be more stable than a higher forward location, so that's an advantage too.

    Regards,

    John.

Thanks again. Your list of past cruises is pretty impressive too, so appreciate the information.

  11. The BD category balcony cabins on deck 5 are glass fronted. The metal fronted balconies on QV are BF category cabins forward on deck 4.

    Regards,

    John.

Thank you for the information. Do you think these balconies are fine or should we be looking for something on a higher deck? The price we have been offered at present here in Australia is amazing so paying slightly more is not a problem. Any assistance appreciated.

  12. Morning,

I have booked a BD balcony and I am just wondering whether the front of the balcony on Deck 5 is glass covered or metal covered. If metal, I think we will change to another deck or category. Can someone please let me know what category balcony I should be looking at for a glass covered balcony. Must pay deposit today, so any assistance is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

  13. Just another question. We are wait listed for a voyage on Queen Mary at the same time. What balcony cabins and grades should we be looking at. I don't think we wanted a sheltered balcony as we will be in Asia, but are open for suggestions, I do think we will have to make this decision tomorrow . Any assistance is appreciated. Ps also should I be concerned about a lower deck balcony and are they all with the steel fronted balcony abd nit glass fronted.

    Thanks again!

  14. Hi,

Curiously, the staterooms on the lower deck with the completely uncovered balconies on the Grand Class ships are mini-suites. Like you, I would not want to have an uncovered balcony. In fact, I am taking a cruise on the Crown Princess from Vancouver later this month and have booked one of the few mini-suites that are on a lower deck aft and have a covered balcony.

In April, I did a transatlantic crossing on the Queen Victoria and had a balcony stateroom (6008) that was located far forward. This balcony was covered.

    Chuck

Thankyou all. This is the reason I asked. As we have sailed a lot on Princess I have been amazed how open some of the better class balconies are uncovered. We only take ME minis because they are covered. It can be just so hot for us either here in Australia or when we travel to Asia that if the balcony is uncovered it is never used during the cruise. Thanks again.

  15. Hi Everyone,

My parents are going on this Tasmania cruise in 3 days! :)

I am only looking into travel insurance now, but was wondering what type of insurance you guys recommend? I've ruled out credit card insurance as I read the thread posted the other day and it seems that domestic travel is not included. I'm looking into TID and they say we should select Australian waters. How do I know if the cruise will stay in Australian waters?

    Thank you in advance :p

    Hi,

We recently did 2 Diamond Princess domestic cruises and I was concerned that I would have to take out other travel insurance other than my Credit Card Insurance. I contact Allianz and they advised that as long as Medicare coverage was not on the ship, we would be covered. I then rang Princess and they advised that NOTHING on our particular cruises would be covered by Medicare, so our CC insurance was sufficient. I would advise contacting the cruise line and the provider before taking out insurance!

    Hope this helps!

  16. Hi all

We have a hold on this cabin on Aloha Deck 12. It's an accessible inside cabin for Singapore to Sydney in Sept. Above is Horizon Court & a public toilet, below is a laundromat & cabins. Anyone cruised in this area od Diamond or Sapphire, & know of any noise issues?

We have never been in a cabin this high before but did sail in the same location on Emerald Deck on Sapphire 7 yrs ago but it was very quiet.

Also worried that it's the "last" wheelchair cabin on the ship. Does that mean it's been overlooked by everyone else for a reason?

    Please help.

    Thanks

Recently was on Diamond and had A709 balcony. If I was going on Diamond again we would stay away from Aloha Deck! Heard noise from above but mainly chair scraping. This was the end of a 28 night cruise and we were only in this cabin for 2 nights and then we were (thankfully) upgraded for the next cruise. If this was the only cabin available we would make the best of it, but Aloha Deck not our preferred option, but I am sure many will disagree with me.

  17. Diamond is at Circular Quay today Friday 19 Dec 2014...

    Hi all,

Just off Diamond today. Yes, ONE American socket! No HAPPY HOUR on this 5 night cruise BUT we did board in Brisbane which was the end of a 28 night cruise and they did have a happy hour!

Also surprisingly I purchased some cosmetics and they were cheaper on the 5 night cruise than they were when we boarded in Brisbane!

Great ship and looking forward to cruising on her again!

  18. I am also having problems with the Call Centre. We booked a cruise whilst on Rhapsody of the Seas last week, but when I got home on Tuesday I noticed that I had not received by CAS Diamond Balcony Discount. I have had 2 days of phone calls and still no results.

I have tried to email the C&A Society also but their email line is down.

I am totally frustrated with the Call Centre, and am unsure of what to do next.

The difference is $372.00 so I would like this discount applied.
