  1. Hi y'all

So this might seem like a simple question to answer but we are looking at booking the 9 night Pacific Jewel cruise from Sydney departing on 19th September (after an initial hiccup).

We have the choice of inside at $800ishpp

    Outside $920pp

    Balcony $1250pp

I have only been in an inside cabin before so as a couple the view and or balcony appeals.

We can afford either, but the extra $700 would be spending money. We were also thinking of a night in Sydney after we got back which we could scrap perhaps if you thought the balcony was worth the extra cost.

    Opinions please :)

Having been on both outside and balconies on Pacific Jewel I would definitely go for an outside. The cheap balconies that are quoted are probably on Deck 10 and this would have been the worst balcony cabin ever. They are smaller cabins because the balcony has been added and this has taken away from the room space and as the balconies have been added they are metal so no way to see out even sitting on the balcony. Absolutely no room with the amount of deck furniture they have tried to put on the balcony either.

Balconies on deck 11 would be more expensive, but would also be prone to noise from the pool deck above.

We have just come back from Pacific Jewel and had an outside on deck 6. All fine, but deck 5 would be my preference.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Is it a FCC with a 2 year expiration date? If so & you want to use it for yourself you can call Princess to extend it for 2 more years.

No it is a 4 year one. I did go overboard and possibly purchase one too many.

Will keep it for a little while but probably will have to cash it in!

  3. We had our short 2-night cruise on the Jewel on the weekend. Loved the ship and the food was great but found the staff unhelpful, unfriendly and at times downright rude. This included all staff from waiters to cabin stewards to casino staff. As a family we usually get on very well with staff having formed a few lasting friendships over the years and I have never experienced anything like this on any cruises I have been on. :(

But now looking forward to leaving for Perth on Friday prior to our 26 night cruise next Tuesday on Sea Princess.:)

    Hi there,

I am surprised by your treatment on Pacific Jewel. We were on the 11 night cruise prior to your cruise and even though I had some complaints, the staff were not one of them. We found that they were great (generally). I probably won't cruise P&O again but certainly not because of the staff. I am surprised. Perhaps it was because it was a short cruise? Really no excuse at all as every cruise should receive the same service!

  4. Hi Resordanis.

There is a cafe in front of the markets. Right on the waterfront, where the water taxi drops you off. They give you a code when you buy something, but you have to ask for it.

There is one that goes from in front of the ship, that is AUD$10 each way, per person. There is also one half way down the markets at the wharf, that is $5 per person, each way.

Pity I can't meet you there.

    Have a great cruise.

Thank you so much for the information........I will think of you:D

  5. I will be in Vila next Thursday, WOOHOO.

We always get a water taxi to the markets, and drink coffee and use the free WiFi.

    So excited, leaving Sunday.:D

    Hi there,

Is the free WIFI at the markets? Can you please let me know exactly where this is located. We will be there in Vila in a couple of weeks and need all information on free Wifi that I can obtain.

Also, with the water taxi.....is this new in addition to the terrible bus(?) transport that has been available from the wharf in Vila?

    Thanks:D

  6. Hi all,

Not sure whether this has been covered before, but I just noticed at Central Station today that they now have a luggage storage facility on the country platform.

Not sure how long it has been there, but it certainly was not when we were in Sydney about a month ago.

I know in the past people have asked about this facility on CC so thought I would pass it on.:D

  7. I've included a couple of photos but I must apologise for the poor quality as they are screen grabs from videos I took.

I think they will give you a general idea about the bed on the wall (which was never folded down by the way) and the white metal 'bracket' that was on the floor. Please bear in mind though that we moved the double bed to be flush against the right hand wall (looking in as you walk into cabin) so the configuration we had was not the norm (though the first pic of the double bed was taken before our room attendant helped us move the bed against the wall!)

    Hope these help!

    Adele.

Thanks Adele, I really appreciate you going to the trouble of sending the photos.

  8. No problems at all. It had a third bed on the wall (left hand side as you walk into the cabin), not one that comes down from the roof. We didn't use this as we had a cot. My husband and I moved the double bed against the wall and had the portacot underneath the bed attached to the wall, if you can visualise!! So definitely a double bed. There was a metal bracket on the floor for the third bed that jutted out and might be easy to trip on though we never tripped on it. I will try and find some photos as I did take pics of this room. Yes it was refurbed though I only noticed new carpet, perhaps the linen and curtains may have been new too though I couldn't tell!! We had been on the Jewel in a balcony cabin back in 2011 so in comparison I only really noticed the carpet and perhaps the linen chair cover.

On the August 2013 cruise we were on they were changing all the mattresses on deck 10 cabins over when we stopped in port Vila, our cabin wasn't changed but that was while they were still doing minor work after the dry dock so I don't know if mattresses or other things were changed after our cruise.

Interesting that you have connections to cairns, it is nice up here except for when we get cyclones!!

I'll look for some cabin photos and figure out how to upload them...I'm a bit new to posting :)

MANY THANKS for the information again. Not sure whether the third bed is going to work for us as my husband does trip on things:rolleyes: but we will have to work around it.

If you have some photos that would be great. I have no idea either how to do that! Yes, Cairns or Machans Beach is where we go, is nice but certainly not at Cyclone time. We spent 12 weeks there last year and enjoyed ourselves!

    Thanks again. Cheryle

  9. We were in 6123 on Pacific Jewel just after the refurb last year. It was very quiet, we certainly didn't hear any noise from the Marquee.

The only noise I remember was when we first arrived in port vila and *I think* they were letting the tenders down or the anchor (I'm not sure which), it made a loud shuddering noise that only lasted a few minutes, having said that, my 18 month old daughter slept through it so it wasn't too bad!! I was worried about being up front as we are usually mid to aft but honestly I liked this room and had no problems. Enjoy your trip!

    Adele.

Thank you so much for the information, it is greatly appreciated. We had booked a guarantee (a first) so can't chose where we are, but you comments are reassuring.

A couple of things, we only want a double, is there a third bed in the cabin? and have they refurbished the cabins. They were a bit tired when we were on Jewel in April 2013.

I noticed you are in Cairns. Know Cairns well, our son lives there and it is like our second home.

Thanks for the information again Adele.:D

    Regards,

    Cheryle

  10. I was on the phone for 1 hour 20 minutes and converted my courtesy holds to bookings, have to wait 24 to 48 hours for the pricing to be amended and C&A discount/OBC to be applied.

I can cancel my Rhapsody cruise and get a full refund because it is more than 151 days out from the sail date.

I could not use by next cruise certificate that I purchased on Oasis last year, the rep tried many ways to apply it but it wasn't accepted. He said because it is an open booking with a reservation number it was combinable with the BOGO sale. I have tried to use this certificate twice now but it isn't combinable.

So I just wonder does anyone know when these can be used? Is it only able to be used for non-sale/promotion bookings?

I also have had problems using the NCC and would NEVER purchase again. Just too many T&C associated with them.

I was able to use one with the BOGO sale. It does say they are combinable but it all has to be done manually and some consultants are just too lazy (I think) to do this. I stood my ground on this one with two phone calls one in the morning and another 1 hour on the phone yesterday afternoon

my invoice finally arrived all correct. The only problem was that the consultant said the OBC would not be applied until 2 weeks before the cruise, which I thought was strange.

I have used Princess and P&O FCC many times and the process is simply. Certainly not with RCL and I will be saving my money and never purchase again.

  11. I was reading the terms and conditions of the ad on the weekend and it said that the BOGO prices applies to staterooms on a guarantee basis only.

As I mentioned previously, my cruise has gone down in price considerably. Due to the amount of money involved, I am thinking of cancelling my booking with the TA and (probably losing my deposit) and re-booking.

Does anyone know if you can book a specific cabin with BOGO? I need to be in a midships cabin which is what I currently have booked.

Yes I have booked a specific cabin. My problem, after waiting over 1 hour this morning on the phone is STILL applying my next cruise certificate to this reservation. I will now have to await up to 3 days for any discounts to apply.

  12. Actually for our cruise the prices were actually very similar. They have increased the base price to give the discount on the 50% off.

The difference for us was only $20A:confused: but where some savings could come in will be with an OBC for using the NCC. I have read the T&C and will have to change to a different date for the same itinerary. Will be trying to do this today.

Follow up to this, is RCL don't work on the weekend, so am not sure whether our booking will drop out by then! I really need to speak to them before proceeding. Could not believe I could not speak to someone today.

  13. good luck, I have been reading the RCI thread and all of the american folk are calling and getting their current reservations adjusted to the promotional pricing ... they don't have the same Ts and Cs as we do in australia whereby you can't change a current booking.

My TA called through to the call centre today to try and adjust my booking but NO was the answer. The TA is going to query the RCI rep next time they visit the office as it's very odd that we have different terms and conditions, especially when you read about the great discounts US citizens are saving on current bookings!!!!!

What do other people think about this?

Do anyone know why this happens in australia?

  14. Also, if you are a Crown and Anchor Society member this promotion is combinable with balcony and suite discounts (it's unclear about OBB Bonus) and you can find some of the cruises with the BOGO 50% deal in the C&A society login area of the website. Of course you have to be platinum or higher to access the exclusive rates.

It actually does say in the T&C about the on board booking bonus (Next cruise certificates) you can apparently use these. I will find out AM tomorrow when I try and use Diamond Discount and NCC! Will report here details!

  15. If you are meaning military on board credit - Carnival do have it for Aust and NZ forces. Just need to email proof of service ie statement of service/discharge cert for past members/ or proof of current service with the following info:

We/I are/am sailing with Carnival :cool:and would both like to apply for the Defence Benefits Onboard Credit for that cruise.

    My/Our details are as follows:

    Name(s):

    Booking Number:

    Itinerary:

    Cruise Code:

Ship: Pacific Carnival Spirit Departure: Port - departure date

    Email to: InfoC@carnival.com.au

We (hubby and I) have received it.

    Hi there,

Thanks for that information. We have received Military credit many times before but when I last spoke to Carnival they said it was not applicable to Carnival Spirit, so your news is very interesting.

We are also concerned about points for our Captains Circle which has now been confirmed that we do not accumulate points on Carnival Spirit.

    Thanks again
