  1. What website am I on? People on cruise critic never agree on anything ;)

I think when it comes to being able to sail in a suite for less money than in a non-suite, you will get a LOT of agreement! And for the OP, this is your first NCL cruise, so prepared to be blown away by the Suite Life.

  2. Just when I am ready to swear off CC because of long, sad rants about how bad parents or cigarette smokers or chair hogs or....you know what I'm sayin'. And then along comes mydreamvacation with a generosity of spirit and joie de vivre that just makes me all happy! Thanks so much!

  3. I have stayed in both.

The mini feels bigger, a bit. The curtain is nice if one is up while one is asleep. The bathroom module is the same one in the Penthouse suites, small tub/shower combo.

The bed is right up against the closet, kind of hard to use, but you can! There is a light switch inside that closet that is hard to find but when you do it makes it easier!

I did enjoy having a mini aft on 11 with a Spa pass. Like having a deluxe spa in your suite! Only steps away.

These days I check the SJ suites on 12 because they are full suites and sometimes only a bit more than the mini!

  4. People keep saying that NCL nickel and dimes you as opposed to other cruise lines like Celebrity. What exactly do they mean by this? So far, I've only cruised in RC and disney.

OK, so I just browsed Celebrity's website and as far as I can tell, you pay extra for the same things:

    - Full service spa

    - Beauty salon

    - Boutiques & shopping

    - Art auctions/galleries

    - Shore excursions

    - Fitness trainers/classes

    - Babysitting service

    - Cocktails

    - Specialty dining

I am guessing RC would charge for those things as well. Disney may include some of them, I hear they don't charge for soda. Not sure about their specialty dining.

  5. I think an enhanced Driver's license from NY is a WHTI compliant document for the cruise. But please check with NCL.

For round-trip sailings (cruises that depart from and return to the same U.S. port), you may sail with either a valid passport, proof of citizenship and a valid government-issued photo I.D. (driver’s license with a photo), or any other WHTI compliant document.

  6. Hello all. Traveling on NCL breakaway in June. Never changed my last name on my birth certificate to my married name, do I bring my marriage license? This will be my first cruise so not sure what to do.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get a passport! Our next door neighbor just went through a nightmare because of name changes, divorces, etc.

Having a passport just about guarantees more cruises! And you have plenty of time. SO JUST DO IT! :D

  7. I am a happy, delightful, cruising vegan! People know I'm vegan only if they ask or if they hear me order a meal. I have been known to eat some cake that just might have an egg in it! I mean, I'm not an insaneatarian!

I have never had a problem in any dining venues on NCL. They are always happy to dream up something for me, or I just order sides.

  8. I found the desserts on Epic very appealing visually and completely lacking in taste. I found that to be very odd, especially the ones in the Garden Cafe. Fortunately, they had a great selection of both hard and soft ice creams with toppings.

I know, huh? As Woody Allen said, "my mother spent my childhood putting the chicken through the de-flavorizer." I often wonder if they have one in the kitchen. Not all the desserts, but especially the chocolate ones and the sort of jello-ey slices look pretty and have no flavor.

Of course, I am old and taste buds die.

There is some sort of banana cream pie concoction in Cagney's that I love. And the bread pudding is good, especially if you pour Cointreau all over it!

  9. I have put complaining on my list of other deadly sins!

Beth Allen's website talks about it:

The truth is, complaining is really an outward expression of an inner frustration. We think that by complaining about it we’ll find a solution, but all that really happens is that we end up dwelling on the situation when you could have long since moved on! When you can’t change a situation, you can always change your attitude about it!

On top of that, when we complain, we give up our power to do something about it. Not to mention that complaining completely negates happiness! It’s just not possible to be happy and complaining at the same time. And that’s a sad fact! ;-)

Successful people understand that negativity zaps energy, motivation and focus, so avoid complainers at all costs. Therefore, if you’re a complainer, well, you’ll likely find yourself hanging out with other complainers! Yikes! That’s reason enough, right?!

  10. Moderno and Blue Lagoon are actually on deck 8. I think Mary Kay is suffering from CDS! (Cruise Denial Syndrome) It sets in if you don't get enough cruises each year.

Early in the morning they often set up some hot coffee on the pool deck, sometimes muffins. On the (I think) starboard side there is a window that opens to the sea! Love to lean out and sip, munch, repeat!

Enjoy that cruise! It looks swell.

  11. I don't know if I can put your mind at ease, but I can share what I do! I take a look at the overall percentages (75 percent liked it, food 4 or 3.9 out of 5) and go from there. I also take a look at the first page of stars and get an average, since those are recent passengers.

I am amazed how often they are similar.

Given the nature of food reviews and the immense delta of opinions from people who were on the same ship on the same cruise (!) I tend to take the screaming RAVES and the "inedible slop" type reviews with a grain of, you know...
