  1. Do all of you who complain on here about seeing shorts in the dining room complain about it on the ship? Because complaining after-the-fact is going to do no good. If the dining room staff won't handle it, go up the chain of command. I cut the workers some slack because they can't see 100% of everything but once it's brought to their attention and they don't do anything, then there's no harm in going to their bosses. Until other passengers start complaining long and loud and making it known to the management that it's an issue, then they're always going to let it slide.

I think most cruisers are too busy having a good time to really care to complain.

  2. It is not a competition as to which country is more dangerous.

The truth is it can happen at any time and at any place.

I am going grocery shopping this afternoon, and it can happen in my local mall.

My vigilence will not make a difference, because it would be unexpected.

We have a trip to Europe planned for this winter, and we hope not to cancel it. We just cancelled our fall trip for health reasons and hopefully the next trip will be a go.

At this point in time, I see no reason to fear travelling to Europe. As a matter of fact, there will be very tight security.

Friends just returned from a cruise in the Middle East. There were Navy Seals on board and pax were restricted in certain places. That is a little scarrier.

Several years ago, friends were on the Oceania ship that was chased by pirates. Still, it was their best trip ever.

When we went through the Panama Canal, we were accomanied by gunboats.

There are many stories and most of us live to tell the tale.

  3. Today ,the US State Dept has put the world on high alert to all US citizens traveling abroad :o

We definitely are NOT considering any travel in Europe or close to the ISIS controlled regions .

Our next cruise is first a repo cruise on Island Princess May 8th ,3 seas days to Vancouver & then Celebrity Millennium 8 night cruise to Seward from Vancouver on May 12th :D We are certainly looking forward to our 5th Alaska cruise & trip into the interior :D following our Alaska cruise & interior trip ,we then fly to Calgary Canada to visit friends for a week:D

Actually, the alert is for travel WorldWide. That includes the US, especially since this will be a very busy holiday week.

    Safe travels to all.

  4. Been on over 100 cruises and probably just as many land trips and have never driven to the ship. Most of our cruises are two weeks or more along with some land before or after. The only time I worry about what I bring is when I get on the plane and wonder if there will be room under the seat in front of me for a small bag since all the carry on people are fighting over the space. It really gets ugly sometimes. The best one was a couple of weeks ago. We had a vacant seat between us so we could spread out a little and a woman behind us wanted to put all her stuff, including some really stinky food, on that seat because she had too many carry-ons.

    ONG That is awful

  5. The Chic crowd.

The guys will wear nice jeans and a button down shirt (not tucked in!) That is The Look.

The girls will wear their nice clothes and jewellery and look more dressed up than the guys, yet still informal. With HIGH heels!

This is the look of my "kids" and my friends' kids.

We really don't fit in! C'est la vie! I wouldn't worry about it.

One poster mentioned that she would dress up and her husband won't have to.

When we go to restaurants with friends, everyone dresses nicely and no one is anywhere near formal.

  6. I dunno, Hank. The old rule of thumb was that it is better to be underdressed than overdressed for a social function. Speaking for myself, I don't care to be in a tux when all round me are in jeans. And BTW why all the hoopla about jeans? Can't one be chick in slacks?

Very interesting that you should say that.

I am a senior and always believed it was better to be underdressed as well.

Those were the days of the Little Black Dress.

When we went to a supper club, we felt better dressed than those who dressed "fancy". Fancy was a bad word!!!

Funny how the times have changed!

  7. Perhaps the poll should be asking, 'who will be wearing jeans to the MDR on Chic nights?'

Hopefully, only those with good bods and with nicely-fitting jeans. And a gorgeous top! I don't think the label on the jeans matter, but the stunning top does. And high heels! (No, not on the guys!)

This is a young look. I don't think you will find many of a certain age wearing it! Unless they live at the gym!!!!

  8. so, you are doing the b2b on equinox? so, 8 days at sea instead of like 2? (i know we only had 1 day at sea on the 21st, i'm not sure how many the 31st had.) i hope you have lots of obc to spend on all those sea days ;)

    Thanks for the encouragement!!

It doesn't compare favourably, but I figured we would go for it. We have done the 14 day Eclipse a couple of times already. Someone from one of our roll calls suggested HAL. I checked it out and found the price much higher.

As for the sea days, I guess we will catch up on our reading!

  9. $85 more than you would get on Princess. Its such a long time away you have plenty time to source some alternative plans.

I don't think you realize that these (Jan. 21, 10 days and Jan. 31, 11days) were unique itineraries offered only on those two dates. No other line offers the same thing. So replacing is impossible. We all will have to settle, whatever our choice turns out to be.

We opted for the Equinox cruises that have similar dates, but the itineraries are very different. Furthermore, we are not excited about going back and forth to Florida.

  10. I'm renaming it Classless Chic. :D

I don't understand why you have such little faith in your fellow cruisers!

In reality, the Chic people will still look chic.

And the ones who are not so chic (yes, in their formalwear!) will still not be chic.

I don't expect to see total slobs because of the change.

  11. I think men who wear suits and ties to work tend to prefer a sports jacket or sweater on the weekend. Even friends of ours who were known to dress more formally, are now casual

In our city (which some find sophisticated!) I find that the more upscale restaurants are frequented by the young. And they are casual chic. When we do go to one of these restaurants, we notice that there are very few seniors!

However, when we go to a neighbourhood restaurant, it is filled with seniors!

Some of the posters here love to dress up. They seem to be campaigning for the status quo dresscode. But the truth is that more and more pax are preferring smart casual. That is not to say sloppy. It can be very attractive.

I don't recall ever seeing anyone in shorts in the MDR at dinnertime. As a matter of fact, the few times we have had dinner upstairs, I was frankly surprised to see some in shorts because I find it too cold in the evening and I always take a cover-up.

  12. If you google Jazz cruise 2017, there appears to be two different groups. The Smooth jazz cruise, Summit, Jan. 21 and the Jazz cruise, Summit, Jan. 28. The latter stipulates Wait list only.

If they take another ship for our itineraries ( Jan 21 & 31), there will be other unhappy cruisers.

I don't have high hopes, but it would be the decent thing to offer us compensation that we could enjoy. Knowing Celebrity, they probably will have so many restrictions that many of us will not be able to take advantage of the offer!

  13. I think they are going to switch up the 3 cruises from San Juan. The first will be a 7 night repo to get the ship to Fort Lauderdale for the jazz cruise. Then do another repo of 14 nights to get the ship back to San Juan to continue the rest of their sailings.

Once they figure out the new itineraries they will then fess up and notify us of the change.

Are you guessing about the 14 day Florida-SAn Juan or have you heard something?

I wonder how much they will charge for that? What the dates would be? And what ports?

  14. If it's a jazz cruise, then it's definitely a full ship charter. And the prices will most definitely be much higher. But if you're a jazz fan, consider it; I sailed one on HAL several years ago and it was AMAZING and I'm not a huge jazz fan.

The full ship charters allow the chartering entity to decide the itinerary - they effectively own the ship for the week.

Why wouldn't they take a ship that normally sails 7 days from Fort Lauderdale?

Why would they take a 10 day from San Juan and change so many schedules?
