We have experienced problems with cabins, especially on the Century class ships. Sometimes they were handled with compassion (even a bottle of wine makes us feel appreciated) and sometimes they were handled poorly (as one of you said, blame the victim). One such time, we had a leak over our bed and the water was coming down over our feet. They did nothing for us and made us feel like 2 cents. I think it all depends on the captain or hotel director. They are not all equal.

If you look up MVPinBoyntin in the
Celebrity thread, they have a blog on
South America. We followed a lot of their advice and in Ushaia, we did a private tour with Gerardo Germain (or something like that. it's in their blog)
We were 3 people and we enjoyed it very much.
If you are 4 and if anyone is large(!), his car may be too small. Or maybe he has a new vehicle. It was in 2014.
Enjoy and I wish you good weather!

Rereading your original post, I realize you have not yet booked.
If you were my children,(not that they ever like my advice!) I'd strongly advise to forget about Florida or the Carib for this year. Why take a chance? It's so not worth it. There are so many interesting places you can visit instead.

If you are planning to start a family, you both should be very careful about Zika. Even if you remain on the ship, you both should apply the best mosquito repellent you can find (unless you remain indoors!) All the best!

Agreed.
Afternoon Tea is the stuff the upper-class aristocrats used to eat sitting on low sofa/lounge chair mid-late afternoon (as they ate their main meal later this snack was to keep them going as it were). Usually cakes/sandwiches etc.
High Tea was the working mans main meal after work - usually eaten at a table, sitting on a proper chair (hence high - as opposed to sitting on a low chair/lounger/sofa). Typically now shortened to Tea.... hence teatime etc
So I suspect Celebrity mean Afternoon Tea.
Thank you for such a good and easy to remember explanation!

How far in advance does Celebrity come out with their new itineraries? 18 months?
Before publishing them, why can't they negotiate the charters? That would make a lot more sense.

I can say with all assuredness that no one who responded to your post on this thread or anyone else on any other thread on cruise critic, for that matter, does not understand or identify with your frustration. It was your thinking by way of your original post that most (including myself) took issue with. It is a small inconvenience for you and anyone else (including myself) who has had this happen to them. As I said in my other response, your sailing is a year and a half away, many months to rethink your plans. If you feel that strongly about Celebrity's way of doing things, look elsewhere for your vacations. This will be my last response to you, because I have no desire to get into a debate about this.
It's quite presumptuous of you to say it's a "small inconvenience".
A change of plans may be a big inconvenience because of date, length of cruise, selection of ports, port of departure or a number of other reasons.
It's not a good thing to be so judgmental.

It doesn't matter to me if the OP used a new name, or if he/she doesn't respond.
So many of the posters have been nasty and snarky. I don't blame the OP for not wanting to get entangled with them.
I am responding because I think Shipshape nailed it. If a cruiseline wants to charter its ships, fine, BUT charter well ahead and don't offer it to the public, only to cancel.
-
Our past experiences, when we had a late departure (11pm or midnight) or an overnight, Celebrity brought local talent onto the ship for a folkloric show. Hopefully, that's what they will continue to do.

I've never understood roll calls. Unless you've met the people in person before, it's like a huge weird blind date.
We did it once and the people were NOTHING like how we thought from the roll call.
On the other hand, we have met wonderful people on all our cruises, many whom we have communicated with after the cruise, but we met them "organically" (not sure what term to use, we met them on board because we were interested in the same things, etc.).
But this thread, to think there might be people who are belligerent or threatening, makes me NEVER want to try a roll call again.
We have been on so many rollcalls, and I can't recall anyone being belligerent or threatening.
On the other hand there have been some wonderful organizers with whom we shared transfers, tours, etc.

I would love to know how to get info wipped off the internet. I "googled" myself and found name, address, etc. That is scary. One site wanted to charge 44.95 to delete the information. I am assuming that is a scam of some sort. The technology has changed so rapidly that laws and law enforcement can't keep up with it.
Don't worry about it too much.
Most people with careers can be found by googling.
What we are talking about here, is using your last name and city on a website that by virtue of its raison d'etre lets others know when you will be travelling.
I also wouldn't post photos of my family.

I am reading these posts and my mouth is open!
I can't imagine someone on a roll call threatening another pax.
This is not normal and definitely should have been reported.
What a shame.
I recommend CC roll calls to my cruising friends who don't know about it. No complaints yet, thank goodness.

Well since this is a Celebrity forum, y is correct for outsides (ocean view),
but that should be z insides, x balconies, and w suites. ;) :D
Thanks! I'll try to remember!

A Sixth, I have a story too.
About 8 years ago, around US election time, I chose Obamamama. I thought it was catchy and it just came into my head (I am a Canadian, like you).
Well, some posters found it political, which was very funny to me. However the Cruise Critic people asked me to change it and Can'tstopcruising popped into my head. So that's what it is.
-
So, does that mean a change in screen name?
Good one!
I had to think for a minute!
We are booked on b2b this coming winter, so I guess I will keep it for now!

That it is possible that Cruise Critic members may have a slightly different demographic in their selection of a cabin booking category [inside, oceanview, balcony, suite] than does Celebrity's guest population as a whole, the answer is rather predictable statistically... As the ships tend to sail full and--on average--most staterooms are occupied by two [some more but some are occupied by solos; Celebrity likely has average occupancy predictors (in total and perhaps by market and/or sailing time)], it would seem safe to assume that the stateroom booking distribution in each of the four cabin categories is equal to the number of available cabins in each as a percentage of the total number of cabins available for sale [by ship and fleet-wide]...
With all due respect, separation of "guarantee" bookings muddy the picture in that such pricing opportunities only become available when a particular cabin category on a specific sailing is not selling as well/quickly as Celebrity first predicted that it would... Guarantees are not offered when new schedules are first announced and--on popular, well booked sailings--sometimes never show up at all...
The fact is, there are x insides, y outsides, z balconies, a few suites and if the ship is full, that's all the possible votes (unless, 4 in one cabin each vote separately!)

Wow, a Sixth! 8 in 1/2 a year!
We are taking a break from cruising in 2016. Our winter vacation was in southern Europe and our fall vacation will be in the Alps. Can't cruise there! (except on the little boat rides on the lakes!)
-
None yet. I have one booked.
I want to be excited about it,but if I'm honest some people on here make me question if it's worth keeping.

Don't worry.
Go and enjoy.

Since there are more balcony cabins than any others, it makes sense that most posters voted for that!
-
We used to do b2bs on the Millennium out of Puerto Rico.
We loved departing from San Juan for the 10 and 11 day cruises.
Of course, that ended.
We were so excited when we were told that in Jan/17 there would be a b2b 10/11 days on the Summit, leaving from San Juan. And we booked. We were bumped to the Equinox out of Fort Lauderdale. Going back and forth to Florida is not the same!
So, c'mon, Celebrity, give us some winter b2b, 10/11 days out of San Juan again. Please!
-
We book inside cabins (yes, I know we are a rarity!).
We know, that on Celebrity ships, the inside is the same size as the balcony cabin.
On another line, the inside may be a closet and we would have to upgrade to get a decent size cabin.
We try to cruise as cheaply as possible (which, in high season, certainly isn't cheap anymore!)

I think you are right about semantics. Some people look chic and sophisticated in smart casual, evening chic or in formal.
Others look neither chic nor sophisticated in any of the above.
I don't like to use the words "riff raff" because it really is very degrading.
We all lead different lifestyles at home and dress accordingly.
The ones who dress poorly probably do so because that is how they dress. I doubt they actually think to themselves "this is my vacation. I will do what I want." Actually, we all do what we want. That comes naturally. However, we don't all want the same things!!
-
I got the email, too. Nothing in Canada. Tough.
Enjoy the Allure.
My family went on it last winter and loved it. Especially the then 3 year old. He knew what was on each and every floor!
I read so much about rude pax and I can't understand why anyone has to be rude on vacation! Aren't we supposed to de-stress?

You can book onboard and defer the OBC to the time of the future sailing. That will avoid a cancellation fee in the event you cancel before final payment is due. I just cancelled 3 deposits I'd made onboard in January and the refunds hit my credit card within ~72 hours.
The onboard bookings are also moveable, so if you know you want to go but don't have the travel date completely locked you're still OK. The modified reservation will still show as booked onboard and should carry the onboard bonus OBC, and generally carry the same Perks (with some exceptions, like if you moving the future booking a large amount of time forward, e.g., 2016 to 2017).
We have a future booking that we have moved around a lot. I can't even remember when we booked or how many changes we have made.
Because we didn't know what we wanted at the time, we kept the booking with Celebrity because we didn't want to encounter TA problems with multiple changes.
On board, we were given x dollars OBC for that cruise. Then we were charged the same amount as a deposit. When we cruise, we will pay the balance. If we should cancel, we will forfeit the deposit which equals the OBC we already spent!
For you Canadian Sailers out there....

That sounds fabulous!
But I think the on board charges are always in US.
If you use a credit card in Canadian funds, during the cruise, check a couple of times that they are charging you in US, so that your bank can convert it at a better rate. Many posters here over the years have reported problems. We have a BMO M/C in US funds that we use. One time, in their wisdom, they converted it to CAD and then it was converted back to US. What a mess that was to correct!
