  1. My DH always refused to sail on Cunard because of the class system.

I told him about Luminae and Michael's Club. We just did a b2b. He wasn't even aware of these venues.

What I am trying to say, is that if the venues for non-suite pax are enjoyable, nobody will miss what they don't even see.

If, however, the non-suite venues suffer (as some of you suggest), that will be a different story.

If I may boast (!), we usually book insides. Not a word has been said about the Edge inside cabins. Will they, too, be larger? smaller? Who knows?

  2. Last year we flew economy on Swissair. The plane was comparable to Air Canada Rouge (IMO). We were so uncomfortable.

So, this year we will fly Air Canada Rouge Toronto -

Athens and we are paying extra for the Premium Economy.

We figure we are paying extra just to have the kind of economy seats we used to have.

If you have short legs, you may not need it!

  3. They will have to drag me out at 7am!

Even if we get up at 6am. We each shower, dress, have breakfast, and return to brush our teeth and finish up. All in one hour? No way! Not to say, who wants to get up at 6am?

We have a long travel day ahead of us. Travel is long, stressful and tiring as it is.

We would need a vacation from our vacation!

But I have a feeling, this 7am is a suggestion, as a poster said. They hope some will leave then. And some (as we have read here) will be very happy to leave at 7am, so that will help them out.

  4. I just checked the Summit out of Puerto Rico.

There are 2 itineraries of 12 night each.

They are MORE than double the price of the 7 night itineraries.

    Does that make any sense?

Usually the prices out of Puerto Rico are a little lower.

An inside cabin will be over $4000 Cad. for 12 nights.

    They can keep it!

  5. We been feeling safer in Cartagena then in NYC . Its our second visit and we booked cruise because of this port. First time we took ship tour and this time we just took taxi to Old city . Never felt unsafe .:p Just have common sense .

We would like to take a taxi into the old city.

Did you get local currency before you left home?

Did they exchange money for you on the ship?

    Thanks

  6. We live in South Georgia on an island with a beach, so we never travel to go to the beach.

All inclusive has its benefits, but you are stuck in one place. I understand if you are in a pressure job and just need to relax, but when I go on a trip, I want to see and do stuff.

As we can see, Richstowe comes from Montreal. No beach there. Just cold and ice and snow.

So an AI would be an excellent getaway to warmer weather.

We have not yet done one because we like to go away for 3 weeks and think that would be too long for an AI.

Like one of the other posters, we also take a break from cruising some years. We like to "park" ourselves somewhere in Europe. But there aren't too many places in Europe that are warm, (forget hot!) in the winter.

Therefore, Jan/Feb 2017 and 2018 is back to cruising!

  7. Since we haven't cruised in over a year, we haven't yet experienced the new dress code.

So, my question is does my husband need a sports jacket or can we wear a nice sweater?

A suit or a tux are definitely OUT for him!

The funny thing is I will probably wear my usual "dressy" cruise outfits.

    from Chicos!

  8. For what purpose does a cruise line produce a list which is circulated to staff identifying people they claim not to have paid gratuities?

What are they ultimately hoping to achieve by doing this?

What issues does it raise w.r.t privacy over financial transactions? What if someone pays at a later point.

We prepay our tips and don't pay extra tips or grease any extra palms, so I guess we're semi deadbeats

Sorry for digressing, but I see your location is Piz Gloria. Are you in Switzerland?

  9. Your welcome! Thanks, Ben was my dog, so it was his nickname!

I am sure you will have a great time. We visited Rhodes once on a Cruise and it was lovely. You may want to split your time 1 week Rhodes and 2 Crete, just because it is so much bigger. But whatever you decide I am sure you will enjoy your time. Happy planning!

That may be an idea (1 wk +2)

Would we have to stay in 2 areas in Crete, or can we see most from Chania.

We won't have a car. How is the bus service for getting around to see and do things?

So happy to have found you.

Hope you don't mind answering all my Questions!

  10. With 10 days choose either the west or east side. We have spent two weeks on each side and this time we are revisiting. You can fly into Chania or Heraklion from a number of European cities and avoid Athens and ferries. If you choose the west, there are some gorgeous beaches, especially elafonisi and falasarna.

We saw two tiny mosquitoes the first day and none since. Depending on if you like to swim, the water would be warmer in the fall than the spring. Today it was 82 F. There are a number of excellent sights, Knossos, phaestos... Crete is extremely rugged and mountainous, it took an hour and a half to go 30 miles this morning. The food is excellent, the people lovely and the costs extremely reasonable. Enjoy whatever you chose!

Thank you so much, Bennybear. (I love your name!)

We will probably go in October and will probably spend 10 days in Rhodes first. I haven't looked into air yet. This is in the very early stages of planning. I will check out the areas you mentioned. Thank you so much.

  11. ay

We are currently in Crete, on our third trip, and will have spent 6 weeks here, Chania is gorgeous, you could easily spend the day in this beautiful city. See the market, wander the old streets and enjoy the harbour. The Bus system is also very good if you want to go out to a beach near Chania, weather permitting. Maleme is a nearby village with a German war cemetery, very interesting as there was some very intense fighting. You can also visit nearby Souda with an allied war cemetery and the Stavros beach nearby where they filmed Zorba the Greek. You could probably hire a taxi to take you strikes permitting 😉 Enjoy this beautiful island and great food!

    Lucky you!

We are thinking of 10 days in Crete (probably Chania) either in May or October.

Any comments or other thoughts would be appreciated.

What about mosquitos? Have you seen any?

    Thanks
