I think it is because it is the weekend: https://www.enterprise.ca/en/help/faqs/pick-up.html

For Saint John you can rent a car or take an excursion to the St. Martin area to see the sea caves and experience the tides.
-
That is very strange that Enterprise says they will not pick you up. Are you sure you contacted the local branch? This post from this year says they did pick people up: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2637199

I have a friend who lives on the Island and she has been begging me to come see Anne and Gilbert. She says it is excellent. I did a search and here are some reviews and comments.

There is a lot of information for Halifax in this document. The tips above for Halifax are excellent as well.

I can't believe no one replied to this interesting post.
I am starting to research going on a similar cruise. Your information is interesting NJBelle.
Did you ever get back to Iceland? We spent two nights there in 2001 and would love to go back and tour more widely.

If you have not seen the original Anne of Green Gables musical then you should see it first. It is based on the book of the same name. I have yet to see Anne and Gilbert. I hear it is excellent and is based on a later book.

I don't know what your age is but on our expedition trip I was far from the oldest at 70.

That is my dream way to go Hallasm.

More geography issues: Split is in Croatia. It is a long drive from Split to Plitvice National Park and then you would want several hours in the park: https://goo.gl/maps/Uf53d14P8oB2
It is stunning and well worth going but it should be on a land tour. Split itself has plenty to offer.
You could make a day trip to Lake Bled from Kopor: https://goo.gl/maps/SiTB7azRFpm

It is really all about the ports.

Thanks Beach Ball for this update. I am glad you had a great day.

I have lived in Montreal and I have lived in France. While very much a Canadian city, Quebec City does have a somewhat European feel.

Here are downtown Halifax restaurants with seafood. You can peruse their menus:https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Restaurants-g154976-Halifax_Halifax_Region_Nova_Scotia.html
And here is Sydney: https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Restaurants-g154973-Sydney_Cape_Breton_Island_Nova_Scotia.html
And right on the dock there is a place selling fresh lobster.

Thank you for posting this. I will add it to our Sydney cruise document. I am really glad to hear about the music at the Governor's Pub. When the music is fiddling the instrument is called a fiddle by the way.

Many people forget the Cove part of Peggy's Cove. It is tiny but lovely. If you have a driver he/she can judge the time. It is certainly better to go to Peggy's later in the day.
If I had to choose I would pick Lunenburg.

There are great chowders all over Nova Scotia. Some people like them thick and creamy. Some prefer a good fishy broth. I do not like chowders thickened with too much cornstarch and I want as much fish as potato.

On a road trip you can choose where you go and how long you stay. And you can go to places not available by cruise. (Full Cabot Trail!) Of course you have to do a bit more planning and you have to drive.

Here is a link with information about car rentals and maps, etc. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BjAtDscML-9Ce3VWUUsOrsVhPL7KIxb7Go_9SRi82dE/edit
Be very aware of your time and when you are a bit less than halfway through your available time you need to be heading back. Going to Lunenburg you should take the coastal roads. Coming back you can take the highway.
Mahone Bay is just a slow down on the road. You get the famous view of the three churches before you reach Mahone Bay. Have lunch in Lunenburg (lots of places) visit the Fisheries Museum and wander about with whatever time you have.
This link has good information about the South Shore area of Nova Scotia: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iTNvEXWfiMaXIyHRv82AgrNkthPFT0PzDzhZIr7qRgE/edit
Here is a map for what you can do: https://goo.gl/maps/3whqBEQgyg22 So if you allow four hours for the drive you can work out how much time you can be in Lunenburg.

There are quite a few options for Antarctica. Check out this forum and the FAQs on the right: https://www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowForum-g1-i12337-Antarctic_Adventures.html

All passengers need notes from their doctors.

On the expedition ships you get a lot of help getting onto and off the zodiacs. I am old with bad knees and hips and did just fine. Once ashore you do not have to walk anywhere if you don't wish to. Just sit on the shore and watch the wildlife.
I took a walking stick for stability and was able to go everywhere.
The smaller the ship the better. We compromised size and price and went on Expedition the G Adventures. There were about 130 passengers but 20 of them kayaked many days. A few others would not get off each day so we never had to wait long to get ashore and I never felt rushed to get back to the ship.
It was a once in a lifetime trip for us which if I had time and money I would do again and again.

You will not have to parallel park. You would be going outside the cities. There will be lots of easier parking.
