  1. Couple other things to think about...

    • Photos, they range from $15-$20 each
    • Extras for your kids, arcade, stuff a bear ( or what ever they call it )
    • Cherry on top store ( candy and such).
    • Casino ( if you play)
    • Specialty restaurants ( Steakhouse $35, Italian is $15 per person, several al a cart places too)
    • sovereigns ( on ship, t-shirts, mugs, magnets)
    • Specialty coffee

We have cruised for less than $400 on a 7 day cruise... now we budget more than that because we do more extra cost stuff. Only you can know for sure if that is enough or not.

  2. We look at everything that is leaving in the time window we are able to cruise. From there, we decide if we want to fly or not ( mostly not) and how much extra time it would take to drive.

Mostly we go to Charleston SC, Jacksonville, or Port Canaveral since they are all reasonable drives... have also used Tampa, Miami, NYC, and soon New Orleans.

My favorites were the 2 Trans-Atlantics we have done from Spain. That required flight, but was an outstanding experience.

  3. Do they normally get offered on Saturdays?I just signed up and already have 12,600 points.Did a bunch of quizzes.ANyone know how they give points for quizzes? Is it how many answers you get correct or just for doing it?I see points popping up after a few quizzes.

Do you have to make sure you don't repeat a quiz to get points?I went in and did same quiz twice, without realizing it.

You can only earn 5000 points a day through quiz answers. Once you have done the quiz once you cant get more points from it.

I just started at the top of the list and worked my way down... when I hit 4k for the day I stopped. Then start where I left off the next day.

You also get 75 points for logging on each day, 150 if you have a fitbit and hit 10000 steps daily ( and link it ) 150 when you get news letters, and use the code they give.

I am sitting at 37k right now, with nothing really to do with them. I use 5k periodically to get $500 worth of CC gift cards but that is about it.

  4. Are all the Havana Cabins in every category already sold out into 2019? Or do we need to call Carnival to book a Havana cabin?

Every date I'm looking at has no Havana's on either Vista or Horizon. Is it possible they were scooped up by travel agents?

They are very popular cabins. Keep checking, people often times will drop them as time goes on.

  5. I am sorry if this has been addressed, or in the wrong forum.

We are wanting our 16 year old to do this excursion while we relax at Margaritaville. My question is - are they really that close that is something happens we can be there quickly?

    Thanks In Advance!

It is on the ocean side edge of their pool. Less than 100 yards total.

  6. i know you get a free bottle of wine at the steakhouse the 1st night, does that also include the Italian restaurant also?

They used to give a half a bottle of the house Chianti, have not been on the first day in a few years though.

  7. I have acquired a few discounted E Gift Cards and was looking into purchasing a few more but wanted to double check some stuff; don't want to purchase more if we need the money itself.

We will be sailing on the Paradise in July. Pretty much all our money is for drinks & casino. We don't buy much on the boats, maybe a souvenir and that's all. I know you can put the e gift cards on your sail & sign card but I just want to confirm if we do that we can use the funds in the casino? Some places do not allow you to use gift card funds for the casino.

Do you give them your gift cards at the start of the cruise and it's just applied towards your sign and sail account basically as a budgeted amount or do you tie the sign and sail to the credit card and when you're done hand in the gift cards to pay on the balance you've accumulated during the cruise? I want to make sure a card is still tied to our account just in case we exceed our gift card balances.

Can I per-purchase Cheers with the e gift cards?

    Thank you!

Lets start with Cheers, unless they finally fixed the system then no.. but you are supposed to be able to go to guest services on board and say you tried to buy using gift cards but were not able too. And they will honor the price.

As to casino funds, they casino will let you draw money from your S&S account from the slot machine ( no fee ) and from the tables ( 3%) fee. The casino does not care how the money gets to the S&S account.

What this means for you is that you can open your account as cash, and then go to guest services and apply all the gift cards ( will take awhile since they are egift cards, lots of typing ). Or you can put a credit card on the account and go down later and apply them as you use the money in the casino.

Either way, you end up using the gift cards to pay down the balance of your S&S before the end of the cruise. Anything left over in debt will be billed either to the cash you started with or your Credit Card.

  8. It is supposed to be in the cabin, unless they are married. It has been quite awhile since I have had to worry about this, but I think they might not let you book.

The staff on the ship will not care. You might have to book the room so that you are in her room, and someone else that is over 25 is in the room with her boyfriend. Then when you get on the ship go to Guest services with everyone in your party and have them make new keys for you to the rooms that you want everyone staying in.

This process takes about 10 minutes and is very common. I have done it several times so that my inlaws could get better booking rates.. My wife with her mom, and me with her dad. Then 10 minutes at Guest services we are all swapped with no issues.

  9. Several years ago, I was on the Sensation. I was playing Texas Holdem at the PokerPro table. The table was full, and two of the players were sloppy drunk. One of them was in a huge hand, and lost on the last card. He got so mad he used the Bud Light can he was drinking from to smash the touch pad screen in front of him. He literally destroyed it... I was next to him and got doused in beer and glass... not cool. The other drunk was cheering him on.

Carnival cut him off, and made him pay for it before he left the ship two days later.

  10. We are pretty loyal Carnival folks, ( see signature below) but when we started looking at Alaska, we made the decision for Princess. I am not sure how good the service or the food or anything else will be, but hands down I have read almost nothing put positive things about their Alaska experience.

For example, in Skagway, the are going to bring sled dog puppies onto the ship for pictures and enrichment with the guests. I am really looking forward to other things like this as well.

I suggest giving Princess a solid look, to see what they have to offer in terms of Alaska.

  11. And then you can attend the Captain's party for Diamonds. Some have been just drinks and hors d 'ouvres or canapes. others have been sit down brunches with the Captain and officers sharing your table. Strictly the Captain's choice which party he picks.

On the Vista Thanksgiving repo cruise NY to MIA, we had about 125 Diamonds - and I heard that on the Vista TA there were several hundred Diamonds. On most of the other (normal) 7 day cruises there were 10 to 20.

You can do a B2B or a long Journeys cruise to get to the D level.

And congrats to the OP, enjoy all your Plat perks cause you've earned them!

Pretty sure on the Vista TA there were over 300 Diamond. There were 1600 Platinum.

It was actually usually faster to use the regular guest service line then the priority line.

Congratulations OP on your Platinum status! Now set your sites higher to Diamond, just 150 days to go...

  12. Sorry I have some pictures but I am not sure how to add them to the site

You have to use a third party hosting site, like google or photobucket.

Then you tag the HTML into the window pointing to the picture. I think CC does not want to manage the space involved with thousands of peoples pictures, so they only allow you to post links to them.

    Thanks for trying.

  13. We own stock. How do I go about getting the shateholder benefit?

you have to own at least 100 shares, in the name of someone booked in the cabin.

I always email them at guestAdmin@carnival.com and provide them with a copy of my latest statement from the brokerage company. I just did this for my August cruise and had the OBC in 3 business days.

Make sure to privide your booking number so they can figure out where you want it applied.

  14. The email I received about it says it can only be applied to cruise fare, and to fill out a form with cruise booking #, etc. to apply it to the fare. Anyone else know the answer to my original question?

You should call Canrival to verify, but I believe you will get it as another credit if you cancel again. We had to do this earlier in the year, and I am 90% sure that is what my PVP said. We shouldnt have to test it, as we leave on June 3rd for the cruise we moved it too...

    Hope that helps.

  15. your explanation is a little confusing. IRA's may contain individual stocks, mutual funds, bonds and other holdings. This is really no different than having a 100 shares of stock other than you can not cash them until you are 62 without penalty. Same difference I guess

Some IRA's and most 401k's dont allow you to have individual stocks, they are all block mutual funds or bonds.

I had to open a different type of IRA with Edward Jones to get them to invest in a specific stock for me.

I am sure I can go somewhere else and not have had that issue, but I just wanted to make sure that people understand that if they have the option in their IRA/401k then they can do use that. I was first told that I needed it in a brokerage account, which I am glad I followed up with Carnival about because I have gotten at least $1500 in OBC by now.

  16. I think there is an excursion in KW that does bar hopping. I could be wrong. Again.

There is one, it was fun. The only down side was it was 4 bars in about 2.5 hrs. So about the time I was starting to feel comfortable sitting and talking they moved us to another bar.

We docked downtown. Dont recall the names of the bars, but pretty much any of them we stopped by ( quite a few ) were nice. Lots have live music during the day too.

  17. Thanks! we are doing the 7day in Oct Was hoping to try a different ship as we have been on the Ecstasy twice

Sadly, the Port of Charlestons is in downtown Charleston SC which has fought having cruise ships there for years. They have stopped an effort to upgrade the terminal, and to allow anything larger to be brought in. Mostly the argument is about keeping downtown Charleston the way it always has been, ( historic) but the other argument is traffic and noise.

The terminal is just not that large, and it would be tough to bring in something larger, as they could not handle that many people at once.

That being said, I really enjoyed the Esctacy and the only thing I really missed was the option to go to the Steakhouse for dinner. Ordering it in the main dining room is just not the same.. I would have sailed on her again in 2 weeks if the timing had lined up, instead we are driving 1 hr and 15 minutes longer to Jacksonville.

  18. Thank you!! I'm not real savvy with stocks, but may check into that.

The price is way up right now ( good for us current holders, not so good for people looking to get 100 shares ) at about $61.

If you have an IRA or a 401k that allows individual stocks to be purchased that will count as well. You dont have to have a traditional brokerage account to get the credit. Mine are in my IRA, and I know someone who has them in her 401k. You just have to be able to provide a statement showing the number of shares, and the owner for Carnival Corp to credit you the stock credit.
