  1. When is it single file? Every time I have gone through parking there are at least 3 lanes. One of the lanes is for FTTF/priority guests and that line is cleared out before the others are allowed to begin moving through.

It looks like it is single file when you first come in to the lines. And at 12-2pm while I am up on lido sitting in the shade watching cars the snake around to get to where you split to multiple line they often look stuck in a non moving line.

Keep in mind, since we have not gone through the process in years... ( choose to stay at a hotel that keeps the car) I cant say for sure, and I might be drinking my beer relaxing out of the main path, thus a bit hazzy.. I just could have sworn that there was a single file line right when you come in that snaked a good bit before they get to the paperwork check.

  2. The rooms are decorated different, like you are in Havana, or so they say... They give you special soaps, which are ok.

But the biggest and best reason to book them is that you have private access from morning until 7pm to the Havana area in the aft of the ship, with a pool and two hot tubs. Also shaded and un-shaded seats... it is always easy to find space in the pool and the seats and it is just so relaxing.

We stayed a total of 21 days in an inside on deck 5 and I would never sail on a ship that has Havana access again without sailing in a Havana cabin.

  3. Thanks all. We are booked on the 6/4 sailing from Norfolk. I am hearing the crowding concerns. We have a balcony so worst case we will just sit out there and watch the sea. We are not big into shows and activities; we just relax and chill mostly so maybe we will not be too put out by the crowds. Hopefully we can get a nice spot in the serenity area which looks to be much larger than the RCI ships we usually go on.

Question: How diligent is Carnival (and this ship in particular) in enforcing the "over 21" rule? We have been in the RCI Liberty class solarium and there were people with their kids in the "over 21" hot tubs on many occasions. We are not anti-family by any means but we do enjoy having a place to relax without young ones running and jumping, especially since there are so many areas for them other than the adult areas.

They are usually pretty good about it. I have seen people asked nicely to leave, that were not over 21.

As to your ship, I have been on her and it was a mixed bag for me. I really enjoyed the waterfall serenity pool, but the I did find that she was a bit more crowded than I prefer. We are looking at doing a 8 day Bermuda cruise on her late next year, so it was not all bad.

  4. Funny story about the duck... my wife is a very picky eater, and to convince her to go to JiJi I had to pre-plan her meal showing her that there was something that she would eat on each course. For the app course, we went with the chicken spring rolls ( might be egg rolls ) for her, and I got the duck.

When it was brought out, she looked at mine and asked if she might try it. I am all for having her try new things, so I said sure. She took a small bite, looked down at her spring rolls, and pushed them to my side of the table and took my duck!

It is fall off the bone, tender, and extremely delicious. She gets it every time we eat their now.

JiJi overall is a very good experience, I like it better than Cucina. Though I prefer Asian food to Italian. I hope you decide to go and try it out.

  5. Ggggrrrrr....thanks. As a Type A planner this makes me crazy lol. I guess Ill just make my other specialty restaurants and adjust if needed. Do you happen to remember if your dinner was scheduled on a sea or port day?

It all depends on how many people book. Since the Vista is the only ship currently in the fleet with a specific dinning room for this in the galley, they book as many as they can to re-coup the cost of the space.

On our Trans-Atlantic there were 12 nights of chef's table on a 13 day cruise ( skipped only embark day). On our 8 day last month, when I went to check on getting a steak house reservation I asked and they said they currently had 4 days full. They might have added more, if enough people showed interest on the ship.

If you book it, and get confirmation, just swing by the Steak house on the first day and ask when your reservation is. They will also want to verify your food allergies then as well.

  6. FTTF jumps you to the front of every line, including the line to park at the terminal.

Interesting concept.... how do you get past all the other cars in the single file line, that is surrounded by concrete?

We always do a park and stay in Charleston, so just get dropped off at the shuttle drop off..

I always love getting a Thirsty Red beer and watching the cars snake around the parking area, just never saw a place where you could skip to the front.

  7. Based on old threads i read, its 10 real tables and real dealers, and you play different flights until you can all play together. Expect each session to last 5-6 hours (provided you dont lose all your chips). If you google it you will see prior year stories about it

Thanks, I had only found one and it was somewhat complete but there was some things that confused me... and it was from 2014...

Still trying to decide if it is worth the effort of shifting things around to make this cruise...

  8. Hello all,

I won the right to play in the 2017 Texas Holdem Pokerpro Challenge on August 27th 2017 on-board the Carnival Dream.

I am wondering if anyone has ever played in one of these before...

If so, do they play on port days? or is it like the casino that they shut down due to being in port.

Do they bring in more tables for this ( digital tables ) or are we actually going to have human dealers?

I have read estimates that it will be between 350-400 players, does that seem right from previous years?

Assuming that I don't lose quickly, how long is each play session scheduled for..

Thanks in advance for any info you might be able to share!

  9. I could be wrong on this... but it looks like Exuma is a different island, and one that is not all that close... depending where on the island between 20-80 miles away.

I personally would not take the chance, if you take a boat that is a long ride, and if you fly it is also dependent on getting clear to land on time.

Back on board will always be 30 minutes prior to sail away.. so 4:30 is the time in Nassau..

  10. I agree with your PVP. If he cant go, just have him be a no show.

That way they cant reassign the room, or charge you more ( though I doubt they would at this point ) for the room.

It works like you said, when you get to the pier and are checking in, let them know he could not make it. They will flag it in the system and you will then be able to board 1 person short.

For the Steakhouse reservations, I would go to the Steak house after you board, say around 1 pm and let them know that you need to change them to 1 person less, and that the name holder could not make it. We have changed reservations several times in the past with no issues.

  11. I don't eat at fast food type establishments, but I have to say I probably eat at Olive Garden once a year (when visiting my parents they like it ugh!) and Ruby Tuesday perhaps 4 times a year, other than that I stay away from all those bad places, but I used those two places to compare Carnival food because I mostly dine at 4/5 star restaurants and there is NO COMPARISON comparing these types of upscale restaurants to what Carnival offers.

Are you adopting? I can eat with the dog... I am not to picky.

  12. Pandora Jewelry!!

John Heald posted a video today in which he is scanning the atrium while saying that he can't give any hints and then the video finishes with him focusing on a big Pandora banner hanging in the atrium. Also I see that someone else has commented that it is listed in the Fun Times today as well.

Oh well, I'm sure there are some excited people somewhere!?!?

I am excited!!! it means there is another thing taking up space on the ship I do NOT have to spend money on...

  13. Right now I have 64 cruise days. I have a B2B on Dream (7nights each) in August so beginning the 2nd leg I'll have 71 cruise days.

I think I get platinum status on the second leg, right? Will Carnival's tracking system show it for the second leg or will I likely need to go to guest services to get shown as platinum?

It won't matter a check of a lot except for the laundry benefit.

    Thanks!

When you check into the second leg of your B2B you will be considered Platinum. You MIGHT have to go to Guest services to get this fixed, because it takes the system a few days to credit cruises back. If you cruise is properly marked as a B2B it should automatically be updated.

Congratulations on making Platinum and having a B2B!

  14. I can understand what the OP means, she probably meant and this is my thinking also, that most of the meat that is served to passengers on a Carnival ship I wouldn't even give it to my dog.

Wow, your dog must eat better than me.

OP, sorry that you did not have good meals on the ship. I hope you enjoy your future cruises!

  15. So hubby wants bring our alotted amount of wine on board and purchase a bottle or 2 of Vodka and mixers to have in the room..... I hate the idea of having to go back to the room for refills, so I wanna just get the drink package... Mr. Frugal doesn't wanna spend the extra money on the package thoughts?

I would tell him that you dont plan to go back to the room each time you want a drink. You will just order it from the bar.

If he wants to go get you a drink as fast as they can, that is fine, else the bill for the cruise will be higher cause you plan to be on vacation and have a drink when you like from the bar.

  16. I was reading somewhere else about a person saying they were cut off for the remainder of the cruise for no reason. Anyone experience problems?

I personally have not... but I was with someone who was.

It was not for CHEERs however. We went to port in Isle Roatan and she might have drank a little.... ok ALOT to much... She had to be brought back on the ship in a wheel chair, directly into the medical bay, and had 3 bags of iv put into her. She was fine in the long run, but they cut her off for drinking the rest of the cruise.

They told us, as the adults that brought her in, and she actually confirmed two days later when she went to get a mimosa in the morning that she was cut off.

  17. I swear, give them something for free and they will still complain.

And this one, you sure it just wasn't somethng your husband "found" somewhere?

Just for ref, I am not complaining, nor did I really plan to post in this discussion. I find it sad you have to be not nice to people who offer up issues with their service.

They have lost our laundry, burnt a shirt ( literally had burn marks and a brand new hole surrounded by a burn mark), shrunk a pair of cotton shorts, and the laundry that does come back is always rough and wrinkled horribly.

I would not recommend using the service at all... we stopped about 4 years ago. I just go use the machine if I need to wash something, and that only happens on cruises longer than 10 days.

  18. If you booked Early Saver, $500 seems high to lose.

If you were to cancel you should have to pay a $50 per person fee ( $100 assuming two of you, of course there could be 10 of you in multiple cabins)... and the rest of the deposit should be moved into an account that they will apply to any future booking. That is if it is done before Final Payment is actually due. After it gets much more expensive...

  19. Interesting read...

When I did my first cruise in 2000, it was my honeymoon and we were flat broke... We still spent more than we should have somewhere in the $1000 range for a 5 day. Was just adding to the credit card debt....

Fast forward to 2006 and on... I have managed to get my finances under control, ( debt free) and can now afford to cruise 2+ times a year... in 2006 we were spending less than $20 per day on the ship... now for a 5 day I am back to budgeting about $1000... It seems the more cruises we go on, the more we spend per day..

That does not count excursions... often times we do not bother with them, we just go explore the port, or take a cab to the downtown area of town.. We always bring about $200 more for stuff like that, and cash tipping.

  20. We were told by our Princess Vacation Planner that they would come on board in Skagway.

She did not know how long they would stay onboard.. I was hoping to get more info when the season actually starts.

  21. It would be awesome if a moderator could merge all 8 of these gift card threads that are on the front page.

They dont tend to do that...

We can always let the thread die... but personally I rather like the new tread, as reading through the older ones could be people just commenting on stuff ( how hard it is to get, or points or what ever) instead of saying they are available...

BTW, $100 are still available, but $500 are sold out.
