  1. I'm excited to read the rest - we too have sailed the W. Caribbean too many times, but being from Texas - it is nice to finally be able to cruise from a port somewhat close to home.

We're in the same boat - have nothing planned as far as excursions go. We've done the Mexican Cuisine and Cooking class twice - enjoyed it, but wouldn't do it a third time!

MNH - we'll be your neighbors in 10666 on March 7th!

Fantastic! I am so excited....taking my 2 GD...16 and 11. They both love to cruise and have been on 24 and 14 cruises respectively!

We are going to Nachi Cocom in Cozumel (we went there for the first time in October and loved it) other than that we have not idea what we are doing in the other ports.

  2. My granddaughter is 16 and has been cruising with me since she was 2...she is preparing to go on her 24th cruise with me this March. When she left the kids club to go to the teens club she was "scared".....she would walk around...around it and finally got enough nerve to go inside. Bottom line....she had a great time and she meets tons of kids from all over the nation when we cruise. She has boundaries and for the most part keeps up her end of the bargain. Only once did she break curfew and I found her, a bunch of teens and the teen counselor eating pizza at the pool deck....she got the wrath from me and has never broken curfew again!

  3. I agree the pool is too small but most new ships have smaller pools. I don't get in the pool but I do go and watch my tween granddaughter. I sat between the adult and the kids pool and lucky for me I always found a shady place to sit.

I saw/heard a band several times while I was at the pool and thought that it was so much better than a DJ....we usually spent late mornings or early afternoons at the pool so maybe it was timing?

I have not been on Allure but I have been on Oasis twice and IMHO the only cruise line that I have been on that could rival Oasis was Disney.

All in All I did enjoy The Getaway :)

  4. I purchased the $20 replenish package for myself and 2 teen granddaughters in March....we loved it! Everytime we headed back to the cabin we picked up a bottled water and had water for the week. I don't drink a lot of cocktails but I loved the mock cocktails! During peak times there is a line for specialty coffees.

  5. Fantastic review! I cruised on The Getaway in July with my 11 year old granddaughter and we loved it, I have been on 47 cruises and this was one of my favorites. I hope to go back next summer with my 16 year old granddaughter who also loves to cruise, she has cruised 24 times and is studying hospitality/tourism. She is considering becoming a cruise director so I think she would also love The Getaway!

  6. I am going to arrive on 10-19-14 to sail on Navigator on 10-19-14....trying to decide which flight....will probably get in around 9:30...I think I have decided to suck it up and booked a private car. I have checked with Supper Shuttle and they don't have a shuttle service available unless you book the entire van..this cost as much as a private car.

It will end up costing me approx. $80 more to hire a private car and get to the port when I want as opposed to waiting 2 more hours for Galveston Limo Shuttle....in the long run it is worth it to me and I am not going to stress about it...I will be on a cruise!

  7. I did save about $500 on an October cruise.....what kills me is them asking do you want your D+ discount of $200 (cruise under 6 months) or the $100 OBC...Duh....sometimes I think they think we don't compare prices.

Although I know they will not combine Loyalty Discounts, it does "urk" me...a $100 OBC probably costs them much less in drinks or products etc. that you purchase on ships....but that is the way it is and I will still have a great time!

  8. I usually drive to Galveston with my grandkids, but this time I am meeting friends on the ship. I have flown into Hobby in years past and used Galveston Limo Shuttle.....they earliest they leave Hobby is now 11:30. Well I am one of those type A's who want to be at the port by 10:30 (fortunate enough to have priority boarding!).

Does anyone know of a shuttle service that leaves earlier or should I schedule a private service?

    Thanks

  9. I am 63 and thinking about a solo cruise....I think the hardest part for me would be dinner.....I cruise with 2 teen girls so for the most part I am "solo" but most nights I have a dinner buddies!

  10. I'm on that cruise-and have been looking at rates for several months. Finally, jumped on Pack N Go Balcony for $988+ Taxes just last week. Ended up on Deck 9. So that's a great deal. Make sure to check on Carnival using different rates to see if you can just get a full balcony. Sometime there is a link for alternative rates. Join us on roll call

I have a PVP that I have used forever and I really want to get away so I called him yesterday and set my perameters! He called me back with the offer today, I have until 10:00 in the morning to pay....I am 99.9% sure I will!

I will check out the roll call....although I have been on 48 cruises, this would be only my 2nd solo...the first one we were fogged in sitting on the ship in Galveston for 2 days.....I finally just off the ship. I am thinking I should give solo cruising one more chance, sometimes it is hard to find a cruising buddy who can or wants to cruise as much as I do!
