  1. I was honored to share a Fruits de Mer at Rudi’s with @kazu I believe that she would agree that it was the best lobster we had on the Rotterdam TA. I think that she will confirm that it was a cold water (Maritime?) lobster. 🦞
  2. Are you asking about lunch in the Pinnacle on sea days? I believe the latest lunch reservation was 1 or maybe 1:30. You can't make lunch reservations until you are on the ship. Make your reservations as soon as you board. If you are talking about dinner, times at 8 or later are usually easier to reserve. I make my specialty dinner reservations prior to boarding.
  3. Agreed. I am embarrassed that it is described as “Baltimore style”. No blue crab lumps, no old bay. I have brought this up to numerous chefs during coffee talks and always make note of it on the post cruise survey. I feel sorry for people who order it but I feel worse for people who have never had the opportunity to experience a real Baltimore crabcake.
  4. More Good Today Day…I appreciate the Daily posters who show kindness and generosity every day. I have been reading a lot about Antarctica in preparation for my trip. I really enjoyed The Last Viking: The Life of Roald Amundsen by Stephen R Bown. An amazing man who explored the Northwest Passage, the Northeast Passage, the South Pole and the North Pole. @marshhawk I think the best way to freeze ham is before you “bake” it. Peel off enough slices for a meal. Wrap in Saran Wrap. After all slices are wrapped, place in Ziplock. Use within three months. Btw, I do not bake Honey Baked ham. I put the slices needed for the meal on a serving dish and allow to come to room temperature. Baking these hams causes them to dry out. After all meat is off the bone, make an easy stock by simmering the bone in water for 3 hours. Makes the best bean soup.
  5. With regards to FOLLOW, I am using my IPhone. Click follow below this response.
  6. FYI for those looking for transportation from the airport to their hotel. “Remis” serve Ministro Pistarini International Airport. A remis (car and driver) is a private car, operating rides to the destination of the client’s choice. Thus, are remis and taxis the same thing? No. While Ezeiza airport taxis are metered and have their price formed by the taximeter, remises offer set prices according to the distance between the pick-up point and the destination’s location. Moreover, the fare for the remises services must be prepaid either online or at one of the company’s official desks. The remises kiosks are at the terminals’ public areas, right next to the customs. My understanding is that there they are "safer" than a taxi. I plan on using Manuel Tienda León although there are other companies available at the airport. If anyone has any additional info about remises, I would appreciate it.
  7. Glad you have arrived safely to your hotel. How did you get from the airport to your hotel? I was thinking of using a remiss. My understanding that the desks are located within the secure customs area and use can use a credit card.
  8. Have you spoken to the manager? Commented on the Navigator App? You have been very patient with the Club Orange dining room but your experience is not acceptable and someone who can do something needs to know about it.
  9. I thought I read that they have a booklet at Guest Services about the ship's art. In the interest of an easier art project @POA1, could you check? Maybe just send a message through the Navigator app.
  10. @POA1i am enjoying this thread! When eating a patty in Jamaica, I find them to be similar to empanadas but the crust tends to be flakier, the filling is meat or seafood (often spicy) and they are baked instead of fried.
  11. Thank you to all who make the Daily a special place. Sir Francis Drake was a privateer for Queen Elizabeth I and one of the first British slave traders. A woman named Maria was taken off of a Spanish ship and brought on the Golden Hind. Nine months later, pregnant, she was abandoned on an island. On Wilder Seas: The Woman on the Golden Hind by Nikki Margery is a historical fiction account of her experience and a novel I enjoyed reading. Positive thoughts to those who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.
  12. Chanukak House Pikesville, MD Wishing all who celebrate, peace and light this holiday season.
  13. We usually travel with only a carry on. I realize it may be 100F in Buenos Aires and 32F or lower in Antartica. I may need to check a bag for our cold weather gear. I plan on layering. With regards to packing, just wondering, as you cruise, if there is anything you are extremely happy you brought or something you wish you would have brought. Wishing on time flights and the ability to sleep during your transatlantic.
  14. Thank you for taking us along @NorbertsNiece! We will be on the Oosterdam SA & Antarctica cruise departing on January 29. I am especially interested in packing tips, excursion experiences and activities during sea days. I am hopeful that there will be a lecturer onboard to give us insights into the area. Safe travels!
  15. The best place to celebrate National Poinsettia Day would be at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. If you are ever in the Philadelphia or Baltimore area, this is an amazing garden to visit regardless of the season. The conservatory displays for the holiday are outstanding, particularly the poinsettia trees. When I think of ambrosia, I think of Easter. My PA Dutch grandma always made it with canned pineapple, mandarin oranges and maraschino cherries, freshly whipped cream with grated coconut on top. Brings back a nice memory. Image teaching Camus to 10th grade World Literature students… I believe the quote means that you need to take time to enjoy life and be fully present. I believed there has been a “canned” EXC talk on Marconi on every HAL cruise in recent memory. A great man but time for HAL to come up with some new material. Positive thoughts to those who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.
  16. @cccole I have seen the same 150 anniversary (silver) menu on the 2 cruises I took this year on 2 different ships in 2 different regions. I am also on a 22 day SA cruise. Have you how loaded the Navigator App and looked at the menus? I do every morning. Menus are very similar with some excellent regional “port to table” additions.@LAFFNVEGAS Sorry for the hijack🏴‍☠️
  17. I am able to book excursions for my January 2025 cruise to Hawaii. Actually, one excursion is already sold out. Several excursions are sold out for my August 2024 Norway cruise. So many people with HIA causes excursions to sell out quickly. Specialty dining is not yet available for either cruise; that occurs about 4 months before the cruise.
  18. @cruising sister I love to cook but I am not a baker (to precise). I buy Bauducco panettone at my grocery store. It is readily available during the holidays at many stores in the US. It makes excellent French toast and bread pudding.
  19. I suggest you follow this very interesting thread which focus on the food on a different Pinnacle class ship. Chefs rotate but HAL dictates the menus which are remarkable similar except for the Port to Table items which are specific to the country in which you are sailing.
  20. I always ask for my fish “medium rare”; then it is usually prepared perfectly.
  21. I love coconut and trifle. What is served at the Pinnacle is not a trifle. Where is the sponge cake? Where is the alcohol? Why is it served in that weird glass? I will not be ordering again.
  22. We received an offer to “pay early” for $100 in OBC in mid October for a cruise whose final payment was due 12/3. We took advantage of it.
  23. I always ask for side order of plain vegetables. Since we have fixed dining, after the first night, my waiter brings me a side plate every evening. If I see a vegetable that I like, served with a main course I am not ordering, I will request it. Asking for extra vegetables has never been a problem.
  24. Emailed them on the 12/2. My confirmation was in my junk mail folder on 12/9. has been confirmed for your arrival date of March xx, 2024 for 1 room for 1 night for 2 adults at the ValueTrips.com rate of $289.00 plus tax, per room per night.
