  1. Narrowing down our possible dates to go it's looking like the Dream out of NOLA with stops in Mohogany Bay, Cozumel and Belize. After talking with DH we agree that it's not a huge deal to expand our departure port so i've also found one out of Ft. Lauderdale (less than a day drive/cheap flight) on the Conquest with stops in Nassau, Half moon Cay and Grand Turk. Just based on what i've read in a few short hours i have to lean towards the Conquest for the itinerary. Of these two, itinerary wise, what are your experiences? I've been to Nassau and IF we even get off the ship we would probably go to Blue Lagoon. I know the two itineraries are probably apples to oranges but still looking for advice/tips/preferences.

Is there a way to change the title of the thread since i've obviously gone away from the original question?

Mahogany Bay, Cozumel and Belize is a much more interesting itinerary than Nassau, HMC, and Grand Turk, if destination is important to you, with HMC being a possible exception. Just my two cents.
  2. LOL, that made me giggle.

I like both MDR and buffet...just depends on my mood and my schedule. I agree with the above posters that if you like scrambled or fried eggs, then definitely get them at the omelette station so they are freshly made and not powdered. The Dr Suess breakfast is a lot of fun and good food. I even liked the steak and eggs there better than the sea day brunch steak and eggs. I admit that I have young children...but there were several tables with just teenage kids or no kids at all.

:) I like both too... just having a little fun. Glad I got a giggle out of someone.

  3. I love breakfast on the cruise ships!!

I'm sure you'll figure it out. Each day is different and im sure she'll try all the options.

Exactly! I would never (nor do I think anyone else would) form eating habits/preferences totally, based on the internet posts of strangers. Yes, try all the options and see what best suits you. That's the way to go.
  4. Since Neapolitan pizza pre-dates NY pizza, and is where pizza originated, it is the Carnival pizza that is traditional and original, not the Princess pizza. There is nothing trendy about Neapolitan pizza - it has stood the test of time much longer than NY style.

I think we're just seeing an increased appreciation for original, traditional Italian pizza - and while Carnival food is generally substandard, they get the Steakhouse and pizza right.

I am Towel Critter and I approve this message. :)
  5. I've had both Princess and Carnival's new style pizza and I agree with you completely.
I was looking at a rating of cruise line pizza yesterday and Princess came in at #1. If I remember correctly, Silversea and Disney each claimed one of the spots at #2 and #3. Carnival claimed the #4 spot... pretty impressive... ahead of MSC, an Italian line, who didn't make the top 5. Of course, how they determined the rankings wasn't mentioned. I'm not sure how anyone could possibly do a side by side comparison. Prolly meaningless.
  6. Princess pizza is a traditional, new York style, thin crust. Very good. Carnival is similar to the new trendy style pizza made at places like Pieology. Also good.
Since Pieology is new, they must have stolen the recipe from Carnival, who have been serving it for several years. Carnival should sue them. :D
  7. Does anyone know whom I should contact within Carnival to request a new port of call on western US itineraries?

How come no cruise line cruises to Las Vegas? How cool would, that be. Your thoughts...

Sent from my iPad using Forums

I would contact John Heald. He practically runs Carnival. I'm sure if you asked him nicely and perhaps mentioned you had some issues on your last cruise he'd be more than happy to make it happen. j/k :D

  8. In post 18 of this thread I said I was told by a chef the Fantasy class ships' pizza galleys could not be retrofitted to accommodate the new pizza ovens installed on other ships for the new style of pizza. A couple of people jumped in to shoot this down and say it was just the same pizza. I was on both Imagination and the Miracle in 2015 and the menus were different and the Imagination did NOT serve the new, crispy style pizza we have come to enjoy on the Miracle.

In 2015 the lead sous chef explained to me that the location of the pizza galley at the aft end of lido (and not being located in the middle of the lido dining room nearer to the galley where the buffet line foods are prepped) was the reason. The aft pizza galley could not be knocked down and reconfigured for the new pizza ovens and other equipment needed to convert. Now, did he lie or concoct a story? Maybe, but when hearing how much I was looking forward to some of the quattro formaggi pizza I had had on the Miracle he bent over backward to ensure that bleu cheese and a white sauce be available for the 4 days I was aboard Imagination. I appreciated the crew going above and beyond and posted a letter to Carnival and named names in my review here on Cruise Critic posted under the Cruise Reviews section for excellent service.

Ah! I somehow missed post #18. That's good news to me, since we never sail on Fantasy class ships (at least we haven't so far). This bit of info, in my mind at least, explains SOME of the drastically different opinions on Carnival pizza. Of course personal taste, or lack thereof, explains the rest. Thanks for the info and sorry I missed it the first time. I thought I had read every post on this thread. :)
  9. Most pizzas they serve has less sauce.

problem with pizza stations is often one crewmember working there and cannot keep up with demand so line gets ridiculous.

Yep. The lines are the one negative about getting pizza on Carnival. I've seen pretty long lines even on nights when two crewmembers were churning out pies. But looking at it with a glass half full mentality, I suppose the lines are evidence that a LOT of cruisers really enjoy those pizzas! I know I do.:)
  10. I suggest you try both the MDR and Lido buffet. That way you won't have to wonder if you missed something you might have enjoyed. True, the eggs at least are better in the MDR, but it's nice to sit by a big plate glass window with an ocean view while you have breakfast, so the buffet has its advantages. It's also faster, should you be in a hurry. But try both! Why not?

  11. We had the good pizza on Sensation recently, but last March we were on the Paradise and could not even eat it. A common sight in the Lido was plates of pizza with one or two bites and the rest left on the plate.

Does anyone know what pizza the Elation out of Jacksonville has. We will be on it in a few months.

I've never experienced this "bad" pizza, though I've read other reports of it in the past. Is it just on certain ships?
  12. Never have seen the cookies and I usually have pizza at midnight. Ditto for the pasta.
I think the cookies are a new thing. I saw mention of it on another thread. I don't know if they are now available 24 hrs or just during a certain time.
  13. Still the same. A lot of the Miami 3-night cruises go to just Nassau and overnight (they leave at like 7am the next morning). The formal night is still the night after embarkation. (The Saturday night if embarking on Friday)
Thanks. I've never done a three nighter before, so I wasn't sure how they would handle that.
