  1. Yes, it is an issue with the Trenitalia site. In the time section put in a time as many hours earlier as your location is different from Italy. For example, to see trains at 7 AM, if you are on the east coast of the Staes, enter 1 AM. Also be aware that the regional trains from Civitavecchia use auxiliary tracks located three city blocks from the main track head at Termini. Be sure there is sufficient time to get yourself and your luggage from one train to the other (500 meters/three-tenths of a mile).
  2. Yes, there is a six euro shuttle to the train station. However, it may not be up and running as early as you want to get off the ship. According to the Port Mobility website, the shuttle starts at 7 AM: Civitavecchia Train Station | Port Mobility Civitavecchia Let's assume you get on the 7 AM shuttle, with the time it takes to load passengers and luggage I wouldn't plan on making the short trip to the train station until 7:30, to be on the safe side. There's no need nor benefit to purchasing the Civitavecchia to Rome portion of this trip in advance as there are no seat assigned trains until 9:16 AM, which I assume is well after you want to be going. All of the earlier trains are regionales, which cannot be sold out as they have no capacity limitation. There is a cost benefit to purchasing the Rome to Florence segment in advance but if you miss the train the ticket is worthless, it cannot be changed, applied to another train, or refunded. There is zero chance of being shut out if you elect to wait and purchase your ticket on the day of travel; between Trenitalia and Italotreno, the two long distance/high speed train operators, there are several trains each hour. If you do decide to purchase in advance, buy directly from the train companies rather than through a middleman. This will greatly ease the process if you have any issues along the way. 3. There is an issue currently with the Trenitalia site. It adjusts for your time zone, so if you are on the east coast of the US it adds six hours to the time you input. Just subtract the number of hours your time zone is different from Rome and you'll get the full schedule.
  4. They explain the process here: Shuttles | Port Mobility Civitavecchia You take the Green line (aka Line A) to the Largo della Pace depot, where you switch to the light blue line (aka Line B), this one goes directly to pier 25.
  5. So far in July I see the Coral Princess at 13N and the Enchanted Princess at 25S. Nothing predictable. Cruises from the Port of Civitavecchia in July 2023 | Port Mobility Civitavecchia In case you don't have it, the port map is here:
  6. Enchanted Princess was at 12BN one time and at 25S another time in June, so there's no consistency or apparently no limitation based on the size of the ship. Unfortunately I didn't see any other Princess ships in port during the month. You can walk among the ships on the cruise pier, berths 10 - 13, but not around the area of berth 25 where the mega ships port.
  7. Rather than take this thread off topic, simply start a new thread. That will be helpful to others who may have the same question as you do, but would never find it buried here.
  8. If you take a Frecce train to Rome Termini, get off there and go downstairs to the metro, line B, direction Laurentina. Get off at the second exit, Colosseo. As you exit the station you'll be staring at the Colosseum, right across the street. Map of regional rail and metro lines here: mappa ferro e tram (giu 2022) (atac.roma.it) If you take a regionale train, get off at Roma Ostiense and follow signs for the Piramide metro station (there is an underground passage). Take the metro, Line B, direction Jonio or Rebibbia, for two stops to Colosseo.
  9. It's fine to buy Frecce (fast, non stop train) tickets in advance, but there's no point in purchasing the regional tickets in advance because they never sell out and there's no price incentive to buy early. The first Frecce you could make isn't until 9:16 (arrives Rome Termini at 10:03), so you'd have plenty of time to make that one. In addition to the cruise line shuttle there is a port shuttle bus for 6 euro that takes you from your ship/terminal directly to the train station in Civitavecchia.
  10. Sorry, my bad. I read your comment to mean you couldn't get off until 8 AM. An hour is about right for a private transfer from Civitavecchia to the airport.
  11. Yes, there are. Be sure to use a bank ATM, there are some in the hallway where you exit from baggage/customs in Terminal 3.
  12. It depends on what is important to you for this trip. The train is more effort, but it's cheap.
  13. Yes, IC #501, departs Civitavecchia at 9:29 and arrives to Napoli Centrale at 12:34. It makes four stops en route (at Roma Ostiense, Latina, Formia-Gaeta, and Aversa), but you do not change trains. It runs seven days each week.
  14. Three hours prior to an international departure is the minimum, especially this year with record numbers of tourists. 8 AM seems a bit late, most ships start disembarking by 6 or 6:30.
  15. For your own good, please stop using a third party site like the train line. It's very easy to use the Trenitalia site. EN - Trenitalia
  16. The station is Civitavecchia. If you choose Civitavecchia Porto they will include the cost of the 6 euro bus from the ship/terminal to the Civitavecchia station in the ticket price. The only other choice is Civitavecchia ( Tutte Le Stazioni ), which mean all stations in Civitavecchia.
  17. The train station in Civitavecchia is only one mile from the port shuttle drop off point, or there is a 6 euro bus that takes you from the cruise terminal to the station. There is no reason you couldn't be on a train by 8 or 8:30, without rushing off. Do consider the type of train you want. With luggage a regional train is an issue. First, it's difficult (if not impossible) to get a seat. Second, there is no place to store luggage so someone has to stand in the vestibule with it for an hour. Third, the regional trains from the Lazio region (including Civitavecchia) arrive to auxiliary tracks three city blocks from the main track head where you would get the train to Naples. Therefore, I strongly suggest limiting your search and spending a little more money for a seat assigned train that alleviates the issues presented by the regional trains. There are two options. One is the IC train. This is slower and not as nice as the Frecce trains, but it has the benefit of no change in Rome. You have your seat from Civitavecchia to Napoli Centrale. For this train I would spend the extra money to be in first class. It's not much more money but the seating is much better. There's only one IC in the morning, departing Civitavecchia at 9:29 and arriving to Napoli Centrale at 12:35. Total travel time is a little over three hours. The other is the Frecce. With this option you'd need to change trains at Termini station in Rome. There is a Frecce from Civitavecchia at 9:21, connecting in Rome (both trains use the same track head so it's an easy transfer, unless you have a ton of luggage) and arriving to Napoli Centrale at 11:33. Total travel time is two and a quarter hours.
  18. It's a half hour bus ride to Tarquinia. Tarquinia 3000 years of history, the Etruscan and Medieval Unesco Heritage. (tarquiniaturismo.com)
  19. The fixed fare for a taxi from the airport to Civitavecchia is 125 euro. You can see the fixed fares on the city of Rome's website here: Tariffario_Taxi_REV.pdf (comune.roma.it) With taxis you will need several cars for a group this size, you'll do better with a car service that can bring a van that will fit everyone and their luggage. This has been an extraordinarily busy year in Italy for tourism and you are quite late setting this up, you may need to call several different companies to find one that can help you. 20. Florence is too far, the cruise lines are really stretching it to call La Spezia a port for Florence. cinque Terre is easy to reach by train and by ferry, perhaps take one there and the other back, to see both perspectives. Parco Nazionale delle Cinque Terre (parconazionale5terre.it)
  21. I'm not sure what's going on with Trenitalia. There have been website problems for the past week but they may or may not be related to the issue with Civitavecchia ticket sales. The detailed information on how to buy tickets on line, in English, is here: guida_acquisto_online_nuovo_pda_2_mar_ENG.pdf (trenitalia.com) I would reach out to them directly using the contacts here: Our Call Centres - Trenitalia
  22. Here's one option: Island Tour + Blue Grotto Visit - Yellow Line (motoscafisticapri.com)
  23. Are you looking for a group tour or a private one? The group tours are usually about two hours, private ones can go as long as you want, make stops for swimming, etc.
  24. Yes, I agree. While it's not far (a little over a mile), it is significantly uphill and not an easy walk with luggage. Uber in Rome connects you to a car service, which will cost more than a taxi. Your hotel can call one for you, or you can go to the taxi stand at Piazza Poli (one tenth of a mile from the Trevi Fountain). If you have more than just carry on size bags, I would seriously consider opting for the slightly more expensive, but far more comfortable Frecce trains to Civitavecchia. They travel non-stop from the main trackhead at Termini to Civitavecchia, and you get an assigned seat. There is one at 11:57 (arrives Civitavecchia 12:44) or another at 13:57 (arrives 14:44). If you choose Civitavecchia Porto as your destination they will add 6 euro to the fare and include the port bus from the train station to the cruise terminal (or to the ship, if not at a terminal).
  25. Well then, as I said, you'll wind up hanging around for a few hours until they're ready to board people. If they take your luggage you could go for a walk into town, there are free shuttles to the port exits and it's a short walk from there.
