  1. People expressing their opinions in a respectful way is called a conversation which I think most people on my thread have done. I am not reading this as a 'war'. It was not intended to be that. Please don't turn it into something different. If you want that, please start your own thread. It's ok that people's perceptions are different. It doesn't make it right or wrong.

  2. Fishywood-----I wish I could say you are correct and that I had some kind of ulterior motive as you say, but honestly I didn't. I am absolutely not opposed to anyone eating in the dining room or dressing up. I promise. I was making some observations. That's all, plain and simple. People who dressed formal looked lovely, but they seemed to me, to be in the minority. That's all I was saying.

  3. Jasbo49-----That is a good question!!

My husband and I sat at the Crown Grill Bar on both formal nights to observe what people were wearing. They had to pass the bar to get to one of the dining rooms. Granted we did not see every single person going into every dining room for every seating, but we feel we got a good idea based upon what we saw. We observed the same when we roamed to the Piazza. My daughter and her friend opted to eat in the dining room both of the formal nights and both of them completely agree with our perception of what people were wearing. Also, I was in no way arguing in my original post. I was stating my opinion and wholeheartedly think people who wish to dress should and did (which I also said in my original post). I was simply saying that we tried something new and it seemed that A LOT of other people did the same. I was offering a possible explanation for why I think people are dressing more casually and how the industry is dealing with the change. It's not a right or wrong thing. It's what I did and what I saw.

  4. This is a review of the attire for the week. This is what I saw. This is not meant to start another dress war. Please be nice in your responses. Some people truly want to know what to wear on upcoming cruises. Here you go:

Just off Regal last Sunday. Here's what I saw:

    Dining room casual nights

men- jeans, casual pants, golf shirts, short/long sleeved button down shirts

women- jeans, casual pants, short/long sleeved shirts, casual dresses

    Dining Room formal nights

men- jeans, casual pants, golf shirts, short/long sleeved button down shirts, jackets, suits, tuxedos

women- jeans, casual pants, short/long sleeved button down shirts, casual dresses, formal dresses

Basically I saw EVERYTHING and casual or formal everyone looked nicely dressed. Both young and old were in casual dress.

On a side note: This was our 9th cruise and we decided to skip the dining room and eat in the buffet (which was fabulous), Alfredos (amazing), and the specialty restaurants (excellent). It was clear from the amount of people in those venues that we were not alone in skipping the dining room. I think the formality of the dining room with mediocre food (even on casual nights) is quickly fading away. People change, new generations have new expectations which the industry must cater to. Those that still want to dress should and can. Clearly the industry recognizes that a huge amount of people simply don't want that experience. The industry is about making money. They will never enforce a dress code that people don't want. There were 4,000 people on our cruise. Princess isn't going to cater to the small percentage of people in formal wear. They want repeat cruisers to pay again!!! The great majority of those people were in casual attire. It is what it is!!!

  6. I've seen a video of a BBQ on the pool deck and read about it, I think, only one time. Does it still exist? Anyone gone to it? Is is dinner, snack, both??? Not much talk about it compared to all the other dining venues/opportunities. Any information would be appreciated. We sail on 3/26! Thanks in advance.

  7. Shorts and t-shirts make rednecks? Don't tell anyone on my March Regal Princess cruise what I live in a gated country club!! They'll never believe you since I'll be wearing shorts and t-shirts in the dining room! Very insulting and presumptuous! Oh, and please don't tell them I have a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science as well!!! Lord only knows what they'd think of me next!

  8. Meriam-Webster dictionary

Suggestion: an idea about what someone should do or how someone should behave

It's not a rule! It's not a law! If that makes it all about me, then so be it. I like me!!!! ME plans to wear jeans, casuals pants, nice shirts, and comfortable shoes on formal and informal nights. I will not throw food in the MDR, scream, or engage in any other rude behavior. I will be polite to my waiter, put my napkin on my lap, chew with my mouth closed, and enjoy my formal and casual food. I will admire the formal wear of those around me and not judge those who choose to wear casual clothing. I will remember that what I wear or don't wear was suggested to me on the website of the cruise line that we all bought our vacation from. Rich, poor, old, young, new cruiser, experienced cruiser......follow the suggestion as you will, BUT leave me alone and let me wear what I want. I promise I won't tear you apart for getting all dressed up!!!

  9. Hope so! The sooner the better!!!! Not that it really matter to me though since I pretty much wear what I want since the dress code is a 'suggestion' from Princess. In fact, in a few weeks when I'm on the Regal, it will be the first of 9 cruises I am not packing one single bit of formal clothing.....casual all the way, because I can. :)

  10. If I am reading this correctly it sounds as though each day and night, in various venues, there will be chocolate desserts for free. However, there may be certain 'premium chocolate desserts' which involve a fee. So you can eat and enjoy the free special chocolate desserts or pay a nominal fee for the extra special desserts. It would be great if there were no charges, but this seems to be the way of the modern cruise no matter what line you travel. Pick your chocolate dessert for free or pay. Your choice. Enjoy!

  11. Got an email that the itinerary has been flip-flopped due to ship overcrowding in ports. I do prefer going to the private island first and having 2 days at sea at the end of the cruise, but It's all about being flexible, right? It's a vacation! :)

  12. Awesome that you are reporting live. Also awesome that you are getting in your workouts. I always train while on cruises since we tend to cruise smack in the middle of triathlon season. I normally swim several miles/week, run about 12-15 miles, and ride about 60 miles/week. When I'm on vacation I do what I can. Can you please find out if people are allowed to use the spin bikes when a class isn't going on? AND are the pedals clipless for cycle shoes? Thanks for the info!!!

  13. We haven't even decided to definitely do this, but wanted to know the policy. I'm sure in the end we will all stay together. We are fully aware of the safety issues. We were simply wondering what the 'real' policy is.

  14. On the last night of our last Celebrity cruise (Solstice) we ate at the buffet and thought it was wonderful. On the last RCI cruise (Oasis of Seas) we did the same and thought it was nothing more than all the leftovers from all of the food during the entire cruise. Sooooooo, has anyone ever gone to Horizons for dinner on the last night? What is your opinion of the food on that night? Thanks, in advance, for your responses.
