I definitely will post a review when we get back and do a little comparison between RCI and Princess. I'm sure we'll find there to be pros and cons of both.
-
My daughter and her friend are 17 (seniors in high school). They more than likely wouldn't use the ice rink or rock climbing wall. They would've liked Mama Mia, the ice show, and the aqua theater show for sure. The girls were part of the decision. They wanted us to make the change. They said the ship overall suited their needs better as they really do want to just 'chill'. Also, it's been our experience with our teenage son and daughter on previous cruises that the very first night they hook up with all the other teens and we don't see much of them the rest of the week. I don't think the actual ship has much to do with that. I attribute that to 'that's what teenagers do'. As for my husband and I, we really could have gone either way, but this is an early graduation gift for our daughter and we wanted her opinion to count. We love RCI, really we do, but we also like Celebrity and Holland America. We're only 51, but I guess we're ok with sitting around doing 'nothing' sometimes. I'm a teacher and he's an underwriter. We need a break!!!! LOL

We did read A LOT of Regal Princess reviews and found them to be quite favorable. We loved the entertainment on Oasis. We really did miss seeing water. Water views are tough to come by on Oasis and Allure. We full well knew we weren't going to see a lot of water and accepted that, but we did miss it. We also knew that the main 'atrium' was more like a shopping mall, and way less like a traditional atrium on other ships we'd been on and we were ok with that, but did at times feel 'trapped' inside. The 'for charge' restaurants were delicious and we were prepared to pay, but were disappointed with the food in the MDR and buffet. We enjoyed our balcony cabin. We realize the mini suite on Regal isn't like a junior suite on Oasis, but we are happy with what we are getting especially for the price we got. We're not trashing RCI or Oasis/Allure. Consistency/trends in reviews reveal that the food is troubling to a lot of people. We are trying something new, plain and simple.

That's all very helpful info! I appreciate your time and effort!

We sailed on Oasis last year and enjoyed it very much! Here are some things that swayed our 'switch': a more traditional ship with much more water views, a full day on a private island, CONSISTENT excellent food reviews, price (went from 2 balcony cabins to 2 mini-suites---similar to junior suites on AOS, for less money)......those are just a few. Hope that helps.

Let me clarify that it wasn't only because of the massive amounts of negative reviews. The decision was based upon a host of pros and cons. While the reviews did play a part in our decision, they weren't the only determining factor in our final choice of ship/cruise line.

After a lot of flip-flopping, my husband and I have canceled our 3/27 Allure of the Seas cruise and booked the Regal Princess (2 mini-suites for us and DD and friend). The reviews for both Oasis and Allure have been troubling lately, especially comments about the food. We're never sailed Princess so we thought we'd try something new. We're confident with our decision and will report back with any pertinent comments upon our return.

Well, we did it! After a lot of flip-flopping my husband and I officially canceled our Allure of the Seas 3/27 cruise and booked on Regal Princess (2 mini suites with DD and friend). We've never sailed on Princess. We're excited for the new adventure! Any advice for Princess newbies would be greatly appreciated although we've watched lots of videos and read lots of reviews so we feel pretty confident we 'get it'.

We did it on Oasis. It was DEFINITELY worth it. It's a real food presentation! Really! With each course, the waiter educates about the food, presents it, and teaches you how to eat it! It was all quite delicious.

The second my toenail crosses over the threshold of the garage door for our departure.

When I went on Oasis last year, my triathlon coach wrote plans for me that were specific to the cruise. I ran on the track and/or treadmill and did my own strength/core workouts. On one of my Celebrity cruises I did 3 spin classes for the week which were not anywhere near as good as the cycle studio I go to. The Oasis class gym is packed full of what you need to get in some great workouts without paying personal training prices, but that certainly is your choice. Have fun and be realistic about exercise while on vacation.

Sailed Oasis last year and agree with a lot of your review especially the 'other cruisers' section!!! That is absolutely exactly how we felt the entire week at every single venue. Thanks for your honesty and saying what we were thinking! :D

Sailed on Oasis. This time, Allure because of the itinerary and the days we wanted to sail. Also, new and different shows (aqua show, ice show, Mama Mia...)/. The ships are identical now, so that really had little to do with our decision.

Watched the last 2 days video this morning! Can't wait for the rest of the family to see it! We love Oasis! Allure is coming up for us in March!
-
Downy Wrinkly Releaser is AMAZING! My entire family uses it ALL the time at home and on vacations! Haven't used my iron in years!
-
My husband, 17 yr old daughter, and I watched ALL of your videos last night! You are hysterical! We felt so bad for you and not having your clothes!!! The suspense was killing us! We had to keep watching to see the outcome! AND then----getting trapped on deck!! That was awful, but we also couldn't help but laugh! Thanks for your review, pics, and videos! Happy 18th. Looking forward to watching the last 2 days of your cruise!

Been on Celebrity Solstice 2x. Once to Caribbean, once to Alaska. Been on RCCL Oasis to Caribbean and going on Allure in 2016. Here's my opinion: The Solstice is a classy traditional cruise ship, more upscale, better food in mdr and buffet. Mediocre entertainment or any nightlife for that matter. Extremely relaxing, just not a lot of stuff to do, BUT we enjoy not doing much sometimes and Alaska is so beautiful all you want to do is sit on your balcony and watch glaciers. Way less kids, way more older people (we are both 51). Again, let me stress it is a traditional cruise ship. NOW Oasis is a busy ship with TONS of things to do! The entertainment is off the charts! The food in the mdr and buffet are nothing to speak of! That being said, all the specialty restaurants that we ate at (and we ate at many) were amazing! The other free places to eat were also really good for the most part. This ship is more like a hotel. There is not a lot of ocean views. You really need to go look for the water---on the pool deck and other higher decks or your ocean view balcony cabin (which I suggest yo get if you really want to see the water). There are no windows to see the ocean in most of the venues on this ship due to the design of this ship. Check out the floor plans of both ships. This ship is absolutely fun and busy, with as much or as little as you want to do. Bottom line is you really need to decide what kind of experience you are looking for. Hope this helps.

Try to get familiar with the layout pre-cruise! It's big! Take advantage of all the different dining venues for breakfast, lunch, dinner for variety instead of only the mdr and wj.
-
Paula Dean had a 'food venue' on our Oasis of the Seas cruise last year and honestly aside from seeing the people walking around with special lanyards it didn't disrupt our cruise at all! We saw her in the Windjammer with her husband and some others at lunch one day and that was it! Apparently, all her talks and demonstrations were closed venues so we weren't affected.
-
I agree with Bob!!! This class ship has very limited ocean view. We definitely get ocean view balcony!
-
Never had a problem bringing packaged snacks.
-
Or maybe that's earth science????
-
HA!!! Thanks Bob! I think I just failed physics on CC! I meant...Are the doors made of metal that is magnetic?? LOL
-
Are the stateroom/bathroom doors magnetic for magnetic hooks? Has anyone used a shoe rack with the metal hooks that go over the bathroom door? Is there enough space to close the door? I brought one on Celebrity Solstice and there was not enough space between the door and the door frame so the door wouldn't close. Thanks, in advance, for your KIND responses! :)

What is the age minimum for this pool? I know it's adults only, however, on another cruise line there is an adults only pool area (RCI Solarium) where the minimum age is 16 (I know, not quite adult age). My daughter and her friend will be 17 when we sail. Thanks for the info.
