  1. And to add further.....

Certainly like the fact that the ships (at least the ones I've been on) are still paying 3/2 on BJ.

Hope the 'Vegas 6/5 garbage doesn't spread to the sea !!!

Hopefully not, as most of these ships are not registered US. But we will have to wait and see.

  2. Can anyone tell me the difference between regular craps and mini-craps? I assume some of the board is missing in the smaller version, but what?

Yes you pretty much got it. These were at one time very popular in Vegas years ago. It was actually a 1/2 a craps table with stools around it. It was like having a private game as there were very few players at each table. They have all but vanished and finding them these days is rare. But the game is essentially exactly the same except you are playing half a table. Hope this helps.

  3. Although I have not read all 200 prior posts I thought I would let all the other degenerate crap players know that I ran into a 3,4 & 5 times odds table on the Solstice during a May '09 Med Cruise.

That was nice of Celebrity to do that & just hoping I 'll find the same situation on Equinox during our Jan '10 cruise. :p

Those 2X odds tables make the Come Bet a real grind for the return.

    JMHO

    Ziggy

Yep I am seeing this setup more often these days. Pretty cool! Hopefully, more cruiselines will adopt this policy.

  4. Yo,

You questioned how I felt the line was crossed beyond throwing the chip at me. The specific very inappropriate and hurtful comments including the “B” word is one that I won’t belabor with a lot of details here. But let’s just say some of the things were rude and demeaning. I am choosing not to repeat the insults in this forum, but believe that my only retort to them remained simply about playing the game and no personal attacks to the individual. I simply wanted the situation diffused and felt that once they threw a chip, that there should have been some sort of intervention. I am quite effective at tuning out the stares, whispers and comments of others and really don’t mind the attention as long as it’s not threatening. That is why this was so shocking to me, because it appeared to me that me not responding annoyed them even more. I am not confrontational or antagonistic and try to have fun while keeping a relatively low profile. My motto is kill-em with kindness and keep racking my chips, because for me, fun and making money is all that I’m there for. As long as I’m making money, trust me, I’m having fun, whichever side I’m playing from.

Sounds to me cruizincurt was at your table that night! HAHAHA!

WOW! That is crazy. I am going to come back to your posts later as it is LUNCH time! :D

I just had to slam cruizincurt with this slider at your expense. Sorry about that. No hard feelings. But, I'll get back to you.

Oh and guess where I am going tonight? Shooting craps on the local gaming boat. :D

  5. Hi everyone,

I have been a lurker on this thread since it began and have really enjoyed the banter.

I had an experience in May on my last cruise where some of our table mates got a bit agressive with me because I played from the dark side. I initially took it in jest as always, but it got a bit uncomfortable and a couple of guys were way over the line with their comments to me. One even threw a chip at me and I was looking to the pit crew to assist me, but no one ever did. I assure you before you ask, I am a petite, unoppossing female player who is not vocal from the dark side and will even shoot/play from the right with a hot table.

I played and even made connections with other players during the cruise from people who approached me wanting to learn how to play the don't. What shocked me the most is that no "staff" member addressed this behavior even as I am appealing to bully's that my winning was not personal and I was not playing against them, I just want to win money just like them. This is the first time in ANY casino that I have witnessed this type of behavior and by no means think all players are this rude. Usually people leave me alone and are pretty friendly even though I play the don't.

I am leaving next week and will continue to play the same strategies I have always played specific to me, but I have to know if this "should" have been something that the pit crew should have addressed or because I play the don't, am I on my own. Your thoughts.....

Hello and welcome to the new Casino section. I am glad you have decided to post and I encourage you to participate more often. I have several comments to make here in reply to your posting.

First and foremost. A female mostly exclusive don't player. I have NEVER met one or seen one in person at a table, EVER. This is most interesting and fascinating. I think it is groovy and love the idea. Kudos to you and would love to learn about your specific method of play. Please share.

It is unclear to determine how rude these folks were on your last cruise without knowing exactly what the comments are that you feel were over the line. But for argument's sake I can only assume they were based on the fact you are female and these female directed comments regards may have been their weapon to try to break you. But, again I don't know as I don't know what they actually said.

Regardless, it takes a real low life to attack a female especially when it comes to shooting craps. And, you have a double whammy against you especially since you are shooting from the dark side. You have to learn to be able to take the punches but also you have a right to defend yourself.

Let's address the scumbags first. I noticed you sailed on Carnival last May. I have been on one Carnival cruise. Although I enjoyed the cruise very much I must say when I played craps there, I had the privledge to play with the biggest scumbags I have EVER played in my several years of shooting craps. In fact, it was on this sailing where I got into a shouting match with all sorts of name callings and stuff which involved the dealers getting into it (I will get to this later). Although, on almost every cruise or gaming boat I go on, words get exchanged. But, only twice did it come close to hand to hand combat. I know it is immature to get into it at a craps table but I guess at the heat of the moment, tensions rise, and folks say things that they don't really mean and things get out of hand. I have been called names, chips thrown at me just like you, and twice threatened with physical harm to include being told that if I am on deck that I would be tossed overboard, and another time that this one person wanted to take the stickman's tool and bash me 100 times over the head. And when I collapsed that he would bash me 100 more time for good measure. Of course, the dealers got involved here and all that were involved were asked to suspend play for the entire day/evening.

I learned a long time ago a dark side player will NOT get any sympathy from the craps dealers. Not one bit. HOWEVER, there is a way to GET their support if something should go bad. To earn their support you need to place some bets for the dealers. Perhaps as someone suggested to place $1 on the inside numbers. You don't have to place a bet for yourself at the same time you play for the dealers as long as you are not rolling the dice. Simply place the bets for them and they will know you are appreciative for the dealers. Even if you are a dark side player, if other players screw around with you I find they will actually help you out. It has worked for me several times with them defending me.

As a don't player you have to deal with a lot of crap. That is just the way it is. Often I play with really cool pass players who don't give me any trouble. And often I play with real jerks. I return the favor and get real nasty. Such as rolling for my own seven and yelling out big red. But, this only if they start crap with me. I will tell you that if you end up doing your own rolls you will find many of these fools leaving the table. I wouldn't ignore their comments. I fight back with words. But that is just me. If the environment becomes really hostile then yeah, the dealers get involved. If you are a tipper, they will usually side with you, even if you are a dark side player. That is the good news!!!!!

Now for some more bad news. I see you are going on the Carnival Fascination. That is where I saw the biggest scumbugs in crap player history on that ship. It was horrible. I played my game though but it got confrontational at times.

My advice as a don't player you may want to consider trying another cruise line for a change of pace on your next cruise. I have had great experience on Princess. I am trying next with Royal Carribbean. I know it was on one ship on Carnival I had this experience, but it put a bad taste in my mouth. For your upcoming Fascination cruise, be certain to tip the dealers in the beginning. I am not saying to give them lots of tips. But do a bet for them in the beginning. And then later on the cruise if you are winning and they are providing you a good service make more bets for them. They will be on your side. But be prepared, for jerks and their comments.

Anyway, I said a mouthful here. I wish you luck and hope to see you back here! :D

  6. That scratching sound you hear is the darkside player trying to sneak away from the table like a roach in daylight when I roll my points and they lose.:p:D:eek:

    Just kidding Yo.;)

Hmmmm. Independence of the Seas in December, eh? :D

  7. If you must play the Darkside. Do it without any emotion. If you win, do not celebrate or cheer. Keep it to yourself.

Yes, but if the others act like imbeciles and make fun of the dark side player then all bets are off. Call out SEVEN when the point is made and roll the dice and shoot for the SEVEN yourself.

  8. Welcome to craps.

The issue with the Don't player is that they are betting for a 7 which will cause everyone else to lose. It has nothing to do with the right side bettors, it's just the opposite of the majority and has a very slight odds advantage.

A cruise ship is a good place to learn IMO. You can go up to the table early in the evening when half the people are at dinner. There will be few if anyone playing. The dealers will be more than happy to explain how to play as they will be bored with nothing to do. Later on, other newbies will slow the game down.

Now I have to get out of here before Yo shows up.

Looks like I need to set up some roach motels here while I am away to catch this guy. LOL! :D

Good advice on learning how to play. But watch out for the dealers trying to convince the newbies how wonderful proposition bets are. They aren't They are sucker bets. Watch out!

  9. Laura, thanks for the new forum for us wild ones!

More and more we are seeing the computerized blackjack; hope it doesn't completely take over.

    Kathy:)

Hello tomko2! Welcome to the new section.

I don't think we will see a computerized takeover of blackjack. What we will see is continuous shuffle machines taking over though. Love 'em or hate 'em I guess.

  10. I'll be going on an Alaskan cruise on Coral Princess in September. Does anyone know if they have a poker table on this ship? HAL and Carnival have had one on the last cruises I've been on, but this is my first Princess cruise.

Hello and welcome to the Casino section.

I was on Princess last year and they did have a poker table, however, it was computerized. No live dealer. This would be Texas hold'em. Now they did have other poker games (three card poker) with a live dealer if you are interested in that. Good luck!

  11. Thanks for the kind words. You're right' date=' I actually did well! Yes, I played three nights. I'm a happy newbie. :)

There were a couple of dark side players. They were quiet...stealthy...trying not to draw attention to themselves. At least that's how this newbie read them. They did ok...can't say how well, as I was concentrating on my new found addiction, and they seemed to disappear fairly quick. Once I become 100% comfortable, I'm sure I'll have fun toying with you dark siders. :p Dare I say I may become one? Probably not. I really enjoyed the interaction with the other players as we helped eachother win!

Oh, and the guys running the table were great, both helpful and funny. YES, I left a chip tip each evening.[/quote']

Deciding whether or not to play the dark side is easy.

All you need to do is ask the following?

Do I want to cheer and scream with others at the craps table?

If the answer is YES. Then the dark side is not for you.

HOWEVER-If you are interested in WINNING money and could not care less about how others perceive you then playing the dark is for you. Furthermore, you have to build up a personality yourself. If you are playing with really cool passline players then it is only common courtesy for a don't player to keep his/her mouth shut and pass the dice when it is their turn to roll. But, if there are obnoxious jerks at the table criticizing your play, simply, yell BIG RED when they roll the dice. Also, when the dice come your way, ROLL THEM and call for a seven every time except the comeout roll. Instead yell CRAP at that time! You will find less players at the table with you which is actually WONDERFUL! :D

  12. Betting the don't is a real grind. It is a great way to rack up slow and steady profits. Employing a conservative money management technique, it is a good way to play. Before anyone risks any money on the table you need a COMPLETE understanding of the entire game. A fool and his money can be easily seperated at the tables. I can't tell you how many times I have had to school the dealers on proper payoffs. This is especially true when playing the don't. Many dealers on the ships are very personable,

however, they don't get enough action from the dark side players to be

proficient in paying the don't. If you are going to play you must be able to figure out the proper payoffs instantly. Do not depend on a dealer to calculate anything for you. It is your money and your responsibility to know what you should be payed.

These are words of wisdom, sir!

  13. Is it likely that the casinos will go "smoke" free? I find it odd that you can smoke only designated places except the casino. I have seen the row of 10 machines that say no smoking, usually filled with somers. Fewer and fewer people smoke today, give us a break!!

Well I hope they certainly do. Smoking is a disgusting habit and really bad for you. Also how do you think the non smoking dealers feel? I think they themselves will push for non smoking casinos.

  14. We had a wonderful cruise' date=' which included a few nights at the craps table. I'm a newbie, did my homework, and am proud to say that after several hours at the table I came back a winner!

I started each evening with $100 and left each time after almost 2 hours with an extra $50-$70. I know, not a lot of money, but it was very entertaining. I typically bet the pass line with odds, a few come bets with oddas, and occasionally bet the six or eight, with odds. My longest roll was 25 minutes, and made money for everyone at the table.

Thanks to all of you for your encouragement and advice. I think I'm hooked![/quote']

I have to disagree with you a lot here as I nod by head right and left going tisk tisk........

If you started with a bank of $100 and left the table with an extra $50-$75 each time you played then you made a LOT of money. Think about it. That is between $25 and $35 dollars and hour. You got PAID not only for having fun but earned a very good profit. You said you played for a few nights. We will call it three nights. It appears you netted $180 for the trip. This is an outstanding return for a beginner.

Think about if you doubled up your bank and went in with $200 and doubled all your bets. You would have killed the table.

Congratulations and a job well done. I am proud of ya!

    From the dark side,

    Yo Eleven

  15. I don't have any problem with Don't bettors. The way I see it, at least somebody at the table is winning when the table is cold! And I will switch to their side if it's icy enough! But I'm also not very superstitious about the dice. I certainly don't think that the way somebody else is betting affects the dice in any way.

I would get irritated if a Don't bettor was obnoxious about gloating when they won, but that would be because they were obnoxious, not because they were a Don't bettor.

And yeah, it is easiest to play Don't from the end of the table, because of the position of the Don't Come box.

    Nancy

Wow! Another female craps table. Kewl!!!!!!!!

    ROLL THAT SEVEN, HONEY!!!!!!!! :D

    (is that obnoxious?) :D

  16. "I wouldnt mind playing at a table with some dark side people provided they had a personality. "

Ahh yes, but....it seems most dark side players will not throw the bones and they slip in and out without fanfare. YO?

Yeah-you gotta love playing with those silent night types that just sit there and say nothing during the entire game. Brings lots of excitement to the game. Sorta like this. :D

  17. I would guess that playing the Don'ts one has to be extra careful watching the dealers since they are not used to those bets, especially with a full table with lots of chips. Not all the craps dealers who rotate in and out of the table on the cruise ships are that sharp. That's why I always bet the same way so I can keep an eye on my chips and bets.

Yo, I'm a convert...I will go dark on the next cruise if the table is cold and full of $20 bankrollers.;)

And, sorry, but I don't do buses.

One thing that does irritate me is after a point goes down, and I have two or three Come bets on the table, the morons that root for a 7 on the Come out roll. They just don't understand the game IMO.

HA! It is my guess that they wanted you to lose so you would leave the table and they could actually have some fun. LOL!

  18. I personally don't see why there should be anything "socially unacceptable" about betting wrong. Mathematically, there is little difference between the pass and don't pass (0.05% = 1 in 2000, just about a wash). The combined edge of flat+odds looks better for the don't better, but to me it looks like an illusion, because for the same win, the don't better must put up more money.

As for attitude... let me tell you a little story. Many years ago, I was introduced to the Options market in the stock exchange. Looking around at the time, it seemed to me that there was a toy company which was not going to do well that Christmas. So I bought "puts" on that company - essentially this means that the lower the company stock goes, the more money I would make. In other words. a "don't" bet. As expected, the company went south that winter, and I turned a good profit. My wife (at the time) asked me how I could be so happy that the company was going so badly. My answer was simply that it was the direction I bet on. Nothing personal.

One more thing - wrong players often stand at the table ends for a good reason - look at where the "Don't come" box is on the layout! LOL

Yep, you will always find me in the corners of the table! :D

  19. Yo...from the link you posted:

"Wrong or "Don't" bettors are generally despised by right bettors. They usually stand at one of the corners of the table, silent and inconspicuous. I've always taken delight in watching them lose. Nothing makes me happier than to watch a shooter make his point when there's a stack of chips sitting in the "Don't pass" section of the layout. Don't bettors wait patiently for seven to be rolled. When and if it is, they must celebrate in silence and collect their "ill gotten gains" without fanfare."

Somehow I picture a Don't player dressed like father time, or an undertaker, black cloak and all HAHA. :p

When are we gonna meet up?

We need to book you a bus ride. LOL!

  20. oh don't get me wrong yo - I believe there are times to play the don'ts.. and I do! here's a classic example of when not to! I just watched this happen last Wednesday at the Gold Strike in Tunica...

A shooter gets the dice for his come out roll.. lays 50 in the don't.. rolls a 6 and it becomes the point.. he lays 150 odds.. dice are out.. he rolls.. a 6.

instead of passing the dice.. oh hes gonna go dont's again.. 50 on the don't and here comes the come out roll.. its a 10.. (sly grin).. he's in good shape now.. a few rolls later.. 10! Big Ben!.. everybody at the table feels bad for this guy.. just pass already!

pass the dice? no sir! I'm gonna go again! he digs into the pocket and produces 500 more dollars. 100 bucks on the don't pass line! come on 2 or 3! sorry.. its a 7!

give up yet? no sir! not this "Tin Cup" of the craps table! 200 more on the don't.. come out roll... 9! teh shooter take out more cash so he can go 400 odds on the back. at this point, even the right siders and praying for a 7 for this poor boy but of course, everyone at the table (except the shooter) see that this guy is on a hot roll and we're loaded up on the pass line with free odds.. the shooter rolls, and rolls and about 15 rolls later we get a decision.. you guessed it.. a 9. now instead of cheers from winning players, theres a huge GROAN.. the first time I've ever seen that happen on a winning point.. and finally, Mr. Darkside Don't Tin Cup Crapshooter is done. and passes the dice... over a thousand bucks later..

message to players.. FOLLOW THE TREND! DO'S SOMETIMES DON'T!

    SOMETIMES DONT'S WON'T DO!

I think some folks are just afraid to play the don'ts .. In some places, you will catch hell from the rightway bettors and even be called names.. they want you to lose.. I guess they don't realize there's money to be made on that side of the table too..

Well, if everyone was a winner, then we would all be millionaires. Unfortunately, this guy was trying to make up his losses by making huge don't pass bets with large lay odds bets. It does work often but ultimately the house has the advantage no matter what and it bit him in the rear.

I agree, his betting was NOT what to do. He should have continued to play his 50 dollar don't pass bet rather than increasing it like that. His error was not the fact he was deciding to shoot his own seven, but is betting strategy was faulted.

Interesting the pass line players were groaning when he rolled the point. I have never seen pass players have any sympathy for a dark side player that rolls the dice.

The only time I roll the dice is when the folks at the table become arrogant and act stupid or if there is a precision shooter that I like to rattle. I find these guys are the ones that tend to get annoyed by dark side rollers and will stop playing for awhile. HAHA!
