I just read the web page about bidding. It's unclear whether one gets an email if they used a TA or the TA gets it and forwards it to you. Does anyone have clarity on this point?

The TA gets it and either forwards or contacts you about it. If you book with Princess directly, the email comes to you without middle man.

Just checked and yes S6 on discovery are vista suites.  At the stern of the decks.  Put your cursor over each S6 suites and the popup will show Vista.

Thank you. They are forward on deck 17 and I was looking aft because that’s what the description said. I could not find aft Vista category cabins.
what deck did you see stern Vista cabins?

We got our "upgrade offer" early this AM.   Not exactly like NCL.  When we sent a bid on an NCL cruise a few years ago, there was the similar sliding-type meter showing "weak" to "strong" and we could put in the maximum we were willing to pay, but the Princess upgrade offer starts at a pretty high price (for their "weak" accepted minimum and the "strong" is way more than we'd ever pay.  No thanks.  We're staying with our original cabin (Prem.Deluxe Balc.).

Thought it was odd that all the choices given us with this offer---e.g., Club Class Mini-Suite, Vista, Premium & Penthouse Suites---are available, when they're showing as unavailable for our sailing in Nov. on the Princess website.

BTW, our bid through NCL was accepted--from an Oceanview to an Aft Balcony, and the upgrade price was quite reasonable, IMO.

We got same upgrade offer and we currently have a gty booked for premium balcony. We are going to stick with our gty. I’ve paid enough for this cruise and I don’t want to get stuck being upgraded to a forward cabin I don’t like. Of course, I could be assigned one through our gty booking, but at least I won’t have paid extra for the forward misery.

It is very likely that no one on the CC board has a working knowledge of the internal programming and algorithms to be used in the new bidding program, but I will ask my question anyway. Let’s say you have purchased an ocean view cabin when they were priced very low. For example you may have paid around $65/person/day and you decide to place a bid for an upgrade to a balcony cabin. Another person wanting to bid on the same upgrade may have paid $100/person/day for the same ocean view category cabin.  My question is: Does the programming/algorithms consider the amount paid on the original booking, thereby favoring the person that paid the higher price originally, or are both of these individuals on an even keel when it comes to winning the bid?

Just something to think about and thanks for listening.

As you said, nobody knows how it works but I see a lot of assumptions on this thread written like it’s fact. It’s like booking a guarantee, you take your chances or not bid and be satisfied with what you booked.

If you’ve received a MoveUp offer, and you’re booked with a TA, does the email offer come to you directly from Celebrity or via the TA?

Comes directly from Celebrity.  Only if you are upgraded do you receive a confirmation email from both X and your TA for the new billing. Bid on Aqua, and all the suite categories.  Bid high on the suites hoping to score.  Bid low on the Aqua.  Was shocked to get upgraded a few weeks later from CC to A1.  Only sad part is it is under the pool area.  I thought for sure my really high suite bids would win for sure.  Live and learn.

  6. That's awesome! I sent my renewal in on July 20 expedited and I was told 2-3 weeks! Guess that was a waste of $$ if regular processing is being done faster than expedited!! Needed to expedite it so I can hopefully get my global entry interview in the next month.

I think those with Global Entry already are getting their passports processed faster but it's just my opinion. Got mine on Saturday 7-29 so that was 12 days counting the day I mailed it. Not what I expected at all.

  7. 1cruiselvr, we got our new passports in 3 weeks which I thought was good. We also have Global Entry. Be sure to go to that website and put in your new passport number so it is linked with your new passport.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Oh, thank you for the reminder!! I didn't think if that!

  8. Quick turn around for me. Sent mine in 7/17/17 to Philadelphia address, no special processing time requested. $110 for renewal. $6.65 for priority USPS overnight (BTW since PO BOX address, can only use USPS). Got an email from them today with ship tracking #, estimated arrival 8/1/17. Now that's fast. I do have the global entry card so maybe that helped. Who knows. I'm impressed. Expected the 6-8 week time frame.

  9. Hi All-

I am so frustrated with the high prices of hotels! I used Priceline several years ago on a regular basis for business purposes and was quite successful and pleased.

We need a hotel for one night in FLL in Jan. 2018 for a Princess cruise.

My main question is; how far in advance can these sites offer a discounted price (Priceline, etc.)? Recent comments give me hope! However, I will need to give myself a refresher course.

Two other couples will be arriving from the airport and we will arrive via the Princess port (lucky us; off one and then onto another one!)

TIA for any tips and suggestions!

Sorry, but this is a site for listing winning bids on Priceline or Hot Wire. It is not a forum for advice on how to bid, where to get good prices, etc. There are other internet sources for that. It seems that the thread has lost it's original intent and we seem to be going off into the weeds a bit.

  10. I used to love playing the slot machines on a cruise. but not anymore. I don't even go into the casino unless it's the only way I can get from point A to point B on the ship. I have definitely noticed they have tightened them up tremendously. They have squeezed the fun right out of them IMHO. No more for me.

  11. Celebrity rarely upgrades, but when they do it is usually first time cruisers. I would notate do not upgrade on your reservation.

This is speculation and not a fact. Nobody knows how Celebrity or any other cruise line makes their upgrade decisions.

  12. Actually, the sign is put there to "free" up the staff's time. Just politely inquire & give your name/cabin #. Don't linger around. Most of all, be sincere. Nothing is more annoying than pax who just like to "check it out". If you WANT an upgrade, be willing & able to pay for it. Very few are given out as free upgrades. You'll find that more often on Carnival Corp. lines..Princess/HAL/Cunard. It also works better if you choose a guarantee when booking, rather than choosing an exact cabin #.

I found this not to be true on X. As I stated, when we sailed in February on Summit, the poor people down the hall had to suffer thru a flooded cabin because there was nothing available for them to both to. And how you book has nothing to do with whether or not there is a cabin available and pricing. IF there is a cabin available there is no price deal to be had. The days of open cabins to be gotten for a 'deal' are long gone. Cruise lines just don't operate like that anymore. If they ever did. I never experienced it in my 20 yrs of cruising over various different lines both booking specific cabins and gty bookings.

I wish people would just be satisfied with what they booked, the fact that they are able to enjoy a fabulous cruise vacation and quit trying to 'score' a deal. It gets old reading all these threads on how to get a better cabin for free or almost free. Ok, that's my soapbox 2 cents, I'm done venting. And it was not aimed at anyone in particular, just the subject in general.

  13. Remember if you booked a Guarantee, putting do not move on your reservation is not a protection. As part of the gty booking, you have given Celebrity the right to assign any cabin within that category or above and also (the fact that most don't know or forget) change it at any time. Just an FYI.......

  14. To clarify again, as it seems there are various ideas of what power strip vs. power cord means. Their policy does not allow anything to be used onboard that will allow the pax to plug in more than one electrical 'appliance' into a power cord. Call it strip, cord, whatever you want. Usually the mutliple plug cords do include surge protectors. But there are electrical cords that offer multiple plugin opportunities without a surge protector. We had both in our PACKED luggage and they were confiscated before our bags were delivered with a note that they can be retrieved at the end of the cruise at security. There were plenty of people in line retrieving their various strips/cords at the end of our cruise. It was a long line. A single plug in extension cord is allowed and will be provided at no cost by your room steward if you ask. That's what we ended up using and had to tape it to the floor so it wasn't a hazard.
