  1. So, dh & I just booked an inside on kiddo deck, We will get the best of both worlds, dark cabin for sleeping and quick & easy access to a wonder view just step away. We have always wanted to try a cabin on kiddo and this is the year to

try it. We are celebrating dh bday in Oct.

Which deck is the "kiddo" deck?

  2. Any recommendation on where to find the best "Lobsta" when in Bermuda?

    Best Lobsta is in Boston!!

I have taken this cruise a bunch of times, we are booked on the Oct 21 sailing.

Bermuda has great beaches and snorkeling, easy bus system. Friendly people. Nice taxi drivers....

  3. Didn't Norwegian book cruises to Harvest Caye starting with November 2015 departures? Where did those ships go instead?

Our Nov 15 cruise was originally scheduled for Harvest Caye. We went to Belize City

  4. I wonder what the bar will be like that is replacing "Pearly Kings" I think it is going to be the same as the one on the Star, haven't been on the Star since it was changed over.

All they said at our meet and greet was that it is going to be a "wine bar"....And that Moderno is going to be a pub. Not sure if that means Blue Lagoon will be a pub too ??

  5. Here's why I wanted to go to a private island: I don't scuba dive and I'm not really that interested in going back to Altun Ha, so Belize City doesn't really entice me as a port. The one city tour excursion was short and expensive. My wife will snorkel, but she has a bad shoulder, so she wants to go off the beach, not off a boat. So, that means most of the snorkeling in Belize is out, and there is one beach excursion which says snorkeling is forbidden ( I'm still trying to figure that one out.)

Harvest Caye has a snorkel excursion, from the beach. So, that was a good excursion for us.

She loved GSC, and I figured this would be similar. I'm not sure that's true, and it may not be ready by our February cruise, anyway.

While I'm in favor of going out and meeting the locals, I've heard a lot about safety (or lack thereof) in Belize City, and my wife has a much lower adventure threshold than I do, so we probably wouldn't venture out in our own. So, it's a wasted stop for us, and we've been there twice already.

A private island is a private beach, food and drink without cash, and a controlled environment. While that seems "Disney" to some, it may be preferable to wandering into the wrong neighborhood and meeting the wrong locals.

I'm sure Belize City is a lovely place if you do your research, have a local trusted guide and a plan, but that's a lot of work just for a vacation. I'd rather just have a beach, some snorkel gear, and a drink or two.

We are booked for May and its iffy if Harvest Caye will be ready. The first time we went to Belize, we booked Goffs Caye on our own. It was a great snorkeling fun. It was off a boat, though. It was $40 per person, a lot of people didn't snorkel, they sat on the beach while we snorkeled. This past November we went back to Belize and we just shopped, sat and had a few beers and just enjoyed being on vacation.....When we had booked the November cruise we were scheduled for Harvest Caye. I was so disappointed that it wasn't ready, but maybe it will be in May. I loved GSC and would love another port like that.

  6. I have been on the Dawn 5 times with two more booked, a 10 day in May and Boston to Bermuda in October.

The current CD is Dingo Dave, he is a lot of fun. Not sure if he will still be onboard in June. He was there in November.....

The shows in the Spinnaker, Not So Newlywed, Perfect Couple, Quest (rated R scavenger hunt) are a riot.

This past cruise had a very funny comedian, Rex Haven.

We had the drink package and the dining package, we never ate at the main dining room. We did specialty restaurants 5 night. and we did the buffets the first night and the last night of the cruise.

The ship is being refurbished in May/June and should be all fresh and sparkly for you June cruisers!!

I have never used the spa, sorry, no help there.

  7. I posted the below inside another thread but thought I should post here for additional coverage:

We suddenly became guardians to our two yr old granddaughter, we are leaving on an NCL cruise in just a few weeks.

I have a birth certificate, medical release, court order placing her with us, and a court order allowing her to leave the country during the cruise days.

NCL phone service thinks this will be adequate, can anyone think of anything else we may need. Have been unable to get through to a TSA service rep yet to see what they say.

I forgot to add, God bless!! More and more of my friends are becoming guardians to grandchildren, not something that they had planned on, just sometimes things happen. I hope you have a great cruise!!!

  8. I would only provide paper work if they ask for it. I travelled with my niece no one asked for any paperwork or permission to take her with us. More likely to confuse matters if you volunteer information at checkout, obviously provide information if asked.

I have brought friends of my daughter with us and they have never asked for the info. Once I offered it to them, I had so much paperwork, they quickly gave it back to me and said I was all set!!

  9. For the quick responses.

Where are cruising out of? Where is the cruise to?

  10. What about Roatan and Belize? Will they change time to local? Did you have a meet and greet on your cruise? Did you go? I'm really looking forward to my cruise nothing like the tropics in the middle of winter! If you have any more tips or advise I'd appreciate it.

They went by ship time on our last cruise in November, the hotel director explained that it was because we would have to change our watches, etc 4 times

  11. Hey Patty! That's really strange, I just made reservations on myNCL for Teppanyaki 2 days ago for our upcoming January Gem cruise. I wonder why it wouldn't let you? Hope all is well :D

    Bryan!! Happy New Year!!

Maybe cause it only seats 20 on the Dawn? I am not sure and neither did my PCC so I just booked with the concierge when we got to the priority lounge.

Your cruise is coming up!! January? Our next one is in May.

  12. As someone else suggested, go to myncl and just do it yourself, you get a confirmation instantly.

For some reason Teppanyaki was not available to make reservations on my NCL before my cruise on the Dawn. When I asked my PCC at NCL, he said to tell the concierge as soon as we got to the priorty lounge and we made our ressies then.

  13. I sail on 1/17/2016 and want to make dining reservations for the MDR.

What times are the evening shows on Dawn?

Are there any major differences between 2 MDRs?

    What are your preferences?

    Thanks!

Sunday night on the Dawn the Welcome Aboard show was a 8 pm and I missed it, I thought all the shows were 7 and 9. Also the week of our cruise, the first Elements show was at 630 pm.

I love the shows, so we ate our dinner early every night and then had a snack later :p.

  14. This is the situation on most of the cruises I've been on. We always bring a power strip. We also have a converter. I'm in an OS this time so maybe there will be more outlets?

I have never been in an OS, but we have been in the 2 bedroom and the family suites, with and without balcony....They have always had 3-4 outlets....

  15. I was on the Dawn last June for a Boston-Bermuda cruise. The only major complaint that I had at the time, was the number of public ladies rooms which had stalls marked out of order.

One of those was the ladies room located on the pool deck. Hopefully, they have been repaired. Our cabin bathroom was fine.

DH and I also brought a power strip for charging stuff.

Anyway, the Dawn will be undergoing a multimillion dollar dry dock in the spring. I am anxious to sail on her again afterward.

When we were on the Dawn in November, that ladies room by the pool was marked out of order every other day. Fortunately we were on deck 12 and could just bop over to the suite.

  16. can you tell me a little bit more about the entertainment. specifically what shows you saw that were audience participation. thanks for the review my family will be on the Dawn in March.

We have been on the Dawn a few times, the last time was this past November, they have the Not So Newlywed Show, The Perfect Couple Show, The Quest (which is at 11, its an R rated scavenger hunt, very funny) Second City did a show in the Spinakker....I went to every show except the Welcome Aboard show the first night. If they still have the Dancing with the Dawn Stars show, I missed it.

  17. This is walking distance, its right a Jackson Square:

The St. Louis Cathedral is one of New Orleans' most notable landmarks. Few cities in the world are so identified by a building as is New Orleans. The city is instantly recognized by our cathedral and its position overlooking Jackson Square.

This venerable building, its triple steeples towering above its historic neighbors, the Cabildo and the Presbytere - looks down benignly on the green of the Square and General Andrew Jackson on his bronze horse and on the block-long Pontalba Buildings with their lacy ironwork galleries. Truly, this is the heart of old New Orleans.

The Cathedral-Basilica of St. Louis King of France is the oldest Catholic cathedral in continual use in the United States.

As the caretakers of the Historic place of worship, we constantly battle the elements and the aging of the Cathedral with ongoing conservation and restoration. We invite you to become a "Friend of the St. Louis Cathedral" and help this national historic landmark remain the centerpiece in the great history of New Orleans!

  18. So, I am considering a first cruise to Bermuda the last week of Oct 2016, My options are Breakaway out of NY or Dawn out of Boston. I see that Breakaway is a new mega ship, I see that there are a lot of a la carte charges. What are the charges for? Shows? Speciality Dining?

Dawn is smaller but a tad bit more expensive on the cabins. Does Dawn offer any enticing ammenites?

We would have to fly into either city for departure.

What would your preference be? Any input would be appreciated.

I have never been on the Breakaway....

I have been on the Dawn 5 times with two more cruises booked, we are only 15 miles south of Boston, that's how we got hooked, but now we have taken 2 cruises out of New Orleans on the Dawn and love that itinerary. We are booked for October 21 to Bermuda, the ship is being refurbished in May/June, it was be like brand new, LOL!!

  19. I'm a little confused about this excursion. It isn't offered through NCL and on the website it says it is only offered through the cruise ships. Does that mean I can't go there since it isn't offered?

This excursion is offered through NCL. Maybe its sold out?
