  1. I agree! We were on the Dawn in January in an SJ and had an amazing amount of M&M's and gummy bears left everyday.

We have cruised in a suite on the Dawn 4 times and have never got gummies or m & m's. But my baby is 22, so maybe they save candy for families with younger children?

  2. Thanks for your off-topic input. It's good to know, in advance.

My friends were in 8172 two weeks ago. There was a med evac helicopter kept them awake the first night. They were actually smoking on their balcony when the helicopter appeared. They said their first thought was wow, they take this no smoking on the balcony seriously. They never mentioned the noise from spinnaker.

  3. If anyone knows, more out of my curiosity than concern. I will be traveling in a suite with 3 other adults. We all have different addresses. Will NCL mail each their own luggage tags or only to the primary person who booked the cruise? Not a big deal, as I can get the tags to the other cruisers, was wondering.

I was the primary person and the tags were all sent to my address

  4. Wow. That would have cost as much as the cruise did if you didn't have unlimited.

No kidding!! Thank goodness we purchased the unlimited package.

Just a note, make sure you key in "logout.com" in your browser to log out, we noticed that sometimes when we didn't do this, we remained online.

  5. Just went below 60 days out and the Internet package is available now.

Thanks, good to know!! BTW, between me and our group of 12 we logged in over 3000 minutes. The connection time wasn't too bad this cruise. The girls (my 22 year old and her best friend forgot to log out a couple of times).

  6. Who are Jose and Patti?

Jose and Patti are a husband and wife duet team that play in the atrium. They are great. I don't know your age range. But everyone in our group (45-55) loved them.(my 22 year old liked them, but not enough to sit through one of their shows).

They play 50s 60s 70s, country, soft rock....And they put on a great show.

He is Canadian and she is from Long Island, NY.

They even have a Neil Diamond tribute show that is in the Stardust Theatre.

Here is a link to their website:

  7. You would need to use both of your certificates on the same dinner as I understand it. They would be the guest dinners for the two of you. There is no additional value to your free dinners as you have the UDP. That's why when you could purchase the UDP, the price was reduced by $20 if you were platinum. It was reduced for the one dinner for you and not the guest dinner.

Our UDP was part of our suite package so there wasn't a price to be reduced.

I meant that if another couple comes to dinner with us we will use the certificates then.

  8. While I enjoyed Jose and Patty- it was from the lounge...for dinner I prefer a quite setting. Seems there will be just as much atrium seeing, with Modernos now up where the Star tBar was (and that was a wasted space... There was NEVERmore than one other couple up there (and that have it pertained off so only the starboard half was on...not sure why people don't go up there- its a great space with a view of the pool deck and ocean...given that- will be a great place for Moderno

I know what you mean, the Star Bar is in a great spot. I have never gone in there for a drink, just to meet with the concierge and for private events (meet and greets, suite get togethers)

  9. Recent cruisers, do you remember what was open for lunch on embarkation day? On Royal Carib it was just the buffet which was a madhouse. Hoping the mdr and blue lagoon are options. I am not in a suite so Cagney's isn't an option.

I am not positive, but I think The Venetian may be open for lunch on embarkation day.

  10. The concierge is no responsible for platinum benefits.

It's a voucher for 2 one guest no problem and we had no problem using it for 2 guests along side UDP as have others.

I will remember this for our next cruise. A few of our friends don't have the UDP and if we dine with us, we will give them one of our certificates . Thanks

  11. You can take a guest and if the other person is platinum he or she can take a guest. Therefore you can take another couple to a dinner with you, but it's likely true that you can't just give the two dinners to someone else. But you need the coupon to get your bottle of wine. We often just take it with us unopened.

That would make sense. We weren't planning on dining with them, I knew they had a dinner planned and was going to give them one of our certificates. We wound up getting the wine with our dinners.

  12. It was definitely a rude awakening for us on our third NCL cruise we have never seen anything like it. I complained to someone on GSC about his choice of music because every other word was Mother $&/#%ER and I have three kids under ten who don't need to hear that. Not surprising that there was a whole other side to his "business". I talked to a couple who also said they saw him and one other man sitting with suitcases in Nassau and wasn't it a shame that he didn't have an overcoat so he could hoist his boom box over his head John Cusack style (yes, we are that old). She said he brought it to the muster drill and wouldn't turn it off then either.

On another note, we got on the Getaway after the Sky where there was a group of people dressed in head to toe furry wolf outfits which made traveling with kids even more interesting. I wish NCL had put a stop to that group. Never mind the fact that I had to tell my own mother not to google anything about it to protect her innocence.

Were the wolf costume people part of that "Furry" group? They cruise alot

  13. also forgot...the Grand Atrium starts on deck 7, on deck 8 over looking are Moderna and Blue Lagoon, and on 9 is the internet cafe. Heard from the CD (Dingo Dave) that during dry dock, Internet cafe is going away (as everyone uses their own devices now) and Modernos is being moved to a place where diners don't have to listed to Jose and Patty during their meal

One of my favorite parts of Moderno was having a "reserved" seat for Jose and Patti!! Honestly, there was so much to do, I was only able to see them twice this cruise.

  14. Just got off Dawn Thanksgiving week.

We had UDP so we mainly ate in the specialty restaurants.

We boarded to late to get to Cagneys on embarkation day, so we did enjoy the buffet then. They had a nice roast strip loin (roast version of a NY Strip steak as Prime Rib is to a Rib Eye steak)

Le Bistro and Cagney were both very good. While we enjoyed La Cucina and Moderno- they're a step lower in our books. Tempanyaki was kinda in between. Relatively large servings of the protein including lobster and Fillet . I ordered the Fillet and Shrimp- quite good, but I noticed later that someone else ordered the seafood plate (lobster, scallops, and calamari) and had Fillet substituted for the calamari... much better way to go!

We never ate in Bambo-- but walking through on the way to the Tempanyaki room the food looked and smelled very well done. The sushi bar has the cool conveyor belt with the dishes of sushi passing by. None of these were open for lunch on our trip.

Some of these places create some great areas on the ship. There are 2 multi level open spaces on the ship- the "grand atrium" from deck 7 all the way up to 13 (really open on 7-9, after that basically a large glass elevator shaft) and another area on 6 and 7. On Six is Le Bistro, La Cucina, and Gatsby's Bar...with the casino just forward and open above to Bambo. This was my favorite lounge location.

On 7, just aft of bamboo is the Grand Atrium with the Java Bar (not just coffee!) and on the other side of the guest services are is the Pearly Kings Pub and all the way aft is the relocated Spinnakers lounge.

I know people hatters relocation, but frankly, the daytime actives in here were not so great, I was ok with he location (especially since we had one of the rooms on deck 12 with the floor to ceiling windows!)

We ate in The Venetion the last night- prime rib was very good, and daughters roast chicken as good as she had had in Cagneys.

We were.in 12032 the week before you. I wasn't sure I would like the suite without a balcony, but we didn't miss it at all.
