  1. My wife and I were on the POA this past March. We were very happy with the condition of the ship and the staff.

I would suggest the SE Penthouse 10516/ 10520 area. Some are connecting if this of interest to you. This is good for seeing the Napali Coast from your balcony. We loved the sail-by when leaving Kauai. In a suite you'll receive all the special offers NCL is running at the time of your sailing.

Good luck with planning and enjoy your cruise.

  2. Fligster,

Another question. On the last day of the cruise in Kauai, the itinerary currently says departure at 2:00pm...was it the same when you went? What time were you told to be back to the ship? I'm planning out the two days there and since it's such a short day there, a half-hour or hour make a difference.

    Thanks much.

For a 2 departure the all aboard would be 1:30. My DW and I are just back from a great Hawaii cruise.

  3. That's good to hear! It's the one tour that really interests me - thanks for the info!

Thanks for the location info! Exactly what I was wanting to know - and thanks for your responses on my other post too! These boards are making our planning so much easier!🙂

We loved touring with Mary Lou. She's very personable and we did things you wouldn't do with a bigger tour bus.

  4. We had a wonderful concierge on PoA, Thomas. He was attentive while not being overbearing. He graciously took care of any problems we had and gave answers to any questions we had. He was always friendly and efficient. He gave my family and me the opportunity to relax, have peace of mind and enjoy our cruise! Who could ask for more!! Thank you, Thomas, and thank you NCL for providing such a great concierge!

Agree. We just sailed the POA B2B and he was extremely helpful, especially taking care of an issue we had between the first and second week. He worked with the hotel director to solve the issue. We were involved with the two reduced intineraries in March and NCL was uncooperative but Thomas and others fixed the problem. He was always around and offered helpful tips about what to do on each island that were different from the normal suggestions. I look forward to sailing with him again.

  5. NCL's precruise hotel is the Marriott Waikiki.

You should check the pre-cruise packages (which includes transfers to/from hotel).

Every major hotel chain has multiple properties in Waikiki. There are no hotel areas closer to the port. For example, Hilton has 5 properties and 4 timeshares in Waikiki. We stay in the Hilton Garden Inn which is in the heart of Waikiki about 3 blocks to the beach. We have also stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village (right on the beach, but much more expensive) dozens of times.

That's what we did at the Marriott. NCL has a desk in the lobby. Your room cost will include transfer to the ship on Saturday if you book through NCL. You leave your bags in your room at checkout with cabin tags affixed. The bags will arrive at your cabin after you board. NCL provides a passenger van to the dock.

  6. We have stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. It is the best as far as beach areas go on Waikiki beach. It has a lovely view of diamond head. It has a very resort feel with multiple pools and restaurants on site.

We have also stayed at the Marriott Waikiki Beach and it was a good location as far as walking to restaurants and stores. It also has a nice view of diamond head from the rooms.

We stayed at both places on our recent trip to Hawaii and enjoyed them both. The HHV is very busy but large enough to spread everyone out. We like the Rainbow Tower. The Marriott is right across the street from Waikiki Beach and you'll find good walking spaces and plenty of shops.

    Enjoy your trip.

  7. Question about the Director's Cut tour on Kauai - where does this stop at and specifically did this stop at Waimea Canyon? We are thinking of doing it the 2nd day so we'd be sure to get back on time. We're renting a car the day before, and didn't want to hit the same places twice if possible!

We're sailing POA Sept 1 and this would actually be our only NCL excursion (so far). Renting a car in Maui for Ka'anapali beach, OLL, part of RTH, Mama's Fish House etc., then Mary Lou both days on the big island 😁

I don't remember all the stops but the tour went in the direction of Princeville and Hanalei. This is the opposite direction of the canyon. We thought the tour was just ok but this might have been influenced by the weather - a rainy day. We drove on our own to the canyon and checked out some beaches that were also in the area. The weather was good and we enjoyed the area.

  8. I can't tell you how 5 would fit in the Penthouse suite but it is a much better suite then the two BR. The best thing about the 2 BR is the wrap around balcony.

We just returned from the POA and had booked a Penthouse suite before we were able to upgrade. I did research on the 2 BR and it is a much different layout than the 2 BR on other NCL ships.

Good luck - Hawaii is amazing no matter what you choose. You are off the ship most of the time.

  9. We just did this on a recent Hawaii cruise. We left our bags inside the door to the hotel room. Be sure to affix your NCL cabin tags to the bags. The bags were delivered to our cabin later in the day.

The shuttles to the ship are assigned by time and you'll be given an info sheet when you arrive. You meet in the hotel lobby by the NCL desk to get on the shuttle.

    Have a great trip.

  10. There's husband and wife who run a nice tour of Kona - MaryLou's Island Tour. They meet you at the dock and it lasts 5 to 6 hours. You would need to make a reservation since they only book 6 to 8 people. My wife and I were just on Kona a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed the tour.

  11. I'll bite...pardon the pun.

I skip the desserts. Total waste of calories, riffs on gelatin.

This does not pertain to the crepes that are freshly made on some ships, although even those aren't as good anymore now that they don't have chocolate fondue sauce available. ( notice I said the fondue chocolate. Chocolate syrup is noxious)

Agree. Nothing I would waste the extra calories on.
