  1. Still not sharp (despite using the manual autofocus point selection...though the low light and high ISO contribute, right?), but here's a few more. I'm not sure how I ended up with it, but I kind of like all the blurriness and such - contributes to the mood, I think.

And are these too big, by the way? Should I try to post them smaller?

I have no problem with the size.

Here is a suggestion. Try using aperture mode selection, close down the aperture a couple of F stops, which should give you larger depth of field ... more will be in focus.

  2. We are doing the regatta in 2 weeks, and I was wondering what shoes to wear. Do people mostly wear tennis shoes or sandals or what? I know the web site says soft-soled shoes, but I was looking for more exact information. Thanks for your help.

If you plan on going and not being involved in the action, you can wear any soft sole shoe.

However, if you are working as crew, you will could be on your feet on a moving sail boat. Tennis/sneakers or boat shoes are good. Sandals/flip flops are not.

I have some questions for you. We are going out on the Oasis in June, coming in the day before. I was thinking about watching the ships that depart on Friday June 22.

So, first question, do you know of schedule of any leaving that date, and if so, is there a good place to watch them leaving?

  4. Although we've already booked this race' date=' I'm partially disabled and my left leg is not very strong.

Can anyone tell me how you transfer from the tender (from shore) into the sailing vessel? Do you need to climb a ladder? Or, is it a quick hop from one boat to another?

I'm really excited about this excursion (so is DH) and hope I get to race

    Your guidance is greatly appreciated.[/quote']

No ladder, you shall be fine.;)

  5. sooooo........I'm not a wine fan and like a beer or two or more. Can I buy any for the room to have? From my limited research to date, Royal Caribbean doesn't offer drink plans for beer, correct? Sailing the Allure of the Seas in July.......any tips for beer drinkers besides lots of money?

Take a collapsible cooler. Have your room steward fill it with ice each day. Buy your beers and put them on ice. The frig is worthless for keeping beers cold.

I used to fill the bathroom sink up with ice, but DW did not appreciate that. Some people just do not have the right priorities.

  6. Hello all!

My husband and I just booked our first cruise on EOS and couldn't be more excited!! Since we're pretty young and travel a lot we are just doing an inside stateroom. We were originally in room 6669 and were just moved up to 1357 on the 10th deck. Does anyone know anything about this room? or if the 10th deck is better then the 6th? We are worried that since its higher up we will feel the ship moving more. Thanks for all your help in advance!! We have learned SO much while reading this board!!!

    T

Deck 10 is great. One deck up and you are at the pool, WJ ... where you will spend a lot of time, so no need to use elevators.

Do not be concerned about ship movement. You will be fine up there.

  7. Hi,

    Just a couple of questions...

For the platinum and up Ice Show, does this include the 5day sailings also?

Has anyone seen the review from another poster (new today on page 1) regarding the 'smell' on the Explorer? I'm beginning to regret my decision to sail on this ship...hope his review is a huge exaggeration.

Relax. Any ship will have this smell when someone tosses something down a toilet that should not be tossed.

As for the EOS, a wonderful ship and an exceptional crew. Having done it twice, I can tell you from experience, they know how to run a ship.

Another nice thing about it is you get a farly experienced group of cruisers, many that have done this ship multiple times. Nice having people on your cruise that know how to act.

Take a look at my review, linked in my sig. Should put your mind at ease. Prepare for a great cruise.

  8. There is enough to worry about and organize without added door decorations to the list of things to do.

    Oh my goodness!

Didn't know that I should be worrying. Never have.

Must be something wrong with me.

  9. The key word is "control", not prevent. If you bring on unlimited booze, how is the cruise line going to control how stupid you get if they can't cut you off? I'm not surprised that you can't grasp this simple fact. You don't wan't anyone to cut you off. You want to be able to get as drunk and stupid as you want to be, no matter how obnoxious, rude, or unpleasant you would be to other passengers.

First, let's get something straight. I have no problem whatsoever in cruise lines not allowing alcohol to be brought on board. I do have a problem with RCI specifically that has a policy that NO beverages whatsoever, alcohol and non-alcohol are permitted to be brought on, but they sometimes allow water, soda etc, but are strict with alcohol. Make policies and enforce them.

And your point about not being able to "cut you off", they certainly do, and one method of "cutting you off" is throwing you off the ship in the next port.

As for being able to get as drunk and stupid as you want to be, no matter how obnoxious, rude, or unpleasant you would be to other passengers, I do not care if it is from alcohol brought on board, alcohol bought on board, or a caffeine or sugar high. It is the responsibility of the cruise line and their security to take the appropriate action.

  10. .

The cruise lines won't let passengers bring alcohol on board but passengers can bring on bottled water and soft drinks. This is discrimination. They sell all of it on board and apparently to make a profit. If it is about revenue than look at what they are losing.

Why should it be any different? People bring their own soda and water because they dont want to pay $3 for that on board.

I dont like payin $5 for beer either but I can't briing it on board.

What I find amazing is that the written policy of RCI is that no beverage, alcohol or non alcohol, is permitted to be brought on board.

Then there are the "water people" that have posted about 1 million posts asking "will I be able to bring my bottled water on board" of which there are 1 million answers, some yes, some no, some maybe.

The "water people" drive me crazy. Hello, the free water on board is better than the bottled water, but, the "water people" are allowed to bring their water on board, but, others are not allowed to bring beer or other alcoholic beverages.

    Ridiculous.

  11. Captain's update right now as I am typing: US helicopter en route right now from Puerto Rico, will rendezvous with us in one hour (about 4pm) so helicopter can approach and airlift patient and one of the ship's nurses to safety. Process should take about 30 minutes, after which we head back towards Bayonne. Oh, just learned that the fitness center and all forward areas will be closed during this operation -- that's why my clsas was canceled!

Same thing happened our cruise. Had to turn back south towards PR to meet Coast Guard helicopter. Met up with the helicopter at about 10 PM.

Like you said, all outside decks were closed, so you really did not get to see the operation.

Afterwards, it was full speed ahead to Bayonne. Took us about 4 hours heading south, so I would estimate caused us to lose 8 hours, but Captain Olav got into Bayonne just about on scheduled time, 8:01 AM.
