1. Why has Celebrity let this mess with their web-site continue for so long??

That's a good question. I know a good number of airline employees who bid for their trips every month. There are thousands of pilots and flight attendants to be assigned routes and every month the airlines computers spit out assignments with little, if any, problem. Failures in their systems would, I expect, result in planes sitting on the ground with no crews to work the flight. That doesn't happen because the airlines have hired competent people. Can you imagine the mess if Celebrity IT people had been hired by United:eek:?

Of course, maybe it's our fault we can't log on. After all, Senator Reid says older people are too stupid to work the internet!!!

  2. Aft A1 on M class can have foot stools and loungers but are much bigger balconies.

Or at least A foot stool or did someone walk off with the one in #1117 on the Connie?:p

  3. We booked AQ on a cruise that doesn't sail until 1/2015. According to the offer it should qualify, but beginning to think we will never get those 25 bonus points!

Don't give up the ship! I hope you have some evidence of the offer. When I spoke with the CC rep, she acknowledged I was due the 25 pts, but couldn't guarantee I'd get them in time for a TA in April. That's when I got just a little forceful, if that's the right word. At that point a supervisor said to wait until the end of March before contacting them again. So what's the real story? Maybe they hope to have them inputted for cruises already taken; maybe they're tired of people calling and are trying to buy time. The curious thing is the rep didn't know what the break points are for each CC category. I would think that would be Captains Club 101. I'll see in five days. Stay tuned.

  4. We had our points and bonus posted to 'My Celebrity' last Nov.

What we're talking about (at least what I'm talking about) is an offer that started late in November and ran until at least the end of December. I don't think we're talking about the same thing

  5. While I received Captains Club credit for our early March cruise, we have not yet gotten our bonus points. I called and was told they would eventually be posted to my account. It got me wondering, has anyone received there bonus points yet?

There's another thread on this but the answer is still "no" per the respondents

thus far. I was told give them until the end of this month. We'll see.

  6.
.

But the thing I learned from this is I will never book a trans-Atlantic cruise (our favorites) before final payment. I want to book next spring's TA and I'm going to wait until after final payment.

    !
I don't know about that be universally true, Helen. I tend to wait until final payment on most of our cruises, but I booked a TA for next month long before final payment and the price of our cabin is now up $969 p/p. Our price appears in no history of pricing that I can find. Pure luck, I know, but sometimes it pays to take the leap.
  7. The way I see it is if a $10 bottle of wine pleases you, count your blessings that you don't have to spend $50 for the same pleasure. Is a Chevy good enough for you? Great, You didn't have to buy a Cadillac. Same goes for cabins. Be happy you can go on the cheap and still have an enjoyable trip. I had an inside once, back in 1988 when I was single. Had a great trip. But now I can't cruise without a balcony. If the sun is on it I don't have to fight for a deck chair. At night in the dark I'll use my Kindle, fall asleep and drag myself to bed at 2AM. I don't have to dress to see the ocean or walk half a ship length to the Promenade. When the sea is rough, I can watch the waves break and the clouds come in, all from the comfort of my own balcony. Best of all, I can do this fully dressed, in my bathrobe, or in my underwear or less, I guess. But this is how I feel; others can be just as happy with an inside, saving a lot of money, too. So who cares? To each his own. Why is there so much discussion and argument on these boards over personal choice?
  8. Take his card and find some homeless person on Market St. that looks like him. Tell him he can spend three days on a cruise ship and eat all the food he wants and even take a shower. I bet you will find some takers. :D

And, the brother's wife might find the change extremely exciting

  9. We have decided we are going to go with the itinerary and price between Cunard and Celebrity. Whoever offers the best deal for the itinerary we are looking for we will book with. Cunard the food is better, service is better you can take your own drink onboard. Celebrity has blu and better entertainment (all IMHO)

Well, we can go ring a round the rosy ad infinitum debating what we all know to be a matter of taste. For me all things being equal, I would go with Cunard over Celebrity every time, and that means giving up some very good benefits on X.

  10.
You don't have access to just the top 100. Just do an Amazon search for free books and there are literally hundreds that come up, splittable down by Genre/Author etc. Only downside is you may never have heard of the author.

    Happy hunting:).
I usually read histories, biographies, or old classics and many of the classics are free or 99 cents. If you're Prime, it's even better. Cunard is the only line I've traveled on that had a decent lirary, but on the Connie last week, I actually found several books of interest. Took a bit of searching, though. I'd rather hold a book than a Kindle.
  11. On this board, the cheerleaders just will not allow for the fact that another cruise line can do a good job.

I have sailed Celebrity, RCI, NCL, Princess, Carnival and HAL. Never had a bad cruise on any of them...and much to the shock of Celebrity people, the MDR food on Carnival's Dream was every bit as good as that on the Equinox we sailed the same year (last year).

In fact, we are on the Millennium for our upcoming Alaska trip because when we booked it was the least expensive for a one way north (the price has subsequently gone up $2000.00). Otherwise we wouldn't have hesitated to take any of the other mainstream lines doing the same itinerary.

I find that often the people who knock other lines have never actually sailed on them.

I've never understood why people are so defensive about their cruise line of choice. I like Celebrity but I would choose another cruise line at the drop of a hat, if it suited me better. Twenty years ago DW and I actually appeared in an RCL infomercial. We haven't been back on them since. There's nothing wrong with Princess (they do allow discounting, don't they still?), HAL, or Cunard but don't dare say that on a Celebrity board and don't praise Celebrity on the Princess site. Kind of silly, really

  12. We routinely deal with this type of question (in much detail) on the Ports of Calls/Europe/Med/Italy board. But suffice it so day that if you want a direct convenient transfer from the airport to the port, the best way is usually just taking a land taxi. The cost does vary but is usually about 40 Euros (total cost). While others are waiting for their cruise line transfer (which usually costs more then 20 Euros per person) others simply hop in their taxi and are off to the port. There are other less costly options (like the ATVO bus to People Mover option) but none are more convenient of faster then a good ole fashioned taxi.

    Hank

For 40 Euros I would agree with you. I'm a bit surprised, however, as I always stay in a Mestre hotel near the foot of the causeway to Piazalle Roma and that's a 30-35 Euro fare to Marco Polo. The hotel is roughly half way between the port and the airport, and it cost me about 30 Euros to get to the ship, the one time I did it. So 40 would be a really good deal which I would leap at. Buses are a pain, especially when there's the excitement and anticipation of a cruise in the offing

  13. I love my Kindle. I feel that it is one of the best products ever made. You can sit outside and read in the sun with no glare.

    !

Well, I can't sit outside and read in the sun with my Kindle HD. I can with my old model. Kindles are great but be aware of what is important to you and what capabilities the particular Kindle model has. They are invaluable for traveling, that's for sure. I have at least 1000 hardbound books in my library and love the feel of a real book, but I confess when on the road, only a Kindle comes with me.

  14. People would cough or sneeze on their hands' date=' or rub their noses, handle the serving utensils and then toss them into the food pans right on top of the food.[/font']

Whenever we saw that, we avoided the pans of food where people helped themselves and only took the food that was plated by the attendants.

You are so right. What kind of idiot would place the utensil on top of the food?

I dunno but there sure are a lot of them

  15. Those of us who have completed cruises already that qualified for the 25 Bonus Points have not received them as of yet and these are the ones Celebrity is saying will receive their Bonus Points "the end of March".

If my next cruise were in November or even June, I wouldn't be nervous, but mine is in less than a month. I would hope Celebrity would take the proximity of cruises into consideration when they enter them. I'm sure the likelihood of that is zip, nil, nada, niente, so I'll go back to being concerned. What time does the CC open on April 1?:p

  16. We had the same experience on the March 3rd sailing. Having shirtless beer drinkers in their bathing suits in Rendezvous during boat drill gave us a totally different view of Constellation than our previous two months on board from October to December.

Although we enjoyed our five days on board, the loud music dictated by Miami is a total turn off. I hope the decibel readers will return the volume to safe levels. This problem did not exist on longer voyages.

Ah, yes, the shirtless beer drinkers were on the March 8 trip, too. Funny how young men think that's going to attract even a college age girl, none of whom seemed to be paying the least attention. As to the loud music, I must admit I didn't notice it, and, believe me, I would have hated it had I noticed.

  17. How do the Broadway show tickets work? Can you choose any show you wish, or are you given a list to choose from?

They mention Kinky Boots, Aladdin, and Book of Mormon with other shows having a surcharge. Yankee and Met games are available, too. Times Square hotel, why you can't get any more central than that. So, on the face of it, it sounds pretty good. The reality might be quite different, of course, involving nose bleed seats, small, hard to rent hotels rooms etc. I used to wait until 5PM and wander down to Times Square where tickets were half price for Broadway and off Broadway shows that hadn't sold out that night. This was years ago, but did I ever benefit with some great shows. Even lousy hotel rooms in the City are high priced. I have no idea of what a seat at the ballpark goes for nowadays, but, again, there are some in every park that would make me wish I was home watching on TV. So this would be a bit of a gamble, but probably worth the chance if you're not too picky. Personally, I would do it on my own and know what I was getting, but I'm a native NYer and still have relatively easy access to NYC, so don't listen to me:D

  18. There is a lot that can be done with breakfast. Real eggs, instead of egg substitute, the amount of sugar used in fruit compote and smoothies, types of flour used in pancakes, fresh juice, instead of juice from a concentrate, etc. Also the portion size can be reduced and more healthy options can be offered while minimizing and eliminating the less healthy ones.

As one poster stated above with their choices, what choices you make is huge in deciding how healthy your breakfast is. Reducing or eliminating sugar, salt, potatoes, and bread alone can go a long way to having a healthy/clean breakfast.

Ok enough of that, so what about Blu? IMHO the menu moves in a good direction to give healthier/clean options to those who want them and still having the salty, tasty bacon that I love! Having smoothies as an option is great as well. These smoothies are not the huge ones offered at Jamba Juice, but are smaller in portion and simply prepared.

As already stated the environment is key as well. Blu is very quiet compare to some of the breakfast places I have visited and many here have said that it is quieter that the MDR.

Ok, now I'm hungry and it's breakfast time.

    Enjoy Blu!

Good for you, but I'm not impressed. You're taking all the joy out of eating. Eggs are still eggs, bacon is still bacon, and there's only so much that can be done with them on a breakfast menu.

  19. We've been tracking several cruises later this year, and, yes, the prices have skyrocketed. Fortunately, we can either find a different cruise line or a different place to vacation on land. We have cruised so much over the years that the bloom is off the rose. In fact last week, disembarking from our fourth cruise in four months, my wife asked plaintively, "Do we really want to do this again" Well, yes, at least once more on a TA next month, but maybe not on another TA we had just booked on board for November. Celebrity is in business to make money, and I have no problem with that. But I am in business to save money and the two of us might not be able to reach agreement any more. The decision will be much more easily made if we feel we are "cruised out".

  20. I almost booked the African safari/black sea combo, then I read the fine print. The safari portion is 1st and due to weight limits on the vehicles each person is allowed a total of 32 lbs of luggage; carry-ons, personal items and luggage combined. Jeez, there are days when I swear my purse alone weighs 32 lbs! No way can I do a 5 day safari then 12 day cruise with formal nights etc. with only 32 lbs of stuff. (but I secretly wish I was the kind of person who could!);)

Maybe the solution would be the nudist cruise that's been mentioned in 2015. Of course, the airlines might take issue

  21. I suggest you make sure on line before you depart that your status is correct after your credit appears. I have no doubt that if your on line credits/status is correct the angel of a CC host will take care of you. But if it was me I would call CC to make sure my reservation matches my on line status before I cruise.

Believe me, I've already been on the horn with the CC and I've been told to wait until the end of March. There are a good number of us in the same situation, and the credits, we are told, have to be added manually.
