  1. Having sailed on the forward hump several times, the partitions pretty much block the majority of the wind. Never had any problems with wind sitting outside there.

Thank you for the helpful response. Of course natural wind makes a difference to any balcony but sailing into a 20 knot wind made me wonder about using the balcony of a partly forward facing cabin.

  2. On Eclipse in December/January you could not exchange the sparkling wine in the MDR.

On the December 14 Eclipse, I returned the sparkling wine and was given a credit on my ship's account. I remember this distinctly because the sommelier told me the full cost of the bottle I ordered that night, $60, would appear on the chit but the credit would appear on the TV account. He was absolutely right. Appears there are different opinions even on the same ship. If worse came to worse, I'd have killed the gift bottle anyway. Nothing goes to waste with me:D

  3. Bringing full bottles of wine to the dining room, Really? Takes a lot of guts. Do you take your wine with you when you go out to eat at home? What's the difference? What's next, packing a lunch and go eating it in a spevialty restaraunt? We drink wine, but always buy it on the ship.Maybe they should not allow any wine or liquor brought on the ship.

Well, I do bring my own sparkplugs, oil and filter when I get a tune up. Is that a problem?:p

  4. I was home all day and never received a call from this TA. I guess they didn't want my business bad enough.

BosoxI - Didn't the TA offer you gratuities, also? Did you get to take advantage of the 123 after you booked a GTY? I didn't think was allowed.

    t

Before calling the TA this morning I called Celebrity to confirm that the guaranty offer was still available and to ask if the 1-2-3 applied. He checked at his end and confirmed that 1-2-3 did apply . Frankly, I was pleasantly surprised as the GTY rate was $250 p/p lower than the lowest regular rate for that category. He also led me to believe the GTY might not be offered for long. Armed with that knowledge I called the TA and told the receptionist that if I didn't get a call back quickly, I would go elsewhere. For whatever reason I got the call 30 minutes later. My stars were aligned

  5. My happy ending: I took a chance and waited to book this morning. Fortunately, the offer of a guarantee cabin was still active, and the on line TA also gave us the $100 OBC if we booked by 1PM, which we were only happy to do.

  6. Tiggertastic.... I booked through my travel agent, after looking at an online warehouse travel website. They were offering a $190 obc. My travel agent said they could match that in the form of a $100 obc and a $90 dining credit. Since we plan on using the specialty restaurants, this was an acceptable match for us.

My travel agent said that they don't put these credits thru until after final payment is received, for obvious reasons, but I made our final payment last week.

I am just the type that is more comfortable having a printed document, from the Cruise Line, showing the amounts in the event of any discrepancy once onboard. I'm borderline fanatical about having all my little ducks in a row!

(I need a vacation to relax..... my vacation is making me stressed: ARGH!) LOL

We had the exact situation on the Eclipse last month. A card was in our room saying we we entitled to a credit for a specialty restaurant but it didn't indicate how much. When nothing showed up on our statement after three days, I inquired at customer relations where I was told it was part of a larger OBC which had showed up. Fortunately, I had with me the TA invoice which clearly showed the OBC plus the specialty restaurant amount. The purser gave me the $70 credit but said he would check with HQ. A week later he called to say X had no record of the amount but he would honor the credit anyway. The bottom line is to be sure your $90 is separate and distinct from any other credits and absolutely have your TA's invoice with you. Some TAs use the specialty restaurant as an inducement, but it appears there is a big time disconnect with it.

  7. This thread just irritates me. :D We were on the Dec 7th sailing on The Summit in a RS and didn't have chocolates on the pillow one single night. We assumed after the 2nd night they had done away with them. Very disappointed to read now that that is not the case!

I'm especially glad now that we commented about it on our comment card! Grrrr ;)

For what you paid they should have left you the whole box plus a block of shares in Whitman's

  8. It's an interesting problem for Celebrity. If they are selling A1 guarantee, then they are selling blu guarantee...and it's reasonable for someone booking that guarantee, to not be happy getting an S2 cabin, unless celebrity includes Blu (not on an as available basis..but available as if they were in an aqua class cabin).

Good point. Blu 9 is the only reason we book Aqua and then only at a reqsonable price

  9. Okay, for a very well educated person, I'm an idiot.

    Anyone willing to fess up?

    Enjoy!

    Kel:)

We're all idiots at some point; it's just a matter of how we prove it! I've fallen asleep on chocolate but it had the decency to soften but stay within its wrapper. You must really be hot stuff!

  10. Thanks for the quick answers. Sounds like we will be using the Turnpike. Didnt realise it would take 4 hours...just what we need after after a 10 hour flight:(

Florida is a loooooong state. On my first trip there while in college, I was so happy to be almost to FLL when we crossed the line from Georgia. After all weren't there palm trees growing on the Florida side? What a rude awakening awaited us.

  11. My wife never plays Bingo on land, but really looks forward to it on a ship. Unfortunately, on the Connie in December there was none, though the Eclipse had it. I just booked the Silhouette for next month, so can anyone say what the recent experience has been? Bingo, si or Bingo, no?

  12. According to the email that I received for a 7 day Caribbean, it was as follows:

$ 100 Shipboard Credit for BALCONY

$ 150 Shipboard Credit for Aqua Class

$ 200 Shipboard Credit for Suite

Up to $ 300 is for Europe.

    Bosox1,

This is the way I read the offer for the Caribbean. This online TA is offering the classic drink package or an OBC up to $300...not both. This is the same as Celebrity's offer. The extra benefit that this TA is offering is pre paid gratuities. This is something that my TA offers to me and I am able to cancel without a fee and is always there to take my calls.

Thanks to both of you To me their site is very confusing, as it does not clearly differentiate between Europe and the Carib and other destinations. No matter, as it appears I can do better with less worry by listing with Celebrity and transferring it to my TA. Plus, with Celebrity I can get an Elite upgrade to a C2 cabin. Not necessarily a good idea but certainly a nice option. I also answered my own question: I would have to pay the gratuities upfront because both Traditional times are completely filled, leaving only Select which is what I want anyway. If I could talk to one of their agents to clarify all this, I might go with them, but as it is, I'd be buying a pig in a polk, not knowing for sure what I'd be getting until I get surprised tomorrow morning. Thanks again for your insights.

  13. Of course, for the cruise I'm interested in the reservation must be made today, Sunday, and they are closed so no questions get answered. For a 7 day Carib it appears that the choice of one 1-2-3 is absolute, as it comes from Celebrity. Past that point it gets fuzzy for me, at least. I can apparently get "up to a $300 OBC" but for my 7 date trip in a Concierge Class there is no telling how much the actual credit would be. That's crucial to know. If it's the full $300 plus the 1-2-3 OBC of $200, that is a nice piece of change. If it were only , say, $200 I'm better off booking directly with Celebrity and transferring to the known quantity of my current agent. I might get a bit less OBC but it might be worth the piece of mind. Curiously, I have to pay the gratuities up front for a February cruise, but I don't have to for the exact same cruise in March. I wonder why. And I might have to list for Traditional dining, when I prefer Select. Incidentally, I've used this big TA twice in the past with no problems at all. I don't know why I'm nervous now.

  14. Hey, it is a Cruise Line not a Religion or a Cult.

If the only cruise ship I ever set foot on was Celebrity, in the English language that is clearly LOYAL.

Ah, surely there are other English words that would also fit but are not very complementary.

Celebrity's "Loyalty" program exists only because Princess and other lines have them. It's a question of staying competitive and in no way is a measure of Celebrity's love for its customers. When the other lines drop their programs, you can bet X will drop theirs. This should be no surprise. I am always surprised at the way some people jump to the defense of Celebrity, as though they where receiving a paycheck. Who knows, maybe some of them are. I like X but I'm not married to it, as would be obvious if you could see my cruise history on other lines

  15. Thank you for sharing your review, and happy to hear that you had a wonderful cruise on Constellation. Looking forward to having you onboard again in the future!

We were on the same cruise and enjoyed ourselves so much we'll be back on March 8 and it's not because we need to visit Cozumel and Key West again

  16. I booked a cruise onboard last month with the intent to transfer it to my travel agent. Last Friday I faxed the request to Celebrity. As of today, one week later, my agent has not received it. Is this typical or should I be contacting Celebrity? At a minimum I'm resending the document.
