  1. If you need to get to Heathrow, which would be you choice port at which to disembark?

We've done both, most recently Harwich earlier this year, but I don't have a clear recollection of how long it takes from Southampton. Nor do I clearly recall the ease of travel from there. My preference would be a hired car. I'm embarrassed; my memory is failing me.:(

  2. About half of our 40 or so cruises have been guarantees. Last week we decided to take a 5 day quicky leading into a 14 day cruise we booked long ago. Why? Because the gty was $250 less than the A2 and $470 less than the A1. The A2s were under the solarium and quite tolerable, while the A1s with the exception of 3 staterooms by the elevator were all good. We wound up in an A1 away from the elevator and saved almost a thousand dollars. There have been times when we wound up in a balcony cabin far forward, a bit rocky but we are not prone to motion sickness. We are prone to look for decent deals so we can cruise more often. GTYs are not for everyone, that's for sure.

  3. ters.

. That said, they are experimenting with Suite concierge lounges etc..and doing away with Butlers.....so perhaps there is hope in site. If they want us to pay....they need to deliver. IMHO

    Safe sailing to all.

As long as there's hope in site, I'm happy.

  4. People who list their past and future cruises will tell you it's done only to help them track their experiences. It has nothing to do with snobbery. Do you believe that?

I admit to being a snob when it comes to table manners and the use of proper English but not so much with listing past cruises. :) To each his own, I guess.

  5. As said above they will be available about 45-49 days before your cruise. That being said, sometimes even though the blue button to order does appear, it says they are not able to complete order. Just call Celebrity and a representative will order them for you. It will then take about a week and they will be in your mailbox at your mailing address.

Or maybe not. I asked a CC representative to mail ours to us and that was at least two weeks ago, probably three. I like a lot of things about Celebrity, but doing business with the land based personnel is very difficult. I guess we'll get them on the pier and fudge fake ones for the bus from the hotel to the port.

  6. Sally Rand lives! My history only shows 4 large blocks, addressing, I think, 1 old point equals 30 new points and then in another block my current old points total and finally in the fourth block my new points total. Fortunately, they have my information right. There is also a line of script which I think refers to the system going into effect on November 25. No surprises, I guess and no access to my cruise history, not even a flash.

  7. Is there a way to check that all cruises and points have been added to your account? Over the years we believe quite a few are missing. Started cruising with Celebrity in 1990 1 to 2 cruises every year. My points don't seem to add up and we never really bothered to look into it after we reached top tier Elite.

Though you can check out your cruising history, which you probably have already done, you must be able to prove you were on a particular ship at a particular time. My wife succeeded in having points credited because she had documents from an ancient cruise. Celebrity didn't know who they were dealing with.:D

  8. I really don't understand the 6 month deal. Why is it not good till expiration date?

    Help me

I don't know that there is an explanation other than a country can set whatever requirements it chooses for foreigners to enter. It's not a question of reentry into the States; it's a question of what a particular foreign country requires. Ten years ago I decided to accompany my wife on one of her frequent business trips to Europe, a five day trip to Greece in this case. I got to the Delta counter at JFK where the agent informed me that Greece requires six months on the passport; I had fewer than that but much longer than five days. No matter, had I been allowed on the plane, Delta would have faced penalties. My fault for not checking, but it had never before been an issue in all my years of travel. A lesson learned and one that woke me up last week. Consider your ten year passport to be actually a nine and a half year document and you'll have no trouble. I don't know what the other islands in the Caribbean require, but as I said, St. Lucia demands six months and I would think that all it takes is one jurisdiction on the cruise route to queer the whole trip.

  9. This is probably a completely unnecessary thread, but last week I awoke with a terrible feeling that some of the islands I would be visiting in December might require at least six months validity on my passport. Mine had only four months left on it. Sure 'nuff, the first place I checked-St. Lucia- requires six months, so off I went in a hurry to get a new passport. Fortunately, in this instance, my Government did not let me down and the new one arrived yesterday. It would have been terrible to arrive at the cruise terminal only to be denied boarding . For anyone planning a Christmas trip, now is the time to make sure of your documents.

  10. At least with watches you can pick out model, do your homework before leaving home, and know that the shipboard price (in the unlikely event the ship carries your exact model) is reasonable. Jewelry, on the other hand, poses insurmountable problems for the layman. My wife never buys any jewelry worth more than a few hundred dollars. She prefers to get stung on some Caribbean island she won't revisit for a year or so.:)

  11. I have infinite capacity to finish all that I have ordered. Even when I am "not hungry" once the food is in front of me, nothing will remain at the end of the meal. By all that is right and just I should weigh 300 pounds, but I don't, thanks to exceptional genes, I suppose. Bring on the appetizers, bring on the entree and the dessert, too. Nothing will remain! (And if it's an exceptionally good meal and the waiter has the decency to turn his back, I'll lick the plate, too. :)) P.S. It upsets me to see people load their plates in a buffet and then finish only half.

  12. Chatting with the officers was one of the things we loved most about the Elite lounge. They took the time to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and wanted feedback to our cruising experience.

And I cringe when I see one coming, having had too much to do with officers when I was working:p

  13. The issues of the internet.......you said "more and more you hate

leaving home"....well, on the net you cannot read tone or inflection.

So you don't hate leaving home "that much":D......I have never been

to Milano.......maybe one day I will get there.

It is worth the trip, though it's mostly a business city. But take a short ride on the train, and Lake Como appears. Am I the only one to find "The Last Supper" a bit disappointing? The Cathedral makes up for it and if you like opera La Scala is right next to the Galleria, the world's first shopping mall, I've read. Hope you get there soon

  14. Some of you have addressed my favorite pet peeves: what good is washing one's hands if then the door handle is grabbed? Laying serving implements on top of the food!!! I see it all the time at salad bars in grocery stores. And the old Knuckle-Button combination. Wonderful. I'm glad I'm not alone in this :)

  15. I guess that is what makes the world go round then.....you hate to

leave home? Must mean you hate traveling and cruising?

I love it and I take the flights all in stride and as a part of my trip.

Then again, I have not seen most of the world and being home?

If I could travel the world? I would do it in a heartbeat.

    Different strokes for different folks:)

I think you missed my point: I have traveled the world and no longer have an overriding need to see it again:D If I hated cruising or travel, I wouldn't leave home at all, but we cruise two or more times a year and fly routinely to Europe, pretty much on a monthly basis. But as the song says "There's no Place Like Home" and we are fortunate to live in the best place in the whole of the USA. BTW we're in a hotel room in Milano, Italy at this very moment, :)

  16. With all due respect, you booked a guaranty with the full knowledge that you would not be able to select our cabin. In return you got, I assume, a very good price. DW and I frequently do the same, hoping for the best, but accepting of the worst. Changing cabins is probably possible on many ships, but New Year cruises are usually sold out. Hope it all works out,as other posters have noted.

  17. We have disembarked at FLL as late as 7:45 and still made a flight around 9-9:30. NO sweat. If we had missed it, we'd have gone stand by for the next one until we finally connected. Once the cruise is over, there's only one place I want to be and that's HOME. In fact, more and more, I hate to leave home, as I have pretty much seen the world as a young man and have no need to try to make up for lost time as an old man. Plus, taking a late flight means getting home after dark, sometimes in less than optimum conditions. No thanks.

  18. We booked an Aqua Veranda room last January on the Reflection. We cruise alot. Aqua Class, in my opinion was the biggest waste of money ever. We liked the MDR much more than Blu and we could only use the Persian Gardens one time. We tried several times during the cruise, but the heated loungers were alway taken.

This January we sail her again and we booked a regular veranda room.

Amen. Just not worth the considerable extra cost

  19. Of course they are not official government stamps but you are helping someone make money by having they put a fake stamp in your passport.

We got our stamped at Machu Picchu but be advised that American passports are supposed to be stamped only by authorized officials. I wonder what would happen if a customs agent in a bad mood noticed fake stamps.
