  1. Good to see that there are non-judgmental folks on Cruise Critic. Maybe it is the name (Critic) that draws out the best in people.

Strident postings and self-assured, inaccurate commenting can sour the open communications supplied by this forum.

TT, it should be fairly obvious what 'tude was projected by too many of the passengers on that cruise, somewhat reflective of the postings on this thread.

TT, I wasn't able to find those "other postings" before the cruise that you referenced in your post, below. In any case, I will try to quell your curiosity over the clientele on the ship.

Regent crashed the prices on all levels of cabins during the last three weeks prior to departure. With that, all nature of Brits and "local" Floridians toppled into the soup, drawn in by ridiculously cheap fares. The Brits got glued together in a big ball of silver hair to loudly discuss their good fortune over finding low prices for their 4th or 10th time in the Carib. The Floridians' conversations seemed limited to comparing what gated community they lived in or what life saving surgeries they had accumulated, while lighting one cigarette with the dying butt of another. They did expand their loud conversations as the cruise went on to remembrances of their neighborhood restaurants (many no longer exist) and favorite dishes when they lived in New Jersey, New York and Conn.

We did have pleasant times with a Peruvian couple, some folks from Toronto, Nashville and Santa Barbara. They were equally shocked by what the cheap prices dredged up.

Ya'll have a nice life, OK?

    Charming...

  2. Well, this has really diverted from the original posting.Everytime I log in to this thread I hope to find something helpful as I too am a first time Regent cruiser.

:D If this carries on much longer I may have to ask some questions about clothing to buy in the malls in Florida during my second week of holiday near Bradenton!!!!In fact I need a good costume e.g Zoggs if they sell them in the U S......oh no I have joined the clothes debate!!

    :D

  3. We made the expedition with A&K, but both they and Tauck use the Le Ponant ships (Le Boreal, Le Austral, ...) which are the most luxurious ships traveling to Antarctica. 200 pax, so below the drive-by limit and all cabins with verandas which you might think are unimportant for Antarctica, but you'd be wrong.

The A&K expedition was magnificent and we also went with them to the Arctic, both on Le Boreal.

    Agree...

Yes,you do need a balcony if possible.we had one and it was the best balcony experience on all our trips.they are not just there for sunbathing! Any sudden appearance of anything spectacular, and you are there straight away. We woke up one morning to see a tiny bird sitting on our balcony rail.it was the middle of our 5 days in Antarctica.he was so tired,he barely moved. He stayed for 24 hrs then continued on his way.

  4. Thank Heaven she's on the water and going strong for me next month. I love every bolt, line, and pane on that little ship. Small and clean lined she arrives ports like a rich family yacht. Passengers on the mega ships look down on Navigator's top deck and wonder why they chose a floating city over this dream vessel. And I look up, and wave, happy I'm on board and they are not. Jack

That will do for me Jack.I am a first timer on Regent and badly need a good holiday..Thanks...;)

  5. I am not sure that we will be sharing transfer vehicles. After booking we were told there were no hotel rooms left for us,and we would have to pay for our own! But we kicked up a stink and suddenly a room became available.I suppose if we are the only ones needing transfer from that hotel,we can go when we like, otherwise we may well let them know we will be making our own way. Thanks for the tips.

  6. As part of last Summer's Bucket Sale, Princess is paying the gratuities (hotel charge) on my cruise next Spring. It doesn't show on the personalizer, but does on the voucher I received from my TA. I understand it will show on my folio each day as a hotel charge followed by a credit.

I have never seen this.hope to find a bargain sometime...

  7. Sunprince - Please "lighten up" a bit. If we have a total ban on any humor whatsoever on these threads we'll only be left with discussions about Ebola! And just look where we're at on that, today! After 25 years in the Navy, I had my share of exercise (and actual "real life") man overboard drills, fire drills, Nuclear/biological agent drills, abandon ship drills, hostile boarding drills, and collision drills. Not to mention being shot at a few times.

Like Jack (2old4this), JPR, Ted, Gnomie1, and the others, I'm sure we all dutifully and promptly attend all required lifeboat drills and pay meticulous attention to all instructions. We already have one house mother on this board. I don't think we need anymore. Regards.

    That's a bit hard.....

  8. Since many people do not make reservations online, Regent withholds reservations so that people boarding the ship have an opportunity to book. In terms of being full every night, it really depends upon the itinerary and the length of the cruise. On port intensive cruises and shorter itineraries (7-12 nights), it can be difficult to get more than one reservation per restaurant. We were just on a 16 night cruise and there were nights when you could just go to the restaurant to see if they had availability and you could be seated right away.

You may want to dine in Compass Rose on the second night which is usually the night of the Captain's Reception and the menu in Compass Rose is special. Most people prefer to forego the specialty restaurants on that night (and on the night of the Captain's Farewell). I find availability many times on the first night (early). It never hurts to stop by the restaurants and check for cancellations, etc.

Hope this helps. Have a great cruise!

Thanks for the tip.Have booked Prime 7 for our first night so we,hopefully, won't miss the captains dinner.

What is the other restaurant we can book? We have only been able to book one restaurant.?

  9. "Vino" is Spanish for wine, so you may wonder why they say "vino tinto" instead of simply "vino rojo" ("rojo" meaning "red"). The word "tinto" comes from the Latin word "tinctus," which means "tinted" or "dyed." In wine-making, red grapes are used to tint white grapes until the liquid turns a red or darker color. Thus, vino tinto is not merely red grape-based, but can represent a blend of different wine varietals.

Tinto de verano is our favourite and is on tap, cold and refreshing...

It is simpler than sangria, normally made up of 1 part of table red wine and 1 part gaseosa. Gaseosa is a general term for sodas and carbonated drinks, but the preferred mixer is a mild-flavored, low-sugar, carbonated lemonade, of which La Casera is the best known brand. Proportions can vary greatly according to the taste of every individual. Traditional-flavored gaseosa can be replicated by mixing Sprite or 7-Up with carbonated water.

  10. When we booked ,the ship told us how much it would be in pounds for the week.We paid that amount. When we converted it to dollars at that days rate,we were paying an extra $6 each per day.So, we cancelled and when we arrived on board we paid in cash with dollars.(less) We got the dollars at a good rate from our local post office.

  11. All those in the UK.be aware that if you pre pay for the AI package, you will pay a lot more then the advertised rate as the conversion from pounds to dollars Is poor.We cancelled our pre payment and paid on the ship once we realised.

The AI package is not just about getting drunk. We did use it for cocktails,a couple of beers at lunch for my husband and a glass of fizz for me.

Then wine for dinner, but we could get proper cans of coke and tonic and not horrible fountain stuff.Plus we were able to have carbonated water with our meals and plenty of bottles of water on tours etc.coffees of all shapes and flavours and fruit teas were also appreciated when we wanted them.
