  1. Got back home at about 2 pm. Sigh. I miss my waiters and Risa and the great food and little casino hostess and cold drinks and hot sun.

Newbie had a great time and kept asking, "why haven't I done this before???" so I think she's already hooked. Talking about going again as soon as next tax season is over.

Still am amazed at how well-kept the ship is for her age. And how much maintenance they do every single day, especially on port days when people are off the ship. She looks great.

I'll probably write a short review tomorrow. I didn't take any notes or take many pics since I just did the same cruise 4 months ago, and when I sail with others, I don't keep track of what I've done or eaten nearly as closely.

But I'm sure everyone's just been waiting for me to report back. :p

Welcome home! I am already thinking about booking Fantasy again in the spring with my oldest kid. Maybe if I have enough money I can book it while onboard the Fascination in October.

  2. Tomorrow we get ON!!!! Had to "rub it in"... soon you will be doing the same to me when you board the Fascination.

Aw I missed this over the weekend. Happy Belated Bon Voyage!!!

Yeah, Nancy! Wish you were coming with us.

This time tomorrow, we'll be up and getting ready to head to the port. :D

One day we will get a chance to sail together. I just know it! Hope you guys are having a good time. :)

  3. Just booked for Thanksgiving week. Anyone with experience on a holiday cruise? Anyone ever book an ocean view room at BACK of ship on M deck? Better? Worse?

I had U-239 on one of our cruises which was an aft facing oceanview. The room itself was awkward with a support pole right behind the door so it wouldn't open all the way. The movement was more than I have ever felt. We typically do portholes at the front. The movement was more of a feeling of pressure straight down. Hard to describe though. While I wouldn't turn it down if I had to book one again, I would much prefer my porthole or midship better. It was also really loud pulling into port. You can hear the hydraulics and banging of metal louder here than any other cabin I have had.

  4. Hi there! I gotta tell ya...your reviews for the Fantasy have been amazing! I got sad when I had nothing more to read!! I'm taking my first cruise this November (also live in Charleston) and I cannot wait! Its all I think about, and thanks to this site, I feel as if I'm better prepared. You all are exactly the type of people my husband and I like to party with! It's a shame you won't be on ours! We haven't decided which beach to visit in Nassau (Cable or Junkanoo), but your pictures of Junkanoo looked gorgeous! Thanks again for providing us new cruisers with your adventures!!

I am glad you enjoyed the reviews! We will probably be sailing on Fantasy again in February or March but cant wait to write a review of our sailing from Jacksonville with the FG's.

Maybe we will run into each other out and about in Charleston!

Thank you sooo much for our review!! We just booked our third cruise for Fantasy. It is a long way off next October :(. But we had such a great time this past June/July on her, that we are counting the days already!! I hope to meet some friendly folks like you and your Fantasy Girls!

Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

NEXT OCTOBER?? Oh my! Such a long wait!

Thanks for reading. I am happy that folks are still reading the reviews. :)

  5. Hi All4fun&fun4all! Thank you so much posting your review!!!! My DH and I are going on the Fantasy this December for a B2B, and then I am also planning a small group (bellydance) cruise on it for December of 2014, and they have assigned us Cat's Lounge for our dance classes. I'm actually wondering how many people could comfortably fit on the dance floor with space to take lessons (not squished shoulder to shoulder like sardines :D)? Or if you have any pictures of the dance floor with a few people on it (I've been looking to see if I can judge size relatively by that). Also, if the chairs were moved out of the way, do you think someone could safely stand in between the bolted down tables, or do you think that might be a safety risk for tripping? :p [i'm actually hoping for about 500-750 sq ft of open space). :)

Any thoughts on the lounge that you may have, I'd love to hear. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!! :D

    --SC

OOOOO!!! Bellydancing! Something I have wanted to try. I have been doing pole dance classes for fitness for a few years and it is quite a workout. I have heard Bellydancing is quite a workout as well!

I have pictures of Cat's Lounge in my March 2012 review (link below) with some folks on the dance floor and I think I have some pics in my June 2010 review (link below) with it empty. I would copy the photos and paste here but work has my picture ability stifled.

Depending on the number of folks that you have, it should be a decent sized room. How many people will be participating?

  6. Would you mind sending me a PM? I tried to send you one, but for some reason it wont let me! (Go figure..) Would like to talk to you about your experiences on the Fantasy! Thanks!

stevo...do you use Facebook? You could friend me and then message me that way.

  7. It was a blast. We are doing it again in November hope some of you all are on this one as well

Have you seen yourself in any pics? My next sailing is on Fascination for Halloween!

Love these review threads you've typed up!!!! They've helped me in planning my first cruise a ton!

Wish I you would share your latest successful "smuggling technique" though! Haha

I am glad you enjoyed our journey. I wish I could share our smuggling techniques but Carnival reads these boards. However, I can say to check out YouTube videos. ;)

  8. Have a great trip. I can't wait to see your pictures since I'll be on her in 9 days and have never been. Upload now before you leave port :)

There are tons of pics in the 3 reviews in my signature below, momsdumplin, if you want to pass the time until NCTribeFan returns!

  9. Well, it looks like we have a 0% chance of seeing the sun today in Charleston, so I probably won't board and rush straight to the Serenity Deck to sit in the sun! And since it's not like I need to learn my way around the ship, I should have plenty of time to take pics.

Of course I left my regular camera at home, so will have to use my phone for everything. That's assuming I don't manage to let it hurl itself overboard! :o

The Hampton Inn West Ashley is great. Very convenient. Not the cheapest option but it includes a decent breakfast, parking and the round-trip shuttle. Great sushi next door; CVS and Food Lion across the street. Even have a Manager's Reception with snacks and free beverages (including beer and wine).

Shuttle doesn't start until noon and I'm going nuts just waiting. I'm not a patient traveler. I can't relax until I "ding" my S&S card for the first time and step on the ship.

Can't wait to see the old gal again. :D

Oh look! My countdown clock says SAILED!!!!

Bon Voyage to you! So, you got to try the sushi? I was on my way home from the gym last night and passed by the hotel and waved as I went by.

    Enjoy your cruise!

  10. I really don't know! I knew you were sailing the 7-night shortly after I got back. I must've been so bummed because we missed HMC that I didn't want to read about anyone else being there. :(

And then it was tax season. And suddenly, I'm sailing again! Just wait until you're old like me and you'll see how the time flies! :p

Hope we can get together for a drink when I get back. Maybe head to Fleet Landing for some shrimp and grits and watch her sail away without us.

I totally would have been saddened if we had missed HMC. Or GT for that matter. They really need to lengthen the amount of time in GT.

I wont be able to watch sailaway unfortunately since I work until 5pm but will gladly meet you for a drink once I escape my desk. Have fun tomorrow!

  11. I can't believe I haven't read this review yet!

And on the first page are pictures of Tim the Magician! No one lately seems to have seen him. I really grew rather fond of him by the end of 12 nights. DD & her hubby got along with him really well.

Hope he's on the ship Friday. I plan on picking on him relentlessly. :p

    OK, back to reading!

Tim the Magician was fascinating. I was truly dumbfounded!

Seriously....how did you miss this review? :p

  12. Nancy,

THANK YOU! I cannot thank you enough for your reviews, pictures, hotel research, and answers. We are sailing on the Fantasy June 29th. I was a little apprehensive about Carnival as I have not sailed with them in more than 10 years, but really wanted the convenience of the Charleston port. I read every page of your reviews and finally booked! I now am researching hotels and low and behold found your pictures and advice on those threads too! Just wanted to drop a note to you to thank you for the amount of time you put in to helping us planners out there. We are so excited about our upcoming cruise and doing a pre-cruise vacation in Charleston. We vacation in Charleston at least once per year, so combining that plus a cruise is gonna make for a great time!!!

Thank you for reading! I really enjoy helping people out. :D

  13. Well, we have one end of May on the Fascination... aren't you doing a "ladies" trip sometime around then?

We will be on Fascination in October for my "ladies" trip. And yep....me and my roomie are in another porthole room. This time on Empress deck! Moving up in the world! :p

  14. Nancy, this has nothing to do with your review (which I loved), but it made me think of you -- http://www.kotulas.com/deals/medium-winerack-the-advantages-are-obvious. Might remedy the water bottle fiasco!

Am actually thinking of trying this! What a neat website!

I read your review back in early February and it was one of the reasons we chose the Fantasy. We are so looking forward to it. Whenever your review pops back up I read the new posts. I work at a hospital and we are very diligent in treating areas that may be affected. Could you tell me all the places to check in the cabin? Thanks!

To check for bedbugs? Mainly I just check the mattresses especially in the areas along the head of the bed and on the underside because those little buggers dont really hang out on the topside of the mattress. Also look for black specks which would be their droppings.

    Thanks for continuing to read!

  15. This is an amazing review. Loving all the pics and your humour.

I have to know though, how did you get the picture of the Fun Times so crisp and readable? They never turn out that way in my reviews.

I probably wont ever sail on this ship but it certainly helps to pass the time while I am waiting for a Friday to end and have 220 days until my next cruise.

  16. Well, a clean and shiny funnel is important! :p

You're supposed to be able to access the "secret" decks from the main lounge, but when I looked last time, all the doors said "employees" or something similar and I wasn't going to barge through. You can go all the way forward way up on the Sun deck. That's a good spot for sailaway.

I'll be sure to request Gerald's section when I first board and see if that helps. Don't know if Platinum will have any impact, but I'll try. If not, I'll just go down about 30 minutes earlier than I really want to eat, get a pager, and sit at the bar and have a drink. ;)

I asked in the Charleston thread on the East Coast Departures board, but no response yet. Are they still doing road construction in front of the pier (Concord Street?)?

I havent been in that area in awhile but I can find out for ya.
