Is there a specific reason you are cruising on Silversea?  All luxury cruise lines are somewhat formal and its my understanding that Silversea is the most formal.   We have no issue with more formal dress, its actually a positive for SS to us.   Considering not having a jacket is so important to you maybe a less formal cruise line would be better.   If you are set on Silversea there appear to be many not formal options (including room service) and I'm sure someone would be willing to lend you a sportscoat.

Yes. We love Silversea and like formal evening. Hence my question trying to figure out whether there is a possibility of travelling without a jacket but still being able to enjoy formal evenings!

Hello future permanent traveler!  Husband and I are going this route starting between January 2022-March 2022. Total Nomads!!  All depends when we get everything sold and done.  We will have no home, just a "home base" at either daughters house or sons house where we will keep important papers and that's about it.  We are allowing ourselves one backpack and one suitcase each.  He will not be bringing a jacket either.  We plan to fly or take repo cruises to get from one continent to another,  and we have thought of this.  We plan to either have him one borrow one ( we have heard of them being avail) or just not dine formally.

One suitcase filled with clothing needed to hike Patagonia and live in a beach town a month later is a true packing challenge!!

    We're very excited.

Same for us. We will empty our appartement in Switzerland and have it rented for some years. We should have one suitcase each plus a medium backbag as a carry on. We intend to do some repo as well! Nice to read that it seems possible to borrow jackets on board SS ships. Where did you get this information? Thanks and enjoy the preparation of your long vacation around the world!!!

  3. I will become permanent traveller starting summer 2022 and was wondering whether it is possible to "borrow" a jacket certain evenings for dinner. I know that I can go to Hot Rocks or Spaccanapoli, because theses locations are always casual, but I would like also to enjoy more formal atmosphere. I will have no problem to travel with a black trouser, a white shirt and a bow tie but it will definitely not be possible to carry a jacket with me just for the sake of using it a few evenings per year. Thanks for your advices.

  4. My December 2 FLL LIM has been updated on my Silversea from Dawn to Moon. Same itinerary. Quite happy. From France or Switzerland we do not have the same issue as those highlighted by cruisers from Great Britain. So should SS keep the cruise as it is now, we will be able to join the ship on December 2 in FLL! I keep my fingers crossed.

She is with Silversea. You might ask to speak with a manager, and request a new agent who has been with SS for a long time. When I requested my person, I had to tell the manager why I was unhappy with New Guy, and it was a useful conversation to have. I'm sure they would want to know that you've had 3 bad New Guys in such a short time, and that you will be better served by one of their long-timers.

    Good luck!

Thanks for your answer. I wish I knew the name of your SS travel advisor! I will try to exchange with a manager in London.

    Hi seaver,

You've gotten some good answers so far, and I'll just chime with a slightly different perspective. Unlike FLRI, my needs are pretty simple, so I've opted to work with SS directly. My first guy was AWESOME, and that relationship lasted several years until he left. The next guy was TERRIBLE, so I ended that one in a hurry (like, 2 months). I'm now with a long-time favorite of many SSers, and she is quite wonderful. I've been with her for several years and look forward to our long-lasting partnership. Again, it works for me because all I need is what she specializes in.

Just to clarify your answer the lady you are dealing with at the moment (long time favorite of many SSers, is an independent travel agent or a SS travel advisor? I deal with SS travel advisor since, as you, my requests are quite simple. Used to have a nice guy. But he left and I have had 3 new TA in just 6 months! Not impressed by any of them and I am desperately looking for a good one!

  7. Any passenger booked on the Dawn between November 2021 and March 2022 received specific information other than the general letter by Barbara M. informing of the switch between Dawn and Moon? After asking further information regarding my December cruise from FLL to LIM, a consumer sales manager in London replied that at this stage there is no plan to cancel or even amend itineraries. But I find it strange that the Moon cruises are still not appearing on SS website. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

and this came to us today

    Dear Esteemed Guest,

I hope this email finds you safe and well.

We are writing today to advise you that due to the ongoing global situation, Silversea has made the decision to operate your upcoming South America voyage aboard Silver Moon, Silver Dawn’s sister ship, as Silver Dawn won’t start service until the Spring. This ship change will have little to no impact on your Silversea experience as the new Silver Moon, who debuted this summer in the Greek Isles, features many of the same innovative hallmarks of Silver Dawn, including the small-ship intimacy and spacious all-suite accommodation, as well as the all-new S.A.L.T. programme (Sea and Land Taste), an immersive culinary concept that enables guests to travel deeper through a range of destination-based gastronomic experiences.

In the coming days, your reservation will be amended, moving you to your same suite aboard Silver Moon. The cruise fare will not change and at the moment we do not foresee itinerary modifications

Should you choose to cancel your voyage, please note that you will be subject to our standard cancellation terms.

On behalf of everyone at Silversea, we look forward to welcoming you aboard for a wonderfully enriching experience.

    Best personal regards,

    Barbara Muckermann
    Chief Commercial Officer

    Just received the same letter!

One issue as another cruise critic on another board says:

Just one caveat - it is up to the CDC to decide whether they will accept vaccines not approved in the US, i.e. AstraZeneca.

We are both vaccinated with either Pfizer or Moderna. AstraZeneca is not approved in Switzerland 🇨🇭

  10. Now that it seems European will be able to enter the US as from beginning of November, I really hope the Dawn will start her cruise as expected on November 19. I am supposed to sail on her December 2 from FLL to Lima. Flights have been booked through Silver Air. We are fully vaccinated so ready to sail. Should South America be too challenging for a cruise operator, do you think the December 2 cruise will go anyway with maybe a change of itinerary after the Panama Canal to sail North up to Mexico then California? Is this an option? Or just a loop in the Caribbean from/to FLL? What is your best estimate please? Thanks.

Why not try for the B2  tourist visa which gives 6 month admission to USA or so I believe. You might be able to get one if you explain your trip.

Thanks for the idea. The point is that should I apply for a B2 visa and be denied, I would could be banned from entering the USA for years. And it is never possible to know why one’s have been denied a visa. I am in the mid fifty’s, I have retired from work and have enough financial resources to sustain a pretty nice way of living till the end of my life. So I guess I should get the visa, but who knows? Difficult to take such a risk.  It’s pity because obviously the B2 visa is the answer to my question!

Yeah shave a few days off the 85 keep it to 88 days before you board QM2 for UK.

Thanks. What is counterintuitive is to discover that the days spent on a ship in the Caribbean are taken into account to assess the 90-day mark in the USA. I thought that when leaving the US after 85 days I would be ok. And that returning to NYC after 2 weeks on the Caribbean I would have no issue to explain the immigration officier that I enter the US only for a few hours leaving the same day for Southampton. From your explanations I understand that it is not as easy as that. Pity!

  13. I will spend 85 days in the US before boarding QM2 in November 2022 in Brooklyn for a loop in the Caribbean. Then back to Brooklyn just a few hours before continuing aboard QM2 to Southampton.
knowing that I will travel using the Visa Waiver Program with ESTA, and knowing that I will be allowed 90 days in the US do you know what will happen as far as immigration is concerned when arriving in Brooklyn from the Caribbean? Do I have to go through immigration? Can I remain in the ship without clearing the US immigration? If going through immigration is there a risk that I will face issue with the immigration officer because my length of stay in the US+Caribbean will be longer than 90 days? Thanks for your help on this matter.
