The new shuttle drop off point is Varco Vespuci. On a map it doesn't look far from the previous shuttle stop at Largo Della Pace. But distances can be deceiving. yes, even the regular train will send your lugage to the ship. There's a large tent outside the downtown train depot in Anchorage ... just tell those employees which ship your boarding and it will be in your cabin when you arrive.

You would have easier access to shops, etc and most of the hotels are larger, more modernized (think elevator) and located across from the Mestre train depot. One pr of shorts takes up no space and can easily be washed in the sink if you need to wear them a 2nd time. In my dozen or so visits to Alaska I've only worn shorts once .... in Fairbanks. But I pack them every time, as well as a pr of flip flops. As for warm weather clothing, wear layers ........a tshirt next to your skin, a sweatshirt/hoody next, then topped with a waterproof jacket. Carry a small daypack so you have a place to store your layers, as well as wallets, cameras, sunglasses etc

The cruise-contracted train from the airport has a different schedule than the regular train from downtown Anchorage. The regular train leaves downtown at 6:45am and arrives Seward at 11:15. You should have time for 2-3 hrs at Exit Glacier. The shuttles leave Seward hourly on the half hour so you could catch the 12:30pm and be at the park by 1pm. Catch the 4pm return shuttle to be back by 4:30 since your onboard time will be 5. Be sure to make a SHUTTLE RESERVATION ! and take the taxi phone numbers for backup. typically you need at least TWO nites in Denali in order to take a bus tour thru the park. However, due to a rockslide the park road is only open to about Milepost 40. Bear sightings typically start near Toklat at Mile 50 so your potential for wildlife sightings will be very limited when you can only travel on 40 miles of the park's 90 miles of roadway. Having said that, Sept is rutting season so the moose are active and are often seen within the first 5-6 miles of the park road. Another thought .... you don;t say when in Sept. The Denali buses stop running around Sept 10-15. Check the park web site for details. Kinda quirky, artsy fartsy shopping place People typically do Denali flight seeing from Talkeetna. Personally, Denali is the hightlight of my Alaska trips. If you're taking the train, you can check your luggage at the tent outside the train station and it will be delivered directly to your CABIN. Just tell the porters which ship you're on and they'll take care of it. Luggage doesn't travel on the train; it is trucked to Seward.

The bridge from PRoma to the train station is a biggie if you can't manage your luggage easily. The Venice train will stop there anyway.

I can only speak of my experience, in Sept 2019, so this probably won't help you. Plus we aren't early risers so had bfast around 7:30 then tried for train departures around 9/9:30am, (which helped us avoid the early morning rush) In Civi and Livorno, getting to the train station was a 2 part journey .... a port shuttle from the ship to the port entrance, then a city bus from there to the train station. In Civi the shuttles were running constantly so the bus filled up and we were on our way within 5 minutes or so. And when we arrived at the port entrance ( Largo della Pace), the city bus arrived within 5 minutes. The city bus ran every 15-20 minutes and cost 1E. We caught the 9:30 train to S Pietro. If it's offered, I recommend it. In Cannes we were scheduled to be on the 8am tender #6 but there was a problem, and delay. Our tender left at 9. We missed the train to Monaco. If the priority is to limit handling suitcases, you might want to consider staying in Mesre and taking the ATVO Airport Express Bus from Treviso. 12E for the 50 minute ride. The ATVO buses are like a big greyhound bus, comfortable, A/C and luggage goes in the hold beneath . The bus will drop you off next to the train station in Mestre where there are several hotels. Mestre is the last stop on the mainland before crossing the bridge into Venice. This makes it more affordable than Venice, but you can easily reach Venice by bus or train in less than 10 minutes and a few E. And when you're ready to head to Trieste you can take the train from Mestre. There are several hotels within a 5 minute walk of the PRoma. (If you need an elevator be sure to ask ). The Grand Canal is only 2-3 blocks from PRoma so easy access to start your sightseeing. You pay for the convenience tho. Mondo is recommended in Rick Steves guides. We hired a private driver when we visited Naples in Sept 2019. Our port time was 7 - 7. I think you'll be fine with your port times. You really need to think about where and how to spend your time tho. Our original plan was to see Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. But as I researched the various tours, I found that companies that offered both, didn't really spend any time on the coast; they either went to Sorrento ( which didn't interest me) or stopped at an overlook above Positano. Our priority was the Amalfi Coast and we wanted to spend time in Positano, Amalfi AND Ravello. So we reluctantly decided to skip Pompeii. With a private driver we could make our own itinerary. Typically they do an 8 hr day, but we asked for an extra hr, so our loop took 9 hrs, from 8-5. We had at least an hr in each village, rode the ferry from Positano to Amalfi, a leiurely lunch in Ravello, and on the return drive we didn't retrace our steps but came back thru the mountains. It was a great day! If you limit your time on the coast to visiting only one village, you'll have no problem getting back on time. But as I said, our focus was to see a few villages. When I discussed our original plan with the company, they said no way. There wasn't enough time to see all 3 villages AND Pompeii. They didn't want their reputation ruined by my overzealous plans ! For the past few yrs, a taxi has been 40-45E from the airport to Piazzale Roma. A 20 minute ride. I've always used the ATVO Airport Express bus, 8E It's like a greyhound bus ... no stops and is also a 20 minute ride. Luggage goes in a hold beneath the bus. Leaves every 30 minutes.
