  1. So what happens if they have gathering and offer free drinks, shouldnt we be paying a tax on that...

    just saying...

They do have those events. They take place in international waters, where there's no tax to pay.

  2. Someone from each cabin needs to purchase for their cabin. So get there early. We sailed in October and we had the Vibe, we loved it. While there we met some awesome people. A few of which were traveling with a larger group. Some of those members didn't want to get there early, so they missed out on the Vibe.

Just one person per cabin needs to be there though? We were debating boarding separately, and wondered if this would work.

  3. Or more straightforward, whats the cheapest way to get liquor on the ship into my body?

Some of the drinks are high priced and basically sugar water with a small amount of booze. A frozen drink might have half a shot in it but cost $12, or those shooter drinks that come in shot glass but are filled with syrup.

Whats the cheapest liquor per dollar on the boat for people paying per drink?

Is bar service at $100 a bottle cheaper than a per shot basis on the ship? Bottle of wine for $30 or finding a cheap magnum bottle at the liquor store and paying the $30 corkage? What's the cheapest shot of 80 proof liquor at the bars, if quality doesn't matter?

I haven't priced it out, but I imagine a dry gin martini gets you pretty close. Go with whatever their lower level gin is for the most bang for the buck - gin is usually a higher proof than vodka.

  4. Brenda Braxton Cabaret show at the Supper Club. Excellent foodie evening

Brenda Baxton is one of the stars in the After Midnight show in the main theater. She and a few members of the AM band do a separate Cabaret show in the Supper Club when the brat pack are off.

    Broadway songs. Intimate chit chat.

The show is the same price as For The Record. I think it is $29.99 plus tip. We had the SDP, so we paid the $15 upcharge plus tip ($17.70)

The five course dinner ran 90 minutes. 45 minutes to get through a couple of courses and 45 minutes more dining during the show.

The waiters were very professional presenting and explaining each of the items in each course.

I would add that they had special compartmented plates for each course. Seems like a long term activity.

Good food. Good music. Well worth $15 (or $30).

Thanks so much for answering my question before I even asked it! This show sounds great. I'll have to check it out if it's still up in January - I didn't see it listed to prebook, so will have to do so onboard.

  5. Please excuse this last minute post as I fly out early in the morning don't have time to search the boards for this information..........I haven't sailed on NCL in forever!!!!! Do they have Coke or Pepsi products? Also, are you allowed to bring any sodas on board? Cans or bottles? Bottled water? Don't need enough to justify the soda package but wanted to know if I could take a few of my favs on board.

    Thanks in advance................

Pepsi products. You can bring your own onboard as well, soda or water.

  6. We have connecting mini-suites booked on the Escape in January. I know that only the staff is supposed to open the balcony dividers, and therefore I would NEVER do it myself. Does anyone know what type of tool I would need to open them, so that I don't accidentally bring it with me to be tempted? ;)

  7. Does anyone have a picture of the Vibe food menu? We were there in January on the Getaway (it was fantastic) but I never looked for/at the menu. We're planning to try for passes again this year, and was just wondering what the choices were. Thanks!

  8. Trying to decide which to book. It is a single mom and daughter 23 son 20. We want the UBP. Planned to get son an inside but isn't old enough to book a room. Daughter and I need UBP but can't get UBP with inside room if we book for her So I would have to get 2 balconies ? Or maybe do a suite- get all the free packages.. Need to look at pricing. Know 3rd person free but he sleeps in and stays up late= need 2 rooms

    This is for 12/19/15

If you book this month, the freestyle promos apply to insides as well.

  9. We've cruised with HAL, Princess, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean. Some friends are taking a cruise in March on NCL's Dawn and have asked us to join them. Feel like I know nothing about NCL and would welcome any feedback, especially about the Dawn.

I'm late to the party, but I'm going to say the opposite of most people on this list. I haven't done HAL or RC in years, but have done both Princess and X recently, as well as NCL, and we like NCL more than the other. For one, we like the fluidity of the Freestyle Dining on NCL so that we can dine with the new friends we meet and not have our schedule arranged around a meal. We did the Anytime dining last time we were on Princess (last summer with the in-laws, who favor Princess) and don't feel it's nearly as well implemented as it is on NCL. We've also had a lot more fun with the LGBT crowd on our NCL cruises, and find the entertainment MUCH better.

As always, your milage may vary. Also, we've mostly done the newer, big ships on NCL recently, but all the above holds true of our trip on the Sun a few years back. Less broadway style shows, but still much better entertainment than Princess and X. From what I hear, the newer Royal ships also have great entertainment, so if you like those shows, NCL should work well for you.

  10. Speaking of NCL excursions, I wish their website's list could be (a) sorted by port, and (b) downloaded as a pdf - would be so much easier when multiple people are involved.

After logging in to MyNCL and going to the shore excursions for your trip, scroll down to "Filter By" on the left side and click the day you want. Still no way to download as a PDF that I know of - Princess had that, which was nice.

  11. We're booked on a cruise on the Escape in January; final payment is Monday. Some friends may be interesting in joining. I priced out the different categories today. With all changes, should we expect to see any price reductions over the next few months, or should they just go ahead and book soon? Thanks!

  12. Hey all. We currently have three rooms booked for an upcoming cruise on the Escape, still outside of final payment. One of the couples can't make it, but we have some other friends who may be interested. We booked a while ago, so locked in a low rate and the included gratuity UBP. Can we transfer the reservation, or do we have to cancel and rebook?

Before people tell me to call NCL, I did, and they said we can't, but I'm not sure if they could keep track of who was on the original reservation when we booked. Could we change person 1 one day, then change person 2 on the next? Anyone have any luck with this? Thanks!

  13. Also, there is no better sleeping than being in the cool, dark inside cabin. Have a great cruise.

That's a mixed blessing. After staying in an inside, DH says he'll sleep all day if there's no source of natural light to wake him up. :) Since I like hanging out with him, we book an oceanview or above now.

  14. All the ships, as I remember, have something each night in the main theater. However, the Getaway having two main shows performing will have taken up 4 nights for those, assuming all remains the same. The other type theater events usually don't need reservations. The Freestyle Daily will announce each evening what will be in the theater the next night. The weeks entertainment schedule was available through iConcierge last time also, or your room's TV.

In case anyone reading this doesn't know/gets confused, the schedule function of the iConcierge is free and available once you get on the ship. It was a great way to see what was coming up in the week before the daily came out each night. We used it to book our shows around the other stuff we wanted to see (Howl at the Moon, for us.)

  15. Eeeek. Can you imagine if a bar tender tasted every drink to make sure that it was perfect (and perfect to one person isn't always perfect to another) how drunk they would be before long? LOL Yea, I don't see that happening...you would end up with no drinks and a bartender laying on the floor. :p

That must be the reason that some people are reporting slow bar service!!

  16. They have drinks that go over 11 bucks. If you specify like Hendricks gin for a gin and tonic it does go over. I also asked about Johnny Walkder Blue and it was 16 bucks.

All the bars have a very detailed listing of all the drinks and liquors along with prices. Just ask. They had to go in back to get a couple of my Liquor requests but they can make anything drink wise most people could think of. Most mixed tropical drinks ran 8 to 9 bucks.

You will sign for your drinks on a reciept and anything over 11 bucks you just pay the difference. I thought that was fair. We added up all our reciepts and it was over 800 for the week on Pearl this month.

Don't judge me now, everyone needs a hobby....... :)

On my last few cruises (last in January) Hendricks always rang up the same cost as Tanqueray. Is this a new change?

  17. Probably better to say you sometimes get a better deal with a TA? We have two cruises booked. Tried 4 TA's, two of the huge online, one local cruise "specialists" and a big box. All were given a chance to give me a deal on both cruises, none could do any better than my PCC. Two were more than my PCC!! One charged for all changes, two charged $25 for any changes and one allowed no changes after booking. Not a better deal in any way.

I know for sure on my last 5 cruises I've gotten a better rate through a TA than through Norwegian, using either a large online TA or our local member's only warehouse. The online TA has, in theory, a $25 change fee, but I've been able to upgrade for free without it. The warehouse TA doesn't have any fees.

According to my experience, I should say that you always get a better deal with a TA, but everyone may not have access to the right ones.

  18. Hello, it's been awhile since we sailed NCL, and looking at the floor plans for both rooms, it doesn't look like much of a difference between these two rooms on Epic. If anyone has been in both, are there any extra perks or benefits to get the Mini over the balcony ? Thanks !

Minis have nicer bathrooms, with double sinks, and better showers. On some ships, you'll get a larger bed as well.
