  1. I received an upsell call once. It was 4 of us in a inside cabin and the offer was for the owner's suite for $900. I turned it down but did ask how we got selected.

This agent claims it was because it was 4 in an inside cabin and they thought we may want the space. Who knows what the real criteria is.

  2. In about 3 weeks, I'm going on a 10 day cruise. This will be my longest cruise yet.

I consider myself a fairly efficient packer and have done well on my past cruises. This cruise is longer than I'm used to but I have the added benefit of driving to the port so I don't have any content or weight restrictions.

Without luggage restrictions, do you guys pack without restriction or do you still try to conserve space and plan to do laundry.

Speaking of which, how much is laundry on Royal?

I'm excited that I'm just driving to port but I don't want to over do it but I also don't want to be as restrictive as I've been on cruises I've flown to.

    thanks

oops, I was trying to start a new thread but accidently added to a thread. Sorry for the hijack.

  3. Toddler is 12-36 months. Once a child is 3 they are no longer a toddler.

Secondly you say you called to book another cruise in July and was bombed with this info? Why would an agent bring up another cruise you weren't asking about? I've never had this happen in ALL my rccl cruises ever.

Earlier this year I had 2 cruises booked and every time I called to make a payment on one the rep would go over the details of both to make sure everything was correct.

  4. When I had the drinks on us card I tipped a dollar per drink. I also tip a dollar on the free drink at brunch.

When I had the drinks on us card I wasn't sure if the casino also picked up the gratuity and I didn't want to ask so I just added the dollar. If I purchase my drinks I don't add anything above the automatic 15%.

  5. I thought for sure after a 7 page thread I'd have the full story.

Anyway, I fell like on many cruises I've been on I've heard pages for people near sail time that I assumed were people either lost or possibly hadn't made it to the ship.

I wonder if OP's wife would have explained the situation to Guest Services if they could have assisted in letting him know that son was safely on board.

  6. I don't know about the most recent form but in the past, I think these forms are too vague.

If I'm remembering it correctly it may ask if you have had vomiting. Well someone may have vomited but they may know the reason why...maybe sour food, drank too much, new prescription, etc. If I had one of the issues but could pinpoint the source I would lie because I'm not confidant my explanation would be acceptable.

They should ask if any of the symptoms are from a suspected source. I don't think anyone has gotten ebola without knowing they were in contact with an infected person.

  7. From a DOU perspective, I had a DOU card on my last cruise last summer.

I spent much of a day in the casino and 1 particular server brought me 3 drinks on my DOU card. I didn't tip and service was "MEH"... I saw him weaving around the casino servicing the floor and needed a refill and he only occasionally visited me and only brought me perhaps 2 refills, and long after I was looking for him (each time.)

I didn't tip the server only because I had no cash on my person.

I left for the cabin and came back a short time later, this time with cash in my pocket (I felt bad about not tipping the server.) This time I was serviced by a new server and now that I had cash in my pocket, I tipped the (new) server $1 each time he brought me a DOU beverage, starting with the first one he brought. He was proactively bringing me mojitos without even being asked, even before I was empty.

Trust me, a TIP makes all the difference in the world (I've noticed this same behavior even in the past guest party.)

I had a DOU card back in February. I thought the servers were very attentive. I put a dollar tip on each receipt for the free drinks but I noticed others at my table with DOU didn't. I wasn't sure if they'd be tipped or not so I wanted to tip. The receipt they bring you, allows you to tip on the s&s card.

  8. It's so interesting to read how different jobs handle vacation requests.

Surprisingly, I've never had a job that requires coverage if I'm gone.

The way my current job works is sort of a two tiered system. Each February 15th we turn in any vacation requests of 40 hours or more. You can submit more than one but must rank your requests. The requests are put into order by seniority and they start the approval process. Generally 2 people are granted leave for each week. So if an employees #1 ranked vacation is granted, his number 2 won't be granted until everyone has had at least one choice granted.

So say if I have the highest seniority and I request the week of Christmas and the week of Thanksgiving. I'd definitely get Christmas but Thanksgiving would only be granted if no one else requested Thanksgiving.

After the initial February requests, leave requests are granted on first come first serve. Seniority only plays a part if 2 people request the same week at the same exact time.

Another thing I like about our system is that the calendar is a web based program so if I'm thinking of taking some random weekend off I can go look at the calendar and see if anyone has requested or been approved for those days. If there are no requests in then I know I'll get the days. It's great because I can then book flights or whatever without having been officially approved because my job gives at least 2 people off for any given day.

  9. I know this subject has been beat to death but I just wanted to add that the Next Cruise Certificate would be a bigger factor over loyalty rewards.

I check cruise prices daily. I typically sail solo and have seen some really great deals in the last few months. Flight prices haven't been as great but not terribly expensive.

I guarantee had I had a certificate on hand to book and pay for the cruise, I would have done it. Even though I've paid for the certificate, when using it in the present it feels like a discount and helps since I also have to book last minute airfare.

  10. I'm relatively new to cruising, having cruised 3 times, with 4th coming up. I will be gold. What does that mean for me? A pin. I am buying cheers so won't go to the past guest party and the free drink coupon won't do me any good. Not that I got into cruising for a loyalty program. Just wanted a different vacation.

Wouldn't going to the party and using the coupon stretch out your 15 drinks a day?

Not saying that you want more than 15 drinks a day but if you can use the coupon and it not count against you that's doing some good.

  11. Along the same line:

I booked dynamic dining reservations last May for our upcoming maiden voyage on quantum. I recently checked on the bookings as advised by my CC friends and sure enough, several times had been changed by RCI causing some clashes. I called RCI and had to cancel one reservation. I advised the rep that the original credit card that these were booked on no longer exists as the number had recently changed due to expiration of the orginal card and new number being issued. She took the new number and "would put in the request to do this." I took this as it was going to be done. Well, two days later we were studying the reservations further and another restaurant booking was too close to an evening event and we thought it best to cancel another reservation. I called again and was told that it was absolutely impossible to apply a refund to anything but the original credit card. I explained to a supervisor by this point that the card number didn't exist. The supervisor, Daniel, told me that I "merely" had to go into the issuing bank of the credit card and request the monies that were refunded!?? Really?? All I was asking was to apply a refund to a different card number, in the same name as the original credit card. I also told him that I had called just two days prior and the agent was able to do this. He advised me that no, she couldn't do that and in fact she had ONLY REQUESTED from the finance department to do this and these requests are always denied. I explained that this process is ridiculous as many people have credit cards that change numbers due to loss, theft or expiry. Daniel stated he has to deal with several calls a day with this same issue. WHAT A WASTE OF A SUPERVISOR'S TIME. Angry does not begin to describe my thoughts and feelings.

I decided that I am going to cancel the reservations on board where upon, according to RCI'S reliable website, that we will get an onboard credit for the value of the cancellations. I was hoping to cancel these bookings beforehand in order that the times become open for someone else to find useful. Furthermore, I am now going to have to stand in line on board wasting valuable holiday time in order to cancel them.

I really was trying to buy into dynamic dining and begrudgingly arranging my happy go lucky holiday into an adult day care with times set for everything. I have been loyal to RCI for a very long time...next cruise #68, mostly with them...and I really do like RCI and they must be commended for trying to innovate, but asking people to schedule their whole Quantum experience is not what not what I really want from a holiday. But I will try as you never know.

HOWEVER, the process MUST be dynamic for both Royal Caribbean the company, AND the passenger.

    Respectfully submitted.

I was always under the impression that they can do a refund to the old card number and your credit card company will realize that the number changed. Try calling back and canceling without mentioning that you have a new card and see if the cc company applies it correctly.

  12. Exactly! I have the money to pay for it, but I'd rather make small monthly payments.

I bought a new house in Decmeber and purchased hardwood floors with a similar offer only it was 6 months equal payments with 0% interest. I did it through GE Capital. Apparently Synchrony Financial is formerly GE Capital.

It is. I have a Value City furniture card. The offer was 3 years no interest. A month or so ago I logged in to GE Capital to look at my statement and it went to Synchrony Financial.

  13. I work as a law enforcement officer at an international airport and people constantly leave their bags unattended to go eat or go to the bathroom. Not only that, they will also plug their electronics at a charging station and leave.

When confronted they say, "I only went to the bathroom" or "I just went to go eat" or a host of other excuses.

It only takes a second for your stuff to be stolen. People seem to think an airport is this magical safety bubble where crime doesn't happen. Believe me, it does. There are a bunch of things that are turned in by honest people but there are also times when the item is gone forever.

I know this thread started by someone that accidentally left something, but you'd be surprised how many people PURPOSELY leave their items unattended in airports. And yes, there are many cameras in the airport but there can be gaps in the coverage or the camera was turned the wrong way. There are many times that the location we need to view isn't caught on camera.

  14. I called to inquire about this a few months back and was told my price was locked in. I also booked solo and got an exceptional rate.

Even though they told me my rate would remain the same, that was the complete opposite of experiences I read on this board.

I'm doing a back to back and may have someone join me on each leg. I'll update my experience when they finally book.
