  1. I catch an episode here and there of America's Got Talent and noticed there are quite a few of those circus, acrobatic, and other type talents on there.

Do you think it's feasible for Carnival or any cuise line to contract with groups like that to do fly on entertainment for a night or two?

Are consumers interested in stuff like that?

I don't know what the cost would be but it would definitely offer a variety of entertainment across the fleet.

    Any thoughts?

  2. Just wanted to add that basically ALL insurance policies say they will pay after any other valid policies. That's not really a true indication that homeowner's insurance is primary because the homeowners policy will also say they pay after any other valid policies.

There's a method to figuring out which policy is actually primary which I don't know all the ins and outs of but one of the determining factors is the cost of the policy. If that's the sole factor, I would guess the travel insurance would be primary.

Either way, good luck with the claim and let us know how it goes. I'm curious if they'll only cover the computer if it was a carnival worker that damaged it say while delievering luggage or something.

  3. Just wondering if anyone has ever decided they didn't like cruising on a Carnival ship within 24 hours and used their guarantee to get them home early? If so, how did that work?

    Lisa

I remember reading a thread about someone that went to guest services to invoke the guarantee because the air conditioning wasn't working in their room and no one seemed to take the complaint seriously. Once they invoked, they got someone to the room immediately and fixed the room to their satisfaction. So the couple ended up staying.

But if you do choose to exercise the guarantee, I think you have to pay your own way home and Carnival reimburses your expenses. So, if you don't have a passport or the means to make your way home you probably have no choice but to finish out the cruise.

  4. Ok let me say this first! This is only our second cruise, so I am still a newbie.:D Last year the Hubby and I cruised on the Breeze and fell in love so we decided to bring along our children and in laws for our next cruise. This time, we're sailing the Sunshine in exactly 9 days and I'm not familiar with the whole process of dropping off, checking in and off site parking with a group. My husband and father in law are planning to drop us and all bags at the terminal, then going to park the car at an off site parking lot about 5 mintues away from the terminal. My question is, while waiting at the terminal, can we start our check in process and have them added to our party once they arrive; or do we need to wait for them so we can all be in the same boarding zone?

I think it depends. If you printed the one boarding pass that includes everyone on the same sheet of paper, I think you have to wait for them before entering. If you printed individuals, you could go ahead and have them check in on their own. I don't know if you'll run into a bit of difficulty if you all planned on using the same credit card for s&s.

As far as boarding zones, if you did checkin separately and got a significantly lower boarding number, theres really nothing stopping the men from just leaving their zone number on a chair and entering with you anyway.

I'd probably just wait for them return and just all go through together. Especially if you are carrying your allotted wine or soda. You don't want it to appear you are taking more than allowed because you have it all and your hubby is no where to be found.

  5. Your low prices options are getting better out of IAD and DCA. Frontier is now flying out of IAD with a direct flight to FLL and they have some extremely low prices. Southwest is about to increase their DCA departures to 40something flights a day. I've noticed flights have decreased tremendously since Frontier came. Hopefully they are successful and stay at IAD.

  6. This was a gift certificate that I received as, go figure, a gift. I applied it to my January cruise as an on board credit.

I then had to cancel the cruise, for reasons I've explained.

They would neither refund the gift certificate, nor move the value to my August cruise.

    Sorry for your loss.

Not to seem dense, but did they say if you'd be able to move the credit to a cruise further out but not the August cruise because it's so close? So basically, will they let you use the gift certificate on a cruise maybe next summer?

  7. I know this completely anecdotal but I choose not to use a PVP Firstly because the guy who calls me weekly is extremely obnoxious and secondly because a friend of mine on a different cruiseline used one of theirs and while they were on the cruise the PVPs brother broke into their home. Found out after that it had happened to about 5 other people all who had booked with this one particular person. You gotta think you're giving someone youre address and also letting them know you're going to be gone for an entire week and you really dont know them regardless of how nice they seem over the phone. I know this is an isolated story but its reason enough for me to not use one

Somewhat off topic, but I heard on the news of a similiar incident but it involved a bank employee. A customer went to withdraw money and chatted with the teller that they were going on vacation. The teller has a relative or aquaitance break into the home.

Definitly have to be careful with who knows you are going out of town.

  8. I guess that if we decide on Carnival selecting the room. That we should not go this route?

From what you have said it sounds like the best way to confirm all will be ok is to just wait on their decision and book 4 at once. I think that's a better option as this way we can book 2 rooms.

Thank you for the info! I appreciate it a lot. It's all you fine people that make a newbie cruiser feel more comfortable and informed:)

If you are going to do a GTY room I'd definitely make sure it'll be 4 before booking. I thought I read they didn't allow GTY for 4 but I'm not positive.

  9. Technically, yes you can add a person later but there are circumstances where it wouldn't be allowed.

You'd have to be sure you were in a 4 person room already or that a 4 person room is still available.

Also, even if you are in a 4 person room they ship could still be at or near capacity so it wouldn't be allowed.

These issues have a higher potential of coming into play since you say it's a cruise in Sept. I'd call right away if you want to add a 4th person for the greatest chance of success.

  10. I am sailing on Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas out of San Juan in January. I was able to get pretty good prices first thing this morning. But by 10:00am, our nonstop flight out had doubled in price!

Glad I was vigilant about it, and hope others are as fortunate!

    A~

I've been waiting to check Southwest but Delta is still coming out cheaper so no free checked bag for me.

  11. I agree, being social certainly helps and so does putting in the time at the tables. I am not a big time gambler and generally play minimum bets, but i do usually play three or four hours a day/night. I also never play the slot machines. On my last 7 day cruise we received chocolate covered strawberries in our room on day three, a bottle of champagne at dinner on day four and comped drinks on day 5, all courtesy of the casino.

I recommend introducing yourself to the casino host, tipping the dealers well when you are winning and putting in the time on the tables. I gamble to have fun, getting something extra is just frosting on the cake.

This was my experience on my last cruise. I don't bet much more than the minimum but I'm very social. I got my drink cruise on the 2 full day of a 6 day cruise. they also sent cookies to my cabin.

  12. I've mainly sailed on Carnival but their layouts are essentially the same also.

I like it because on each subsequent cruise, I knew exactly where everything was. On my first cruise I was lost and confused the whole time.

Another reason they keep it the same, I believe, is so that the crew members and be swapped in and out for contracts and can hit the ground running without having to do a bunch of familiarity training. That becomes important if there's an emergency on their first cruise of a new contract.

  13. So, did you do it??

Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

No, sadly, I didn't do it. I actually entered all my credit card information but I just had a nagging feeling I just couldn't shake so I decided against it. It wasn't so much hurricane season that was bothering me but more so the savings goals I set for myself that would make it harder to achieve taking a cruise right now....even one as cheap as this one.

I said to myself though, if the price pops up again I'll take it as a sign that it's meant for me to go.:p

  14. We always cruise hurricane season and we have never missed a port. We are cruising September 20th this time. The ship can always navigate around a storm.

A few years ago, we cruised the week of Sept 18 I belive. Weather was perfect. There were storms the week before our cruise and the week after but our week was perfect. The crew kept telling us how lucky we were.:p

  15. So what I'm hearing is GO FOR IT!!!!!

I want to go just for the price alone, plus all the port would be new to me although I also have a cruise booked for February where I was going to hit 3 or the 4 ports then so this cruise will be like a preview cruise...lol.

I think I'm gonna do it. I went to check out the roll call and it's pretty quiet over there.

  16. I routinely search for cruise with low or no single supplement just to see what's out there.

Yesterday a 7 day on the Conquest popped up for $279 leaving on Sept 28!!!! With taxes and fees the total would be $416! That's a 7 day as a solo. That deal seems to good to pass up.

I put it on 24 hour hold but haven't been able to to duplicate that price with subsequent mock bookings. What I have found though is that a few of the 7 days leaving that last week in September are deeply discounted compared to the weeks immediately before and after.

I'm wondering if that's considered to be height of hurrican season or what? Any ideas?

I have about 8 hours left to decide if I want to take the Conquest. I really want to go for it but now I'm a bit nervous about hurrican season.

    Any thoughts or opinions?

  17. I'll be purchasing insurance for the first time for my upcoming trip. I thought it'd be a straight forward process but it has me a bit confused.

    My main issues are:

I'm doing a b2b. So do I have to buy 2 separate policies for each cruise or can I put in by departure and return dates to cover both cruises?

I more concerned about the medical and evacuation coverage but with visiting 10 islands in 14 days does that get complicated when purchasing insurance?

I'm going to call in but was hoping to get some real life experiences from those who have purchased insurance for a b2b.

Oh also, when it asks for trip total they are also asking for flight and hotels too right? not just the cost of the cruise?

    Thanks.
