Hello, My hubby really likes Pepsi with his meals. Carnival only sells coke. Can he bring a can of Pepsi into the dining room to drink with his meal or would that look tacky and frowned upon? Don't want to look rude but he would prefer Pepsi instead of buying a coke.

I took a tumbler full of wine to share with my cousins/parents.  Waitstaff didn't blink an eye.  My cousin said I was tacky/ghetto, but she drank it!  LOL.

im still laffing at the thought of someone not wanting an egg on it, although i guess some people dont do eggs and it would taste good without but i tihnk it should have a different name if there is no "heuvos" involved.

my daughter is laffing on the phone that the first person to respond was from canada and even there knew it came with an egg.

atleast this should be a flameless thread and give everyone a good laugh:) thanks for all the responses so far.

And here's me, being the odd ball out... I order mine without the eggs on it.  Simply because the first time I tried it (and I was soooo excited to try it) the eggs were over easy... Something I totally did not expect and it ruined the dish for me (I had to send it back un-eaten).  The second time, I thought I was smart and ordered it with an egg fried hard....  nope, still had a runny yolk.  My parents taught me to never give up, so the third time, I ordered it with the egg fried hard ON THE SIDE, no egg on my rancheros, please.   And OMG... perfection!  Third times the charm.  I eat it like that every since, 🙂

The Hub app is great. Ask for your table anywhere on the ship, get a notice that your table is ready before you get to the dining room door.

This exactly!  On my last cruise in May, I tried My Time Dining for the first time.  I had my reservations because I was used to having the set Late Dining.  On Formal night, I heard it was best to use the Hub App so I did.  I requested a table while we on the Lido deck and headed to the dining room, by the time we got out of the elevators on the third floor, I received an alert that our table was ready.   Other than that, there was never a wait when we arrived to the doors of the dining room, even for the specific section I requested.  I didn't even have to use the Hub App for those nights.

  4. I like YTD. we usually get there when the dining room first opens and there’s no wait. Or we will get there about an hour before closing and there’s no wait.

Thank you for the tips. Will mention this to my parents.

We had YTD a couple of cruises thinking the freedom to choose would be convenient. We ended up spending time each afternoon to decide what to do, and all but one evening out of 14, we were waiting in line for the doors to open.

The one time we went later we had to wait about 45 minutes for a table,

Switched to early dining for the next two cruises and love it. I won't go back to YTD.

    Different strokes, etc.

I hope you enjoy your cruise.

That's how I feel about late (I LOVE IT), then again, I haven't tried anything else. I'm willing to be flexible for my parents though, because I finally am getting them to go with me. Perhaps once they see the ebb and flow of the day, the next cruise I can talk them into late dining.

  5. It sounds like you are a late diner. Are you alone or a couple??

Do your parents eat as late as you do?

Is that timing an issue for you?

We will never do traditional dining again!

We are a senior couple and prefer eating together unless we meet folks on the cruise with whom we'd like to dine.

Your parents may prefer eating with folks (like you) that they know.

We don't think the "dining experience" is any less without traditional set dining times. We always find a wait staff the we like and then ask for them each evening. By the end of the cruise they are often saving "our table" for us. I don't think you will have any problems unless your parents want to eat early and you want to eat later!

It will just be my parents and me! I'm so excited to get them all to myself since my brothers were born when I was six! :') Whenever they are ready for dinner, I will be going with them, so I know I can adjust accordingly, I just am worried about them missing out on what I experienced my first cruise, so thank you for your assertion that you don't think the dining experience is any less.

  6. YTD is great for the reasons why your dad wants it. But it can backfire on him. Depending on the ship, itin and other pax you might have to wait. We’ve had anywhere between no wait to over an hour. Formal nights and 7pm have always been issues. A willingness to share a table might get you seated quicker at those busy times.

If you decide to do assigned dining, speak with the MD. If there’s space available you’ll be changed.

Thanks for the advice. I like having my table ready for me at 8:15. It makes it easier to plan shows/activities and my lunch(es) ;) for an 8:15 dining. Thank you for the tip on being willing to share a table. I guess if we are hungry enough, we will do so to avoid a wait.

Disclaimer: I’m going to play devil’s advocate here.

When I first started cruising, I thought it was the end of the world that we had late dining. We ate early every night, and that was what I was hoping for on board. Once we had late seating, I learned to really enjoy it and was a tough sell on YTD when we made the change. Now, I’m not sure I would go back if I had the option. While I had grown to love late dining, it was nice to have flexibility around the entertainment schedule. Additionally, you can still eat around that late seating hour. You could even request the same serving team every night if you find that you love the team you have that first night. Essentially you can still have the late dining experience that you prefer. Heck, maybe you can start a little earlier and work your way back every night to show your parents how great late dining is!

Thank you. When I first started cruising, early or late was the only option. I chose late due to the advice of others so we wouldn't have to rush back from port for dinner. I loooooved it and have stuck with it for all 5 cruises. Now my parents are going and I want to do what they would like, which is the freedom to choose.... Perhaps in the future I can convince them from late dining. My daddy thinks that's too late to eat, but I don't think he fully realizes all the things going on to make that dining time necessary. I'm so excited to finally introduce them to the only thing I love as much as I love them! LOL!

  7. I know the YTD vs. early/late dining has been had a million times, but I want to ask a specific question to those who have done YTD.

I am taking my parents on their first cruise. I selected YTD because my daddy is not sure if he would like having to go at the same time every night (i.e be hungry earlier than dining time or not hungry yet at dining time.) I have always done late dining and love it. I'm worried that they will miss out on the traditional cruise dining experience doing YTD the first time.

Has anyone ever tried YTD first and then gone back to early/late dining on a later cruise? I'm hoping my parents enjoy cruising enough to want to go again and I hope next time to be able to talk them into set dining times once they really understand how cruises operate.

I guess I am just second guessing our choice of YTD because I'm used to only having late. If you tried YTD but prefer early/late, please share why.

    Thank you!

  8. Brand new cruiser to Carnival.

Bought 4 cards actual gift cards via AARP & 4 e-cards via some other on-line offer - can't remember details right now, but it was recommended on this site and lots of people bough them. .

So am I supposed to add these to my S&S acct prior to my trip? Not sure how this works.

Cruise is already PIF but will use the cards for gratuities, drinks, etc.

Would prefer to avoid going to GS, if at all possible, but want to make sure I do this correctly & w/ least amt of hassle.

    TIA

    TIA

This isn't something Carnival has offered long, and I know it's non-refundable, so keep that in mind. You can use the gift cards now to purchase Cruise cash. The cruise cash is applied to your s&s balance before you board. Otherwise, you would have to take the gift cards with you and apply them in person at check in, on board at the kiosks, or at guest services.

  9. I'll ask this question here because in the bigger AARP thread, some are getting all bent out of shape because newcomers to the thread aren't reading through the 100+ pages to find the answer to a question that was already answered. No, I'm not being lazy, I've read through plenty of long threads before to learn about different things, but it's silly to go digging through over 100 pages for an answer that can be given again quickly by someone who doesn't mind helping.

With that said, I've read that you don't have to be a member of AARP in order to use the site to get the Carnival gift cards and that all you need to do is register to the site. It's to my understanding that you have to earn points in order to get the 10% discount on the cards, correct? If so, is it possible to earn these points without actually being a member of AARP? Thank you.

Yes, sign up for the Aarp rewards for good site. I don't remember how many points they give you just for that, but you can take quizzes to earn more points. You need 1,000 for a $100 card and I think 5,000 for a $500. You also get points for signing in daily.

  10. Are you all in the same room? Because FTTF covers all guests in same room. So whatever time they show they will go in the FTTF separate line and pretty much get helped right away, then get right on the ship...

Yes we are all in the same stateroom. Thank you. I'm hoping we can board all together, but if not I will pass this information to her.

  11. I attempted to do a forum search with no such luck. I know we can only select one check in time per Stateroom. I also know Carnival's FAQs say to pick a time that we can all arrive together. However, one of my travel companions may not be flying into New Orleans the day before the cruise. As a result, I'm not sure if her arrival into the city will be early enough for the check in time i selected. I also have FTTF so I and my 2nd travel companion plan to be able to check in as early as possible and board as soon as they call FTTF. My question is this: will Carnival ALLOW only two of us to check in at a time with the third person coming to check in when she arrives? I'd prefer to hear from people who have experienced this since staggered check-in was implemented as I already know what Carnival prefers we do. TIA

  12. Im doing a full review When I get back but thought I would just at least Q&A on the ships wifi.

Overall it's been a great experience with little or no negatives. Like I said I will do a full recap with pics and video as soon as I get back home on Saturday or Sunday.

I have until June to go, but can't wait to read your review!

  13. We just got back from the Regal ,what an awesome ship!!

As others have said the warm chocolate melting cake with a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream is life changing lol

Another suggestion to research is faster to the fun also know on here as FTTF.If I wasn't platinum I would be getting it

The two lines are different but not so much except Carnival is a bit less formal in my opinion

  14. Well I bought a ton before our pride cruise this past January but now I can't find them so I guess they stopped it

Not to go off on a tangent, but I was totally disappointed amazon stopped selling them. I was able to get them using some rewards points/credits I had from Amazon. I near about cried when I saw they stopped selling them. I saved over a hundred bucks on my last cruise using those reward points/credits!

  15. If I have a bunch of cash left at the end of the cruise can I tip in cash or does it have to be charged to my stateroom account? I know I could go to guest services and give them cash' date=' but let's say I don't feel like waiting in line to do that, can I tip cash? Or do I have to ask for tips removed because I'm tipping cash? I am in Canada so it's a good way for me to get rid of us cash at the end.

I'm not totally sure about this, but I think you would have to go stand in line at GS to remove the auto tips anyway.
