  1. Just got off Fascination today. 3rd Carnival cruise. Sorry to say I was disappointed. If you wanna know anything ask away. We were the 1st ones to sail since dry dock. Men can wear shorts in main on cruise casual nights which is every night but formal.

Anything interesting /new with the dry dock. .. I heard it was just routine maintenance but just wondering... also... what were you disappointed with? Thanks!

  2. We were not in a hurry to get off the ship today, as we had not planned any excursions. We have been to Nassau and Paradise Island dozens of times on cruise and land vacations, so sometimes we don’t even get off the ship any more. Patti and I decided that we would just take a water taxi (ferry), over to Paradise Island, and just walk around the Atlantis Marina area. Ryan just wanted to do a little shopping on Bay Street, then get back on the ship. We left the ship together a little after 10am…..

Is there a long wait to get off of the fascination here? We are on in May and I am debating doing a private excursion with blue lagoon... just a bit nervous about congestion and being able to get off the ship for 9ish.

  3. Roatan:

We had reserved a private tour with Rony’s Tours, a small family run business. Again, I had heavily researched Rony’s Tours on both Cruise Critic and TripAdvisor prior to booking. They had really good reviews, and I was especially interested in a private tour so that we could visit the Greenfield Children’s Home in Sandy Bay in Roatan. The cost for the tour was only $100 total for the 4 of us (did not include entry fees or meals). We had our instructions to meet the tour guide outside of the port area. We got off the ship as soon as they released the guests and quickly proceeded on our 15 minute trek to the tour guide. The trek had a significant hill and stairs and may difficult for some, however; we were told that taxi’s were available to escort those who needed it.

We were among the first cruise passengers to arrive at the tour area, and our guide was surprised to see us so soon. He said he has to sometimes wait up to 2 hours for his guests to arrive. Not with us, I want to maximize my time on this beautiful little island. I can lolly gag on the ship that evening. Our tour guide was Arnold, Rony’s nephew. He was great: nice, polite, and very informative. He works as an accountant on the weekends and a tour guide during the week. The tour vehicle was a newer model minivan, and the AC worked great (If you have ever been on a tour in the Caribbean and the AC not work well, you know why I specifically mentioned this).

Our first stop, the orphanage: Greenfield Children’s Home. We had contacted the facility prior to the cruise to make sure we could stop by. The Home is actually funded by Sandy Bay Lighthouse Ministries run out of North Carolina. They provide donations, set up child sponsorships, and organize working mission trips. As I had stated earlier my daughter had collected homemade friendship bracelets and necklaces from both her Girl Scout Troop and the CC/FB cruise group. She also had monetary donations to give to the school.

We arrived at the Home and were immediately greated by the most adorable little girl, Sindy. She stayed by my side most of the visit.

We all sat down and watched a 10-minute video of the home detailing it's accomplishments and mission. Then we interacted with the children and my daughter handed out the goodies. The kids were so excited and so friendly.

I think it is awesome that you have raised your daughter to where she thinks of others even heading out on vacation! Kudos to her!

  4. Thanks! I will be on the fascination for the first time in May... going to HMC and Nassau for the first time as well. I'm sooooo excited!!!

  7. We did the Balmoral Island Private Island beach day with stingrays....a friend did the dolphins at the same place. It is actually really lovely there, although I don't like the whole dolphins in captivity thing. it was the best part of our cruise . There is promo pricing right now for it, we got the stingray encounter for $49 which included the beach day, and my six year old son was free with a paying adult.

Did you see any parasailing there? If so, how recent?

Carnival has the private beach day and dolphin swim on Balmoral island not sure if they do parasailing there or not

  8. Only other place to do dolphins is Blue Lagoon Island (dolphinencounters dot com). The ferry picks you up at the base of the toll bridges to Paradise Island (not far from the cruise ship dock area) and takes about 20 minutes to get there. It's pretty. You can do just dolphins or pick a beach day. Shuttle/ferry back runs on a schedule.

If you want a beach & parasailing, Cable beach is close and will have various water sports. Parts are public.

Thank you so much for your response. Will see what the group wants to do. :)

  9. Is there any place besides Atlantis that offers parasailing and dolphin encounters/swims in the same area? I won't be in Nassau very long (we dock from 8-5). I doubt we have time to do both but I would like to go to a location that has both options. Thanks in advance!!

  10. My first cruise was on the Fantasy in 2010. Although it was a very late start leaving out of Mobile, and very rough seas the first day, those next three days hooked me! Addict is not a strong enough word!! I'm sure the ship has had upgrades since then but I loved all the activities they offered.

  11. On our last cruise we brought a package of waffle cones to enjoy the soft serve. We could hardly walk two steps away without people stopping to ask where we got the cone. ;)

Even had one guy offer to buy one from me!
