I don't know the answer to "reasonable amount" -- certainly a bottle per day of cruise must be OK?

    As far as port stops:

"Wine purchased during company-sponsored shore excursions that visit local wineries are exempt from the on-board corkage fee (offer limited to one bottle of wine per person)."

"You agree to surrender alcoholic beverages that are purchased duty free from the ship's gift shop, or at ports of call, to Holland America Line, which will be delivered to your stateroom just prior to disembarking the voyage."

So no, unless bought on a ship's tour, then one per person.

ETA: this policy was effective June 1st, 2021, so people's experience pre-lock-down may not be valid.

Thanks - I did read that.  It does actually say "duty free".  I wouldn't be buying duty free.  Maybe I will buy a bottle in the first Port and see what happens.

I've brought as many as 12 bottles on board at embarkation. No problems though the "wine desk person" usually seems to think it is odd.

I have bought bottles in port and brought them on as well.

    Thank you.

  3. Does anyone have an idea of what "reasonable amount" means in respect to bringing wine on board.  We are quite happy to pay the corkage and bring our own wine on board (actually prefer it) but not sure just what their idea of "reasonable amount" is.

Also does HAL allow you to bring a bottle of wine on at each or any Port - corkage to be paid?  Or are you only permitted to bring it on at the embarkation port.

How do you give proof of the negative test to the cruise line? How do they know when it was taken?  Needs to be 48  hours prior to boarding.  I board the Noordam in Sydney in Nov.

    Honour system.

For Australia it says that a "medically observed or self-administered antigen test within 24 hours" is required.  What do they mean by a self- administered antigen test? Apparently not medically observed as it does say "or."  So can we use one of the free at home tests?  And how do we prove this?

You don't have to be supervised.  Bring a RATS from home and test yourself.

  6. We arrive in Vancouver on the 30th September from Australia, via Auckland.  We have to put the Arrive Canada App on our phone and load our proof of vaccination certificates onto the App.  There is no need to produce a negative Covid test.

We are actually boarding Quantum on the 3rd of October and we are required to have a supervised RATS test so we have booked one through https://fast-test.ca/  We have booked to have it at the Pan-Pacific as that is where we will be staying but I believe there is also a facility at the Fairmont.

I believe this is a Canadian requirement not a cruise ship requirement as friends who are joining us on the Honolulu to Brisbane cruise can self-test in Hawaii.

There may be a USD15 corkage charge if you take your bottle to the table. I say "may' as I have found the wait staff inconsistent in applying the fee. Last time on Ovation some did, some didn't. On Radiance I've never been charged but that may have changed as its been 2 or 3 years since I was last on her. Or, fill your glass in your cabin and take it with you but this may not be suitable for MDR unless you're happy with just one glass.

We have never been charged corkage for any wine we bring on board and I was told some time ago that they weren't charging it.

Generally, white wine by the glass is pretty average and IMO there is no good red wine by the glass.  We buy the Ultimate Dining Package and get the 40% off a bottle of wine.  If you buy the 3 Nights Dining Package, they are fine if you buy 2 bottles at a time when in the Specialty Restaurants on Radiance - drink one and take the other to your cabin.

    Enjoy the Radiance!

  8. We will be on our first HAL cruise on the 14th for 14 nights I have just purchased the unlimited laundry package - $US98 for wash and fold but I paid an extra US$56 for pressing.  I will still do my own 'handwashing'.  I wish Royal Caribbean would introduce this system.  We spend a fortune on laundry, even with complimentary wash and fold bags.

  9. I still compare the US TA to the local TAs and direct and just go with the best deal. Noting that you need to research to make it comparable (i.e include all costs, fee, taxes and currency conversions- even with a possible increase included) so that it is the total package and then can be compared as like for like.

I do the same but if you are cruising on Royal the US deals has a few bonus conditions - price drops being honoured is the big one. Also we don't eat in the MDR and if I book through the US I can adjust the tips, if I book through Australia I cannot.

I will be interested to hear how you go on Carnival.

  10. We just had a suite on the new Carnival Horizon for the Transatlantic. The perks lacked somewhat compared to what we get on RCCL but their suites are a lot cheaper so we didn't mind. We had no need for tendering but we did get on board very quickly and our luggage was delivered in what we considered record time.

  11. When Royal changed their system, pretty much everyone's status, past cruises, booked cruises, etc disappeared. It was very frustrating. Their system was bad then and even worse now (if that's possible).

They have pretty much sorted it out now but your TA should be well aware of the problems that were experienced and had it fixed for you without causing you any grief.

    Enjoy the Ovation!

  12. We have cruised both Celebrity Solstice in a full suite and the full suite - big aft-facing on the Ruby Princess around Alaska which was great. Our son had a mini-suite which was fine. I wouldn't really bother with Princess full suites anymore as I think the Club Minis are excellent value. The suite and balcony were huge on the Ruby but the Celebrity full suite (Aqua Class is not a 'full suite') gives much better perks than Princess. On Princess you get the miniature spirits one-off bar set up and your washing done with compliments which is a nice perk however on Celebrity, you get a Butler, Michael's Club Lounge, drinks package, own restaurant as well.

  13. Put all the Ds, D+ and Ps in the Diamond Lounge on Radiance in Alaska and still find plenty of seats any time of the evening. ;)

Once again I ask: How many Alaska cruises have you been on, and what were those upper tier numbers you experienced?

What part of my reply dont you understand? It is not about the numbers in Alaska. It is about starting it there while the numbers are minimal😬

  14. On my last Alaska B2B cruise, we were #2 cruiser with just over 350 points on the return leg. We were tied for second place with another couple. Just one Pinnacle on board was number one. The DL was so empty that we used the CL just to be able to talk to other people on board. On the leg from Seward, we just missed being number three by a few points. Three couples with over 400 points, but no Pinnacles.

A few years before that we were #3 with just over 200 points.

How many time have you done the Radiance Alaska one way trips from Seward to Vancouver and back? :confused:What were your upper tier numbers on those cruises?

It isn't about the numbers in Alaska. They felt it was better to implement it in Alaska so that by the time it did the Vancouver to Honolulu and then Honolulu to Sydney cruises which always attracts many Diamond, Diamond Plus and Pinnacles (more D and D+) it will not come as a shock to them that the tiny Diamond Lounge is all they will have.

    Cheers
